This is good information and if you make the required changes to reverse it, those changes will need to be a permanent part of your life. One can't go back to what you were doing before or you'll be right back in the same situation or worse. I was given bad information which made it take decades to mostly reverse the type 2 symptoms. I'm 72 and do resistance exercises; like 40 pushups and mow the lawn with a push mower, ride a bicycle 5+ miles, etc. . Diet is healthy fats, protein, low carb high fiber vegetables and a small amount of low carb berries. Eat 2 meals a day in a 6 hour timeframe along with intermittent fasting. To start intermittent fasting do a 24 hour one for a start to see how you can handle it. If you are on medications talk with your doctor to work this out first to avoid problems. Good luck and God bless too.

Thanks for helping with the misconceptions of Type 2. Many of us are treated poorly by medical professionals and given no guidance on proper management.

When my A1C hit 6.7 I was put on metformin and a couple other medications. That didn’t set well with me, so I literally threw out medications, changed diet, and exercise. I have been having steady A1C results of 5.0 for the last 2 years. However, I’ve noticed I can’t take my eye off the ball or I start seeing increases.

I have mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome which was a large contributor to making me a type 2 diabetic. I have to watch my exercise because I cannot raise my lactic because the syndrome also caused me to have lactic acidosis. Does cleaning house count as exercise? im trying to get back into the groove of things and I just wanted to know if that counts? Thank you and as always I love your channel!

    • @DiabetesStrong

Yes, everything that gets you moving and raises your heart rate can be considered exercise. Walking is also super effective.

The insulin demand will decline with a sustained elimination of exogenous blood sugar sources (including excess protein). If the blood sugar levels are decreased sufficiently then the body will begin to convert fat from adipose into ketones which the body can use as fuel. Fat loss is a follow-on effect of lowering blood sugar either by very low net-carb diet, by exercise with sufficient recovery, or by both. Managing pre-diabetes or T2D should aim toward reducing the ongoing vascular damage as soon as possible, not manage a bad situation and suffer continued accelerated arterial and capillary decline throughout the body.

The ADA diet recommendations are only better than all you can eat junk fest. That's a very low bar to set. And as important as exercise is, it will only buy you a bit of time without substantial dietary changes. It is closer to "black and white" than the other way around. To be fair, one crucial point he was 100% on point and should be even emphasized more is prioritizing protein! And not surprisingly, something criminally missing from a lot of recipes and meal suggestions promoted by the ADA. The fruit part is dogmatic BS, though! Specially considering that a good number of type 2 diabetics are carb addicted and moderation and addiction don't work well together. Plus they provide nothing you can't get elsewhere from other nutrient rich foods. Some strawberries, blueberries and similar are OK but not NEEDED. There's no fruit quota to meet. That indoctrination is proving hard to shake off.

My Dad was what would now be called LADA, my Mom was Type 2. They both called B... Sh..t on anybody who claimed one form of diabetes was worse than aanother, or that either was preventable. We have types 1, 2, Modys, and I'm a new Rare Atypical type. Diabetes is nobodies fault, it's all hard, and we'd all benefit from at least functional cures.
