"and that's it, for body parts" Haha
Yeah. It's to bad. I wanted to hear him say tip of the nose.
@@FabledGentleman or other parts 😏
@@FabledGentleman Yeah what else could there be? Can't think of anything else apart from hair ;)
@@Mistanyycguy Tip of the tongue, of course. How could you forget?
@@halvempi_ap And nothing else comes to the mind.
Here’s a tip: based on your view counts, you need to bring ISMO on more often 😉
Very good
"And that's it for body parts" LMAO!
Yeah - or did you have another body part on the tip of your tongue?
Tip of the nose?
Just the tip
@@jonasthemovie wmnsoon
That's just the tip of the ASS-Berg
I don’t speak Finnish, but I’ve seen a video of him performing in Finnish, and he is totally different. His English persona is fairly mild mannered and somewhat innocent and reserved. His Finnish persona is more energetic and confident. I’m impressed that he was able to make the transition.
I think the natural part of it is, he is fully aware he's not perfect in English, and subconsciously more on his toes - so he takes it more mildly and humbly, somewhat bewildered. In Finnish it's just without such possible pitfalls - in English he could easily come over some blind spot he's not familiar with. He did describe in some interview, even in English, that he has to check his material with some genuine, native Anglophones before staging.
@@timomastosalo are you saying he is tip-toeing in English?
I have thought that it is probably challenging to be funny in another language. The nuances can be a real challenge, I think.
This is true. I know Finnish, and I would say Ismo is more like any other indigenous comedian in his own language. A little bit more rough and outspoken, ruder also. But I prefer his English language persona. It is in that capacity that he has found his unique touch.
His Finnish persona is also a bit unconfident in Finnish scale. But thats true that he is more deer in a headlight, when he is speaking english. Maybe cause he is Finnish :)
I like this guy!
His tips on how to tip are tipping the scales for his career. It’s just the tip of the iceburg. Massive success is at the tips of his fingers.
ISMO is becoming the best English teacher hahah
If it's to serve AND protect then no tip.. Apparently he learned that the hard way!!! Poor Ismo 🤣🤣🤣
A bribe. Now that was funny! Really enjoyed these.
no tip
We have a joke in Switzerland:
How to anger a Swiss cop?
When you're issued a small fine that you can pay on the spot:
Pay, and say you don't need a receipt...
A tip of the hat to Ismo for tipping the confusion towards a better understanding of correct usage.
Tip top tips
AMAZING!!! Please give us more ISMO!
Tämä oli loistava näytös.Kiitos Ismo. . .
Tipping in the american way is really, really weird especially for us Finns, so glad he brought that up ;)
Yup. Seems like some shady income. How is the IRS supposed to tax that?
Just pay the workers the correct wage!
florenna It’s just plain. I was born and raised here in America, and it’s really stupid. Our minimum wage laws specifically exclude wait staff, so if we don’t tip them, their employer would have to pay them minimum wage. I’d rather just be charged the right amount to pay the people doing the service.
Thanks for the tips, Ismo.
Ismo, it's really time for you to come to Åland now and I bet you already have a line of Swedish words to disassemble. Anyway, you're a great comedian and always awaiting your updates.
Love this guy!
Gotta love ISMO.
Love Ismo. He's a great English teacher. I get an A in his class. 👨🎓👨💻😝
"Serve" but not "serve and protect". "And that's it for body parts". Laughing out loud.
He forgot to mention that also water can tip from the tap...also tap can also mean at least 2 things: The one already mentioned and the limit buying on someones elses expense when they have agreed to pay on behalf of others like fri example buying a round in a bar for everyone
Thanks for the tip Ismo!
If Ismo had been my teacher it would have been way more fun. :)
Thanks, I learnt something new
hi..i hv been following since last year on Merriam Webster vdo....U r a great guy
More Ismo!
I must tip my hat to Ismo for this.
You don’t tip people who serve you. You tip people who are paid less than minimum wage by their employer.
Not up to me to pay them. That's the Employer's job. Or maybe the government introducing a minimum wage.
So, one TIP from me, Ismo. The noun "advice" is uncountable, so it's not a good idea to say "an advice". If you want to use it in singular, try "a piece of advice". Anyway, I'm a big fan of yours and I love your sense of humor! Have fun exploring the language and I will follow!
