I was married to a Finn and lived in Finland for years. Finns are calm, literal, factual and stoic. They don't show much emotion or compliment each other. The good news is when they say something, they actually mean it. It's not an overused exaggeration like in American English.
I am Finnish and I compliment my friends all the time. Like yesterday I told my co-worker "you are not late for once, good job".
Finn or not Finn, if woman says something she never say what she actually mean it. Around the globe.
I,m Finn but i don,t recognize me from that. I think we are like people everywhere. Stoic? Calm? Not in my family and friends 😁
@YoungManNihilist That's really nice of you! Compliments lift people up. In the USA, it's common to compliment total strangers...and to have conversations with total strangers. This behavior with strangers is not the norm in Finland. Even Ismo the comedian speaks about this.

I've been to two of his gigs. He is even better live and stayed to meet him in person after one of the shows and he is just as fun and down to earth out of his act too.

Ismo is so funny. I love these little snippets from his shows. His comedy is different and for me refreshing.
His charm is that he takes EVERYTHING at face value. Stuff we ignore as fluff he sees as literal and points it out. That's what makes it so darn funny.
Finns are very literal and factual people. It is the culture. They are stoic, dry, and mean what they say.

2:23, a woman in the background also says "great", clearly resonating to what Ismo is saying. Those moments happen a lot when excellent comedians tell us their clever observations. Ismo excels at that.
Yes. Ismo has sometimes good jokes but at least most of the Finnish jokes are ok/just better than mediocre but his appearance and show is just beyond excitment and I cannot contain myself.

I’m a Japanese person who is learning English.Your comedy are great text to learn English. They are fabulous beyond the description. I can’t wait anymore to hear the next one.
I appreciate Ismo's ability to create a comedic bit out of mundane moments. He will never run out of material, as he can make a joke out of anything.
The way Ismo understands the nuances of the English language is simply amazing. And what's more amazing is that he is not even a native English speaker, yet he makes the native speakers laugh at their own language. His material and timing are spot on, nobody can copy and deliver it as effectively as he can. Pure comedy genuis.
I think not being a native helps to make the obsrvations. One gets blind to the illogical expressions in one's own language. Well, Ismo has some good remarks on the Finnish language - but not on this level.
I'm quite sure his American wife has helped him improve his English, if not in more ways. Not to take away from his brilliance. I love intelligent comics like he is, both in English and Finnish.
@@jennifer1329 I've understood his wife is Finnish - they married before moving to America, I think. But we Finns study English pretty profoundly in the school, many read scientific publications daily - just the chances to speak it constantly are not available for many - the majority, perhaps.
So it basically just needs cultural adjustment, when crossing the Atlantic pond, or moving to the Old Blimey. And we Finns hear more the American than British English.

I don't think we realize the genius that ismo is. He is the most original comedian in recent times. He is up there. I am almost pissed off at myself for only knowing about him this late. His delivery and timing impeccable

Because if you know some things about Finland, then you know that is is poking fun at the US AND Finland at the same time! Go Ismo! I know I'm not the first one to say it, but the topics of your jokes are so refreshing among all the common stereotype, sexual and race jokes. As a Finn I get to enjoy you on both languages, but actually even prefer the English ones on average. Hope you get a Netflix special in the near future.

Ismo is super original! He makes so much fun of these thing no one thought of before.
I think it's a personality thing + a multiple-language-speaker thing. The jokes aren't new, but might not have been very common on the American scene / to the current generation / to YT viewers. And he delivers them well.
Ismo you are like the dark horse of comedy, awaiting to be "discovered" by the masses. You are one of the best comics out there, and your style is absolutely unique, sharp and ...good (that's an acceptable compliment for a Fin ? ;-)) Don't want to get too " excited " here to the point I would also start to have muscle spams and the like !!!!!!! Netflix, sign this man.

Was lucky to see Ismo in LA last year, even met him and talked to him. One of the nicest guys you'll ever going to meet. Like most people have said, I told him: "You need a Netflix special". I even bought one of his shirts that I wear proudly that says: "Funny Ass Shit".
