And now Eleonor brings one more element to the knowledge base at the company. Conveys a sense of intellectual seriousness to their franchise beyond the sales end of things.
what a great discussion! I know I don't appreciate gem set watches as much as they'd deserve and this for sure brought me closer, thank you also for introducing important overlooked names in the specialty

Love this kind of show with amazing knowledge, sharing. Thanks Elanor & Jack. Refer to FP Journe, Elegante Gino’s Dream; what kind of setting do they use? Is it a combination of channel and prong given that there are pins that grip ceramic glass on the case?
That's exactly it. You have a channel set where you see the stones being cut out precisely to fit the turtle shape on top of which you can barely see - but there are there - prongs towards the outside edges.
Thank you for the video. What a great discussion. Have always admired pieces created by brands like Van Cleef & Arpels even though us guys don't wear them, but gaining more knowledge enhances the overall appreciation for their craftsmanship 👌🏻

Nice discussion. Just a suggestion for slight correction. Both sapphire and ruby are corundum. Corundum naturally occurs in every color of the rainbow. Red corundum is called ruby.
Yup - the reason there's no red sapphire is simply semantics. If the corundum is red it is called a ruby. If the corundum is any other color it's called a sapphire.
That was a very interesting conversation. I still think that diamonds are best suited to ladies watches rather than mens watches, but I’m old fashioned and very conservative. To me, mens watches with a display of diamonds tend to look tacky and a vulgar display of wealth. Great video by the way.
All other things being equal (carat weight, cut, and setting, as well as size and case material) I think a rainbow gradient is always going to be more expensive because matching colors means that there are far fewer candidate stones for cutting and setting than if you used diamonds. The limiting factor across the industry is finding the correct stones from suppliers and with rainbow gradient settings becoming more and more popular, I understand from folks in the business that it's taking longer and longer to fill orders.
Watches are jewelry. Mechanical jewelry but the raison d'etre of watches in the modern day is decorative. Except smart watches but even they need to appeal visually to their market.

Don’t blame us…rappers and trashy urban subculture ruined paved watches. The reality is as soon as I see a watch with diamonds, all I think of is gold teeth.
These 1916 bros need to do a class on selling in the UA-cam age. They are masters. Only black rappers can pull off this look but this WASP chick and Jack have almost sold me (a 50ish white banker dude) on this shlock look.
So great to see Eleonor shine. Loved the conversation. I learned so much.

I will never wear a gem set watch, but I appreciate the artistry. For example the dial of the 16758SARU GMT II is breathtaking. Its art!
That’s what I thought as well but I just picked up one up recently and it definitely zazzes the collection up.
I wouldn’t mind a Patek 5396G-017.

Great hire. You finally have someone that can pronounce any French term or name perfectly.
Idk about that 😂

With the same watch- which would be more expensive a rainbow one or a diamond ones?

Interesting they didn’t mention TAG Heuer's Diamant d'Avant-Garde lab grow diamonds for colored stones, along with Journe’s ceramic glass.
They did mention Journe’s ceramic glass @37:45
Rest assured ... we will dedicate a video on Lab Grown diamonds ... ! 😉
