I’m just amazed as to how you remember all these authors and info about each book you introduced to us viewers . You have a Beautiful gift . I admire your zeal to teach in a more organic way to your kids . I truly am inspired by many of your videos and use some of your tips with my 2 year old granddaughter and these ways so far work . Thank you & God bless you
teachingtoddler I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else needs to find out about how to talk to your child try Loctavan Teaching Toddler Strategy ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my brother in law got amazing results with it.
I live by the rule that there is no book too hard for a child. I HATE when parents won't let their kid have a book because it's "too hard." They make perfect read alouds and help develop their vocabulary. 💖
My first grade teacher wouldn't let me get a book because it was "above my reading level" even though i would always read ahead during reading group. My mom would also read books with me so i would follow along with the words in the book while she read.
We love books! No budget for books. 😆 At one point I had over 100 board books. We’ve downsized because we’re moving. I grew up with a library in my house, so books are very important to me.
Thank you for sharing, I stumbled upon your channel a month ago. I only have a 2 yr old boy, but now I’m learning and teaching him about this style of learning
This is very helpful for me because i always just leaned towards storybooks especially ones i grew up with but i am so exited to re ecplore the natural world with my baby and learn new things with her. I cant wait to show her the coold and interesting things in this world.
I love your videos! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and knowledge! I love how you talk about borrowing books form the library, just validating that you don’t have to buy a ton of books for your toddler.
Our daughter goes to casa and while i can see/understand some of the reasons for not encouraging imaginary play in class, at home we let her follow her own learning. We have good mixture of books, from ones like these, to classic stories and new story books. Since the day she came home (4-5 days old) I've read to her every day, some times up to 10 books a day (sometimes the same book multiple times a day) at almost 3 she has the vocabulary of other children twice her age, and already recognizes many words...i'm sure she'll be fine.
We do the same in this house. And my daughter has benefited in the same way. :) As I mentioned, I only shared our favorite nonfiction/reality-based books in the interest of the book suggestions remaining in line with Montessori ideals. 👍🏻😊
Awesome, my partner and I love the channel and have learnt a lot. And while we are very new to Montessori, it seems to be a great fit for our daughter.
This is amazing! Been searching for books for my toddler recently. Also, thanks for doing this vlog. I really enjoyed watching you and your family. The content of your videos are very helpful for starting momtessoris like me. 🙂
Thank you so much.. I have been following you since my child was 6months till now… I see a great difference in the way I approach my kids and the way my kid reacts to it… thanks a bunch for everything that you share.. can you share book recommendations for 30months to 3years ?
Great video, my first Grandchild will be born in November, and it was so nice seeing all of these book suggestions. I literally was filling my Amazon cart through this whole video! Great guide for building baby’s library! Thank you for sharing! 😀
This is amazing resource on all the books that you shared in this video. You are great inspiration and making it interesting to us to follow Montessori method for our child..wishing more great success in raising your two child...One of the book name One rainy day for counting numbers mentioned that they have counting till 11 and not to 10. I saw closely and realized that author is Indian. Indian greatly belives in odd numbers for doing anything auspicious..so there is a reason to count till 11 and not to 10..on another note your videos are awesome and i have been following as a parent to follow Montessori ways to raise my daughter..waiting for another interesting video from happa family😀😀😀😀
WOW the fact that u have a 5-month-old baby and you can be nursing her while filming a video shows how different all babies are! Our daughter would never be able to do that. When she nurses she's all over the place, flapping her arms around, biting me, pulling my nipple, scratching my chest, demanding my attention and eye contact, pulling away, then coming back again. Basically impossible for me to ever focus on anything else. :D
Another series I love is the Indestructibles series one reason is because my little one loves to get her hands on books and these WILL NOT RIP! Or get broken down like some of the board books! She loves them, they are not too long and have great realistic colors for whatever the book is talking about! You will not only see the animal but you will see it in its’ natural environment doing what that animal typically does, as well as there are a lot of different topics! Each book is amazing and educational! Your baby will love it, plus ones he or she gets older they can start pointing things out! Great video and thanks for more books, I don’t believe you can ever have too many! I look forward to the next video:)
Thanks so much for sharing this Ashley! Wonderful to hear which books you love and why. Also to have a look inside! We order our books at the book depository (much cheaper! At least if you live in Denmark), but great with the Amazon links too.
