@Joat oat Well here is a sampling of what Johnson & Johnson did in the past:) Bribery: In 2011, the company was brought litigation brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for giving bribes and kickbacks to doctors in Romania, Poland, and Greece to obtain business selling medical devices and drugs in said countries. Not only that, but they were also charged for bribing officials in Iraq to win contracts under the Oil for Food program. Fraud: In May 2017, the company agreed to pay $33 million to several states in order to settle customer fraud allegations in some of the company’s over-the-counter drugs. Misleading Marketing: Juries across several U.S. states have found the company to have concealed the adverse effects of the medication Risperdal, produced by its unit, in order to market it to patients and doctors better that cheaper generics, and of falsely promoting it as a treat for patients with dementia. Various states have been awarded damages, the most notable being Arkansas, which recieved $1.2 billion. The things I just listed are just the tip of the iceberg of bad things the company has done. Don’t get me wrong, Johnson & Johnson have done some pretty good things as well, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t ignore the bad that they’ve done. Besides, Company Man already done a video on Chiquita’s Controversial History, so him doing a video on Johnson & Johnson’s Controversial History wouldn’t be too controversial.
Great company! I used to work for them in finance. Their credo stands as a best in class that serves as a model for other companies to follow. Very ethical company and one that is very generous with donation of money and supplies to many groups. Often in places where there was a natural disaster they will ship in free medical supplies. You provided an excellent overview of J&J. There are many more facts about them you could have included if you had the time. They are a unique company not fully appreciated by the average person.

I've been watching Hyram's skin care brand reviews today and watched videos on aveeno, clean and clear, and neutrogena. Learning that they are all under the same parent company really put some things into perspective and leads me to wonder if there's anything sold at my local drugstore that isn't owned by them.... and did the quality of those brands decline before or after they were absorbed by j&j.

First, I'd like to say that your voice is mellifluous, and I enjoy your videos. Second, their brand marketing is one of the best out there. Thinking of their brand evokes pleasant, warm feelings and a sense of trust, probably harkening back to when I was a child with a cut that was soothed and healed by their products. Thinking of the brand also brings to mind the scent of their products. So while their consumer goods make up a small percentage of their portfolio, there's something to be said of the overall effect those product had on their brand, as most people alive today grew up using their products.

It would have taken GE 3-5 years to catch up with the advancements that Technicare had already achieved up to that point in time. Great video, really interesting.
As ever a polished and very interesting video. You might not know it but Band-Aid is not that well known in Europe but it's equivalent is and has become a brand that is generic for plasters... I love listening to this, this evening Johnson & Johnson helped me so much in my life, Jamie Johnson made two wonderful documentaries Born Rich, and The One Percent, that really helped me mentally.
I own 2 shares of JNJ they are one of my favorite dividend payers. I didn't know they bought Pfizers consumer brands segment that is awesome. Was thinking about buying Pfizer but I own some of its bigger brands already. Funny how that works sometimes. JNJ is awesome I'm a proud shareholder.
I find it crazy how one Johnson brother listened to a lecture by Lister and began a company to gain a stake in the emerging market of antiseptics just to have that company many years later buy the brand which bears Lister's name, Listerine.
Johnson and Johnson: Our baby powder is safe and is not giving women ovular cancer Johnson and Johnson: Also we're just gonna stop selling baby powder in north america. No reason.
Passing through New Brunswick NJ many times, i never knew J&J had a headquarters there, and that explains RWJ Hospital (named after Robert Wood Johnson)
I worked Customer Service for Pfizer when the sale was made to J&J. I was kind of offended at the time that the company was being bought out by the Band-Aid and baby powder people, like somehow they weren't worthy of buying such a prestigious company. Once the sale went through and we started handling more of J&J's products (only half of us were fired, lol, I made the cut!), I began to realize just how big they actually were. Thanks for telling us what you had to say about it!
you should do a video on newell brands they own a lot of everyday brands that you wouldn't think are owned by the same company and they have fallen on hard times in more recent years due to an expensive merger.
I didn't realize they were so big in the medical Industry, I always just thought of them as the company behind all the household staple brands we use every day, kinda like Nestle
A family company that knowingly put carcinogens in it's baby powder for decades and is now trying to make a vaccine for corona. Yeah fam, I ain't taking a single fucking vaccine from them.
I worked off & on for a warehouse that only dealt with Johnson & Johnson brands and my mind was blown🤯They literally have their hands in every industry
CM: "...[T]here are actually three Johnson brothers that are significant here..." (flashes Johnson & Johnson & Johnson logo) Me: "This is getting out of hand!"
I always knew they were huge but had no idea how. That makes total sense they really hit the mark with that initial push of single use medical equipment
I like this "Bigger than you Know" series when the companies are actually surprisingly huge. I know it's hard to find brands that are unkown/only associated with a few products that are colossal but it's unsatisfying when the company isn't really that large. Kudos to you anyway.
I think it's important to note that the controversial baby powder was only the one produced from Talcum. The vast, vast majority of the baby powder Johnson and Johnson sells is made from corn starch. Most every baby powder in the stores are starch based. You'd have to look hard for talcum based powders. The corn starch versions are a delightful, effective, safe, (if highly flammable) option.
So, basically Johnson & Johnson is the Disney of the Pharmaceutical industry.

