Brad Dalton is a great game designer. The fact that he put a "story mode" in the game to get people a little practice in the game on their own (the same way actual fighting video games do) to prepare you for multiplayer is a stroke of genius.
Challenge accepted! This is one is my #1 game of all time. That doesn't necessarily translate to being so great at it, but I think it's a pretty unimpeachable design, especially now with this new edition.
Thank you for reviewing this edition. I felt like the new changes and modes definitely deserved being looked at. Sometimes more can be a good thing. The tuck boxes make this game way more accessible. Its a sword fight in a telephone booth.
Level99 also publishes (and updates) their own FREE official Tabletop Simulator workshop mod that includes all tournament-legal characters from the various BattleCon releases. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2182704749&searchtext=battlecon BattleCon 4th Edition is intended to be the final revision/release of the Battlecon system, so no more system-wide changes are planned or expected. BattleCon War is now published in 4E, as is the new Wanderers. Trials and Fate are not yet available in 4E, except through patches from the last KS, but there were talks abt making upgrade packs avail(?). For those that worry Dev is too big of a purchase (30+ characters), War is a smaller purchase (18 characters). Wanderers, Trials, and Fate are each 10 characters, but as noted above, only Wanderers is currently out-of-the-box 4E. Otherwise, Trials is also a good starter set w/ a good mix of characters.
I need to get around to organizing all my battlecon stuff sometime soon. I got the 4th edition and the big storage box, but it's just a big pile of boxes in the corner for when I have an extra day off to go through everything.
I love BattleCON. Unfortunately, South Africa's gaming scene is on the small side. So, it's just about impossible to find someone with whom to play a niche lifestyle game 😢

I adore these changes. It's a pleasure to review a property that has gotten years of development time. It shows here.

Took me a long time to get everything together. At least a couple of hours. But I had a big smile on my face at the end of it :).
Yeah, it took me the better part of a day (I also sleeved the game) but it was well worth it. Makes all future set-up a breeze
Great review Jason.
Thank you!
They had modes before..