ALSO so glad you mentioned sounds before letters. Gemma loves letters and I just mentioned in my vlog from this morning that I thought Montessori and Charlotte Mason methods waited until much older to do letters. I didn’t know about sounds first, I’ll have to read more into that!
This is a great list! However the no fantasy element of Montessori is something I really struggle with, both in book form and in the classroom. I've tried teaching Montessori and it's just not for me. I love so many of the elements of the philosophy though, and so I really enjoy your videos. :) I'm a massive advocate for RIE, which I feel is the best of both worlds!
Me too! I think Ashley and her channel is an amazing Montessori resource but I can’t abandon fantasy either. I pull bits and pieces from it, like observing and following the child, minimal praise, etc.
this comment is 3 years old, but she does allow her children access to fantasy, she just makes sure to remind them often its not real and she does advocate for RIE as well
Hey Ashley, thank you so much for your time and resources. I was wondering if you have time and feel comfortable sharing, could you do a book update on the girls current favorites or your whats on your reading wish list? I'm a preschool teacher and a mom so this is truly appreciated and valued. Also, so that I don't have to comment under another video, I would like to request a video on birthday presents for the girls this year. I get so inspired by those because my daughter and son are just months younger than the girls so its really fun to see what you plan on getting them.
11:25 I love the Little Green Frog! The ducklings hatching page at the end with the navy blue background I think would make such a pretty mural. And, yes, I thought maybe your husband made that book display! super excited to view that link/ video! Thank you!
Hi....really appreciate your effort....Can you please put forth a video on the current list of books that Kylie enjoys or has enjoyed between 3-4years of age....that would be very helpful ....thank you in advance
thank you so much for this video. I'm here in Brazil, growing my boy speaking english to him and he loves books. by the way, if someone of you guys reading these comments wants to sell used books and send them to me it would be awesome.
This is my new favorite UA-cam channel! Thank you sooo much for all the helpful tips! Are you a Gator (UF)? Just curious because I saw your Gator sweats and got all excited (I’m a Gator too, lol, c/o 2009). I have a 19 month old and due for baby #2 when my daughter is 2 years old, similar to the age difference between Kylie and Mia, so it’s extra nice watching your videos because it’s a bit like getting a glimpse into our future so we can have an idea what it might be like. :-). Love your parenting style and vlogs and all the useful info you are putting into your videos/content created. Like you say, “from one busy mom to another”, thank you so much!!! You are awesome!!!
Yes, I am! ☺️ And oddly enough, I graduated from undergrad in ‘09, too! I did my first 2 years at UF and the last two at USF. And then went back to UF for grad school. Go 🐊!! 🥰 Congrats on baby #2, being exactly 2 years apart is PERFECT! 💕 So glad you’re enjoying our videos!!
I love your work Ashley.. I'm learning so much from you.. so grateful! Some of these are unavailable in India and the others are quite expensive. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you again 💖💖💖
We just ordered 6 books from the Hello World series from bookoutlet.com for a seriously awesome price! If you're looking for more! We love them also. Thanks for all the recommendations!
Thank you for the awesome, informative content you put out. I recently discovered you and just love and appreciate you. My tot is 22 now so she’s a little late to Montessori method but we are all in🙌🏼 also ...we’re in Greeley!!
Oh, another question! What’s your process at the library? :) I imagine that Kylie might reach out for an unrealistic book, do you go through them at the library? And will you say no to some? I imagine this isn’t unique to your preferences in books, I for example would have a hard time checking out a very gender stereotypical book. But I was curious what your behaviour/language is if she’s drawn to a book you’re not a fan of?
I really really appreciated this video, thanks :) I’m interested in learning more about the montessori thoughts on realism. I have a wonderful mother in law who is very imaginative and gives stuffed animals and food voices and ”unrealistic” stories, and I was hoping to better understand the effect that the montessori approach to realism hopes to have on the kids. Do you have any recommended video/reading on it?
Thank you so much for sharing the list of books. I have been reading to my daughter ever since she was 3 months old and now she is 6 months old and we really enjoy our reading time before bedtime. I have a question that since now libraries are closed, then how do you rotate books every week and purchasing books every week is expensive?
My baby loves to hear about animals, rocks, robotics, & lots of things science related really. I get a bunch of National Geographic & smithsonian books but the regular books not baby books.
Thank you for such a great video! I wonder how to do it best way - changing children books? I mean: I have bought some new books. Shall I give all of them to the child at once and take away all old books? and make a rotation once a week, for example? Or it will better to give him only one new book taking away one old one and so forth? when you come back home from the library you give a daughter all new books at once and leave several her favourite ones also?