I think I'll go now and "tip a few" (🍻 beers) 🤣😅😆
I love the way you tipped here. However, I can't tip you. :)
Waiters get their pay anyway here in Finland, but I tip the doormen all the time - and believe me, it is worth it, in so many ways.
Good music!
Ismo is one hella funny guy ^^
Ismo, tnx for your humor! And I hope they will wone dejy understand. And I know why you move to L.a. It's wormer with finnaly double V. Keep on going
I'd love to see the Finnish counterparts of the words Ismo talks about - like: what is the Finnish for each of the many meanings of 'tip', 'shit', etc? I'd love to see them said/shown - just for a fuller understanding of the situation
Love you man
I ❤ only God and my family. 🙏.
The irony that is the English language an all its variants allows for creative use of metaphor and word play. IMSO is funny as heck pointing them out, but I love the ability to work within is stretchy fabric.
YASSSS ISMO
Top treasure of tip top tips
Ansd a ...that's it for body part..lolz good one
I;VD NEVER HEARD ANY ONE WHO HAD SO MUCH WIT. HE SURE MAKES MY TUMMY HURT WITH LAUGHTER.
OMG this dude cracks my shit up!!
Fingertip you can point with too. Tippingpoint?
Now we can learn English words better only with the ISMO, this is a tip.
Ismo oot kyl huippu... top 😁.... tip top 😂😂
A genius. Hope He will visit us in Germany too :)
Give him a tip for that
And that's it for body parts killed me.
Ismo and the word matters.
you are great
There was just one more body part he did not mention.
The tip of the nose.
Tip of nose ! One more ! 😂
a tip is also where we take rubbish in England, "take it to the tip"
Not if they serve and protect. 😂😂🤣🤣
He is a great linguist.
Serve and tip🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great -- and in Australia, tip can also refer to the garbage dump. Like, I'm taking my shit to the tip.
So... If a prosecutor comes and gives me a piece of paper and says "You've been served", I should tip?
Hahah good one!
Tip over? Just a tip, slipping my fingertips.
Yes, if you have lots of money...so that paper will vanish...
5. A tip is also a rubbish dump in other English speaking countries.
you learn something new every day
Also in Sweden
Good tip
+tubester4567 that's one of the two other meanings I came to the comments to mention. A rubbish tip, and also "tipping" is another name for betting, especially in sports.
Here in Australia, we call the 'rubbish dump or refuse, 'the tip'. Take all that rubbish to the tip.
@Destiny Palmist We do in Sweden too.
I thought it was called a skip, maybe the UK?
@@chris24hdez a very large metal bin without a lid, that is transported in the back of a truck (lorry or semi-trailer) is what we call a skip(bin) in Australia.
If the word is used in both Swedish and English, it must be a very old word. Then it should still be used in other European languages?
@@chris24hdez the skip is emptied onto the tip (rubbish dump) :-)
Funny 😆 there is "Fly Tipping" too which means something else entirely
I’m learning English with ismo
And the rubbish tip in Australia.
Where our rubbish is taken 😊
"Taking this to the tip"
"Going to the tip on the weekend"
"Its a (rubbish) tip" means its a real mess
In the UK, a tip is also a garbage disposal & recycling center. Theres an extra tip for ya
Why... don't you just pay the waiters enough... like decent human beings... It is NOT the customer's job to pay their salaries, they pay for the product already.
Product and rent. And 'sociosphere'. I think Jim Carrey invented that word.
When I travel to warm countries like Greece or Spain I tip waitresses IF the bill is normal price, not too big compared to what I got for it. In my own country in Scandinavia I never give tips, never ever. I only do it when I'm a guest in another country. In Israel I never give tips, why? because in every restaurant or cafeteria the waitresses tells me "tips is not included" when they handle me the bill!! How rude; its like they force and beg me to pay tips. And tips is supposed to be something you give IF you want to. Not something that the waitresses BEG for!!! So they never ever get it from me when I travel in Israel.