Johnson & Johnson ? I believe you mean Jo&Jo's Medicinal Adventures
is that a jojo reference
yessssssssssssss
Holy shit.
Oh NOOOOO!
Great video as usual keep up the great work Mike
Johnson & Johnson is one of my biggest stock holdings.
As ever a polished and very interesting video. You might not know it but Band-Aid is not that well known in Europe but it's equivalent is and has become a brand that is generic for plasters... 'Elastoplast'. That brand has become the default name for a sticking plaster in the UK and beyond. Thanks for the great video about this company... keep up the good work.
If you want to be rich, buy Johnson & Johnson stocks and enjoy the dividends.
I would say buy stocks into the weed market. It’s inevitably going to be legal everywhere and already is a big business so when it does nationwide those stocks are going to rise quickly
Only 2.72% dividend yield that's not so much
@@JaKingScomez prob, not everywhere, count out muslim countries
@@JaKingScomez so half of africa, most of middle east, some of asia, etc
AY TJ well of course I’m primarily talking about the US market. It’s already a high business in non American countries like Belgium. The USA can make it into a multi billion market
I always enjoy your videos.
All these buying of businesses sounds like a monopoly.
I doubt anything will happen, unless Johnson & Johnson tried to merge with Pfizer (or something like that).
after all the commercials I heard growing up of "Johnson & Johnson... a family company," I just assumed they owned the entire pharmacy section
I really thought everyone knew J&J was huge, I hear about it all of the time
Listening
Comeback up
Yup
I love listening to this, this evening Johnson & Johnson helped me so much in my life, Jamie Johnson made two wonderful documentaries Born Rich, and The One Percent, that really helped me mentally.
I own 2 shares of JNJ they are one of my favorite dividend payers. I didn't know they bought Pfizers consumer brands segment that is awesome. Was thinking about buying Pfizer but I own some of its bigger brands already. Funny how that works sometimes. JNJ is awesome I'm a proud shareholder.
While working at a pharmaceutical company I thought the acquisitions there were massive, but J&J acquisitions budget is astronomical.
Not the same as SC Johnson!
"A family company." 👍
They own it! Lol
@@paisan8766 J+J bought assets from SCJ. J+J is publicly traded. SCJ is privately held. Not even the same Johnson families.
Master Malcolm Video Jungle Yep. Also they don’t make any pharmaceutical brands.
@@chrissanchez4735 Right, SCJ is a chemical company
One incredible investment.. I made hundreds of dollars in dividends thanks to JNJ!
I'd love to see a vid on Mondelez!
Me too! They bought Cadbury and Daim as well.
I find it crazy how one Johnson brother listened to a lecture by Lister and began a company to gain a stake in the emerging market of antiseptics just to have that company many years later buy the brand which bears Lister's name, Listerine.
Johnson and Johnson: Our baby powder is safe and is not giving women ovular cancer
Johnson and Johnson: Also we're just gonna stop selling baby powder in north america. No reason.
ThatguyfromAK Reason was the backlash - if it was proven to be harmful they would have pulled it from all markets!
I think it's only the talc version they aren't going to sell. The other type uses corn starch.
kam2244 X corn starch is actually pretty safe though.
Passing through New Brunswick NJ many times, i never knew J&J had a headquarters there, and that explains RWJ Hospital (named after Robert Wood Johnson)
Wait, so they don't just sell baby powder?
I worked Customer Service for Pfizer when the sale was made to J&J. I was kind of offended at the time that the company was being bought out by the Band-Aid and baby powder people, like somehow they weren't worthy of buying such a prestigious company. Once the sale went through and we started handling more of J&J's products (only half of us were fired, lol, I made the cut!), I began to realize just how big they actually were. Thanks for telling us what you had to say about it!
Dang, J&J owns almost the whole OTC market. 😯
Alec Ryan Moriarty they have around 4% globally, GSK with their recent JV with Pfizer now have just under 8% and are market leader. 👍
I think between them and Proctor & Gamble they probably produce 90% of the household goods we buy here in the US.
I was thinking just last night that you should do this video. Great minds think alike
Sounds like a company that would jack up the price of an affordable drug by 23,000%

Hey guys drinking game, every time Company Man says "Johnson" you gotta take a shot of whiskey
you should do a video on newell brands they own a lot of everyday brands that you wouldn't think are owned by the same company and they have fallen on hard times in more recent years due to an expensive merger.
Johnson 2x
Used to do work for their surgical device subsidiary. Toured one of their plants once, mindblowing....

I didn't realize they were so big in the medical Industry, I always just thought of them as the company behind all the household staple brands we use every day, kinda like Nestle
Don’t forget that it’s a family company
A family company that knowingly put carcinogens in it's baby powder for decades and is now trying to make a vaccine for corona. Yeah fam, I ain't taking a single fucking vaccine from them.
Johnson + Johnson isn't the same as S.C. Johnson (which is the "family company").

I was thinking about this one a couple of days ago and now here it is
I worked off & on for a warehouse that only dealt with Johnson & Johnson brands and my mind was blown🤯They literally have their hands in every industry
This is the earliest I’ve been to one of your videos
I got my Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccination today! 4-1-21!👍

Well rip you
CM: "...[T]here are actually three Johnson brothers that are significant here..." (flashes Johnson & Johnson & Johnson logo)
Me: "This is getting out of hand!"
I always knew they were huge but had no idea how. That makes total sense they really hit the mark with that initial push of single use medical equipment
Love your videos man. It's interesting to learn random facts from companies I've worked for. Keep the good content!
Make a Reckitt benckiser video love your videos
I like this "Bigger than you Know" series when the companies are actually surprisingly huge. I know it's hard to find brands that are unkown/only associated with a few products that are colossal but it's unsatisfying when the company isn't really that large. Kudos to you anyway.
I knew so much about this company since I’m invested into it but i still like to hear company man
I think it's important to note that the controversial baby powder was only the one produced from Talcum. The vast, vast majority of the baby powder Johnson and Johnson sells is made from corn starch. Most every baby powder in the stores are starch based. You'd have to look hard for talcum based powders. The corn starch versions are a delightful, effective, safe, (if highly flammable) option.