Hi Ashley, I was wondering your opinion on when to remove books from your child’s shelf that seem a bit too young for them. We have quite a few of the lift and flat books still on my sons shelf but they are definitely too easy. I have no problem leaving them on the shelf because he enjoys them, and I know that it is great to repeat read books for children. I was just wondering if you had an opinion on this? Maybe you thought that I should only remove them if he no longer shows interest in them? I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks so much for your time. As always, I truly enjoy your videos and look forward to any time you upload a new one.
Loving this. Thank you so much for the info on the books. All of my son's books are hand me downs from my sis son & I'm not sure which books are considered Montessori or not. I wanted to get rid of those books that aren't Montessori but am not sure what I should be looking for in the books to be able to tell if I should keep them or not. Does anyone know? 🤔
In a strict Montessori environment you want to use realistic books ie books that are either non fiction or have realistic stories (eg every day stuff that happens to your child). Illustrations should be either realistic, life-like drawings or photographs. Things like peppa pig where you have a walking, talking and dressed pig would be considered non montessori. I believe Ashley has made another video where they talk about why montessori tries to avoid non realistic materials in small children. Obviously in your own home you can use whatever criteria you want to use to pick books :)
Just curious, are you that mom that everyone hates because you seem like you have it together? Like do you get alot of mom hate? You’re SUCH a wonderful mom! And i get told that I am too- i know theres alot of negativity around moms who “have it together” how do you deal with it if so?
Does anyone know if I can find these books in french? I am French and my husband's first language is English and we really want our child to speak both languages
Hi ashley.. thank you for replying to the questions.. my daughter is 2 yr old.. she likes to read books.. wanted to ask how many books should i introduce to her in a week or month? And how to rotate the books? For eg- if she likes a particular book should i always keep on her shelf or rotate tht book as well - how many books to keep on shelf?
I always keep out any books that she shows interest in. But we rotate all others every 2-3 weeks with our library trips. And 10 - 12 books at a time is a good number for a 2 year old.
Any tips for getting little ones to stop eating and ripping the books? My little one loves books and wants to play with them on her own but she destroys them so quick!
They do grow out of it eventually! :) Just keep modeling and reminding. We always said (in a light, positive tone), “Books are for reading, not eating!” while removing it from her mouth. 😊👍🏻
Anna Titka getting a few bath books helped me out in the teething phase. Board books often get plasticized in my home, as a means to hopefully prolong their life.
How do you read these no word picture books or these books that are one word to your baby? It throws me when there are no sentences or like the 100 words series
Name the items! Start easy with "cat, dog, bike, etc" and then you can add on for more language development as your child grows - yellow cat, big elephant, cold snow...or the yellow cat is running, the small baby is crying 🤗
I stumbled upon your channel this morning. I'm just curious isn't allowing your child to have imagination skills important too? kids learn to separate real life from fantasy eventually. I'm asking because im curious if there is some research to back up Montessori books instead of fantasy.
I addressed this in my Pretend Play video (and I believe I also put a list of reading in the description box for that video, too): ua-cam.com/video/ENVtJ0eT-cw/v-deo.html
👋 Career Nanny for 10+ years here 🙋♀️Here We Are is SO BEAUTIFUL and Big Girl Panties is fun. Love Leslie Patrecelli books; the Potty book is very helpful to have next to the toilet to read while they wait for the pee or poo to come (every kid loves saying “Tinkle tinkle TOOT!” 😂) and also Yummy Yucky has been very helpful to learn what goes in the mouth and what doesn’t. The LoveEvery books are all just real photographs with no words, mostly of babies showing different emotions, body parts, animals, etc… Some great inclusionary books are Hats of Faith by Medeia Cohan, Say Hello by Rachel Isadora (learn to say hi in multiple languages), Bodies Are Cool by Tyler Feder, Julián Is a Mermaid by Jessica Love and All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold & Suzanne Kaufman. Don’t Hug Doug is also a fantastic book to teach about consent, body autonomy and setting boundaries. And finally, I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont is a beautiful book with positive affirmations. The illustrations aren’t STRICTLY realistic, but it’s such a wonderful book and I like to teach toddlers to recite some of the affirmations back to me as they go down for nap time. Oh, and Zoo Ology by Joelle Joliet is a very large book of animal illustrations that I swear has every single animal in it (I actually learned a lot from that one myself lol) Hope this helps!
I’m just amazed as to how you remember all these authors and info about each book you introduced to us viewers . You have a Beautiful gift . I 100% agree! Some folks just get hung up on the “right” reading level, which is why I addressed it.
My first grade teacher wouldn't let me get a book because it was "above my reading level" even though i would always read ahead during reading group. My mom would also read books with me so i would follow along with the words in the book while she read.