@@mrsTraveller64 No offense but not tipping in many places will get you nasty things in your food. Watch the 2005 American movie "Waiting". May have you rethink your tipping habits. And believe me if you think this doesn't happen you are kidding yourself. Most wait staff are paid horrible wages. It's like being a mom serving dinner to like 20-30 people for 8-12 hrs. It's a nightmare. No I have never been a food server but i am a mom of grown kids from a huge family. The oldest and helped my mom most of the time. Waiters deserve to be treated better.
@@debbiefox6846 well... Since tipping doesn't happen until after...I am guessing the nasty things already happened...and therefore the meal was already not worthy a tip...but maybe a lawsuit?
They will just pass the added payroll costs to your meal. The average restaurant owner isn't going to become a millionaire. Profit margins are pretty low and they spend ungodly hours at work if they don't want the place to go under.
Don't give the waitress your tip if she doesn't wan't it.
There's also 'tippy', a state of slight drunkenness in English Women, and tip, the drive-in garbage dump, as in: "Take that load of junk to the tip". Maybe those are not known so well in the USA?
In America, the cost a truck is charged to pour trash into the garbage dump is called a "tipping fee." Nothing else involving American trash seems to involve the word "tip" - at least, not any more.
Never heard of tippy? But tipsy yeah.
Tip also means Garbage Dump in the UK. So we call it a Rubbish Tip. Or this place is a tip for an unclean room or house. :)
I'm at the tipping point ;)
You could not have picked a better guy to do this piece, though I do miss my crush, Emily Brewster.
@merriam-webster take ISMO back into your advertisements please! he is awesome
A tip is also a dump site or or a descriptive word for a messy house.
😂😂😂
Crazy
Do the word: - matter.
Instructions unclear, tipped an officer.
*tips hat*
From now on I will always give advice to people who wants a tip.
"Seek for a job where boss pays your wage and not the customers"
Not sure if it's the same in America, but in Australia, a tip is also a place where you take rubbish/trash.
"well it looks like my wife is tipping the waiter again" that could mean many things.
"It looks like the waiter is tipping my wife", however, pretty much only means one thing
@@shrewdthewise2840 😂🤣😂🤣
In dutch, "tipsy" is slang for being slightly drunk, in a nice way :-)
here in NZ the tip is also the garbage dump.
Tip of the tongue
Tip top
Top tips
Actually tip referring to a gratuity is not a word but an acronym, To Insure Promptness. Like COP, "constable on patrol", PIN, = personal identification number.
English is known for the excessive substantivation of everything.
🤪🤣
This izmo 😂 guy made me subscribe to meriam webster channrl 😂😂😂
I promise you Ismo, just the tip!
Haaaahahahaha, FUNNY
Where are the rest of videos from ISMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God damn
At ISMO UA-cam channel, or Ismo.fun
Brought to you by, the letter T.
Tripptank tip
Yeah, he should start from A and go all the way to Z.
The audience have a darker sense of humor then Ismo😅
You could also tip your hat and nod. Or you could be in tip top shape.
Serve = ok to Tip. Protect= no, its a bribe 🤣🤣🤣 . Not applicable in politics ... in where they first bribe, then they tip!🤣
You forgot the tip of the nose...for bodybarts. There is another one you forgot, but im not saying that one! :)
You have fingertips but not toetips, but you can tiptoe and not tipfinger
Its also a description of a teenagers bedroom
you are so cute !
So... a tip for waiters is basically a bribe to get a better service?
No. Originally the tip was to buy them a drink as a reward for service.
'Tip' also means a rubbish dump.
Jesus, I wish u were my English teacher.
I'm prefer Ismo instead of Jesus. Yes, I'm from Finland, too.
I don't think English existed when Jesus was around. Still, he may have learnt it since then.
Guedes
You can go to the tip with a car but better is a tipper truck, yet not to be confused with a driver that gives a lot of money to a waiter more like a guy that has a big load in his trick to get rid of. Hmmm ismo fancy meeting for a coffee this chat could be interesting 🤔😁
The reason some words have multiple meanings is because they ran out of letters for making new words. They used up all the letters, rather wasted them. What was the need to use a ‘b’ in words like ‘debt’ when you don’t want to pronounce it in the end?
He missed the tip of the nose.