Been waiting for this! Thank you supermom Ashley! From Philippines with love
So happy that you've created your Amazon store. I was going to request to do this. Helps lots!
Such a GREAT list! Thank you for the research and recs!
Love this list 😊 another book series my toddler loves is the I Spy Little Book series. He loves matching the objects.
I've been on the lookout for a list like these! Thank you so much I'm so excited for my babys book journey Haha

Of course! The farm one is our favorite💕
Love all those books suggestions!! Thank you momma!! 🥰
Thanks so much for sharing this Ashley! Wonderful to hear which books you love and why. Also to have a look inside! We order our books at the book depository (much cheaper! At least if you live in Denmark), but great with the Amazon links too.
Grateful I have found you ♥️
Oh my gosh, so funny!! I made a mental note last night to see if you had a book video yet 🤣🤣🤣 perfect timing 💕

11:25 I love the Little Green Frog! The ducklings hatching page at the end with the navy blue background I think would make such a pretty mural. And, yes, I thought maybe your husband made that book display! super excited to view that link/ video! Thank you!

I would also recommend the little people big dreams series on amazon
Oh, and ordered three books from.this list + the planes book from the last video.. :) in time for my daughter's first birthday :)
Mia has great comedic timing

I love your work Ashley.. I'm learning so much from you.. so grateful!
Some of these are unavailable in India and the others are quite expensive. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you again 💖💖💖
We just ordered 6 books from the Hello World series from bookoutlet.com for a seriously awesome price! If you're looking for more! We love them also. Thanks for all the recommendations!
Lauren Hennessy I DIDNT EVEN KNOW ABOUT THIS WEBSITE THANK YOU!!
Thank you for this website!!!!!
Thank you can these books post to Australia..
You rock Ashley 🙌🏽✨
i miss your channel! WIll you do an update book list on preschoolers?
Thank you for the awesome, informative content you put out. I recently discovered you and just love and appreciate you. My tot is 22 now so she’s a little late to Montessori method but we are all in🙌🏼 also ...we’re in Greeley!!
Hi! When you read to your baby, do you read the same book every night or choose a different book each night? Suggestions?
Hi there! Is there like a capsule list of books you would suggest? Like absolute must haves? 🤞
Thank you for the recommendations!
Great list! Thanks!
Emelie Fransson I was going to ask a very similar question...too bad she didn’t answer it:(
Allyson Brackett Thanks! :)

Hey Ashley! Thanks for the upload :)
Hello. What is the exactly mesures at your bookshelf ?
Thank you! These are perfect!
Thank for this Ashely~ Wonderful recommendations :)
What about fiction books for toddlers? Please share some of them... especially the ones that children can sing along. Many thanks.
Thanks for sharing my friend!!❤

Anna Titka cloth books for when she wants to play unsupervised. Kids break things.
Is this the Montessori approach to movies as well? Or can kids watch fictional movies/ TV shows before the age of 6?
Yes, the approach for TV/movies would be the same, technically speaking.
Do you homeschool or does she go to preschool
Both of my girls will be attending preschool once they are about 3 1/2. 🥰
Would Peppa pic be considered fantasy? Since they are anthropomorphic animals.
Yes. Anything that isn’t real life, and pigs in real life do not talk.
I love you guys!!! It would mean the world to me if you responded!!!💕 (or pinned it jk)
Glad you are enjoying our videos! 💕
Awesome list. Thank you
