I always loved the scene when John finally realizes that Jason really had been careful and didn’t start that fire. You can see the pride in his eyes Because Jason is maturing into a fine young man worthy of the Walton name. Keep up the good work Judy. I look forward to the next one😊😊😊
Judy I was completely glued to the screen hearing your narrative. It was, as always, presented in a humble and enthusiastic manner. I loved it. Thanks again for all your input and how kind you are to your fans. Thanks for doing this.
Great story. I loved when John told Jason “the boy would tell, but the man didn’t”. I’m sure that gave Jason a good feeling! Grandma didn’t say anything about drinking and smoking but from the moment Tip gave the bottles of champagne, she spent her time trying to get it AWAY from Grandpa!!
I Loved it when Tip and all the Waltons were singing and laughing and having a good time in the living room!!! So lively, happy and so much fun!!!💚. Love a Long Way to Tipperary ☘️🍀💚
Awh, love that moment at the end with Will Geer. What a touching memory for you; one of many to be sure! Thanks SO much, Judy, for your wonderful videos. xo
I love your videos, Judy. Watched The Waltons every Thursday night. The best TV drama series there ever was. Thank you for walking down memory lane with us, and your fine work on the show as Mary Ellen (my mother's name, by the way!)
This was a good episode. I'm glad when he told John that it was his fault about the fire and injured dog. Tip was a character that I felt sorry for as he was not fulfilled and happy.
"The Legend" was one of those episodes where anyone could see that that Tip was trying too hard, and like you mentioned, uncomfortable in his own skin. It was sad that all he had to keep himself going was to relive their "glory days". The story was good for teaching that, even if all you had was honesty about yourself, that was enough of a good foundation to build upon. Thanks! ✌🌻
I think most of us can say we’ve known or know a Tip at some point. I always feel sorry for those people. A great episode with other little subplots going on as usual. Thank you for sharing, Judy. Mary
another one I forgot about judy I remember watching this one but forgot about it I'll definitely have to go back and watch this one again I'm starting remember this one now it was a good episode one I liked love how their all singing together great scene and a lot of great scenes in this one thanks for sharing always judy another good one putting the blame on Jason for the fire not a very nice thing to do great video judy 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Brilliant ! I am literally smiling my head off whilst I am listening to your narration. I thoroughly enjoy these 'behind the scenes' episodes. Thanks again for doing these !
HI JUDY & FANS ! OH MY THE ENDIND TO THIS EPISODE IS REAL DEEP. JOHN CATCHES UP TO TIP IN THE CAR & SAYS SOMETHING LIKE " THOSE ARE GOOD MEMORIES , BUT JUST MEMORIES , YOU GOTTA PUT THEM AWAY & START LIVING IN THE PRESENT , & THAT ONE THING HE KNOWS IS THAT "EVERYDAY IS A NEW DAY , A CHANCE TO MAKE A FRESH START ".THE LOOK ON TIP WAS , IM A FOOL FOR NOT DOING THAT , HE LOOKED ASHAMED. I WATCHED THIS MANY TIMES , AS YOU CAN SEE. THANK-YOU WALTON CAST !
This is one of my favorite episodes. There's so much to it from Jason's mature reaction about the fire to Johnboy watching his father handle his old treasured friend after Tip did him and the family wrong. It seemed that Tip had fallen in the mud and couldn't get himself back up on his feet, and John finally saw it, great lessons all the way around. Interesting how the story dove into some truth about how people actually handled coming back from the war, even though some do come home there's a part of them that never does. This story shows the importance of how two men can live through the same event, yet one of them still hadn't found his way back home.
Judy, I so appreciate your kind replies to so many of these comments including mine. I love that you are doing these episodes. Makes my Mondays (and Thursdays) much better!
Hi! Judy, thank you for sharing season one with us. I agree with you when John's friend smoking and drinking in the house grandma Walton surely would say something about it. I don't know why something wasn't said about it either?
Judy (alias Mary Ellen) what a nice way to brighten up a rainy Monday in the middle of America. Once again such deep lessons in each of these episodes that are life lessons. The world loves the Walton's and the world needs the Walton's. Thanks for all you are doing to keep the story alive. Here it comes ... we'll catch you again on another episode of "Behind the Scenes with Judy". Get your umbrella as it's raining in the middle of America on this fall Monday.
I just seen this one the other day ..Boy Tip was quite nerve racking lol ☺ great actor for this part . Love all the Songs from the Waltons 😍 thanks Judy
I thought he was not responsible enough, but just trying to relive his younger days ,& forgetting that he is not young anymore, but a good job he did playing the part
Judy, I loved Mary Ellen. Always dreaming and wondering what life off the mountain was like. Her sense for adventure was so heart warming. Sometimes a tomboy and sometimes a girl acting older then she was. But in the end staying close to her home and taking care of the people she had come to love on the mountain. Please keep up the wonderful video's.
I remember being very impressed with Jason in that scene with his father! I felt bad for the Legend character; he tried so hard to be a winning person, but, of course with the wrong means. I wonder how many people learned about "life" and how to think and be a good person from The Walton's? As for life lessons, one of my favorite episodes (The Fox?) is when John Boy not only outsmarts the evil landlord, but also helps tenants fix their roof and other maintenance the landlord neglected! It's funny: Earl Hamner is one of the humblest Hollywood people, but that John Boy is always a winner! ☺️🧡I loved when you all sang, especially at Christmas! Thanks for these wonderful videos, Judy! Bless you and Walton's everywhere! 🍃🍂🍁🎃🧡
Oh, Judy, this was an excellent episode. Mary Ellen grabbed the two boxes of candy! 😂 I have known people like the character Tip, in my lifetime, they could not live in the presence, thinking their past was better than it was. He was remembering a time of war as a good time, because he was seen as someone he wasn’t. The part with Jason made me angry with Tip, then with Reckless. You are right about the blood on Reckless looking fake. Very much like the episode with the bear John Boy killed. I felt that was one “friend” John could do without. Thank you for sharing your narrative on this episode. Have a wonderful Columbus Day!
"My bear was bigger than your wimpy little bear!" I knew someone with a similar need to fabricate and embellish, seeming with no reason, and also the same tendency to let others take the blame for his errors. The sort of person who came off as a nice guy, but very much was not.
Great episode. Thank you for this. When I was a child & stayed with my Nan & Grandad my Nan used to sing old songs to me in bed, including It's a Long Way to Tipperary. Great memories of this lovely song. x

Once again a great video!! Loved it that Jason felt that even though he was not guilty of the fire, he was respectful of his elders and took the blame until the truth came out. A true lesson in life from the Walton's!!
Hi Judy, well I was glad in the end when Tip confessed to the problems he caused, the family could see mostly anyway. Most people like that are see thru in many ways, and they are the only ones who don't realize that it is obvious! thanks for all the input!!
What a terrific video Judy. I absolutely love these stories. Thank you for all you do for us. I know it’s a lot of work and time consuming to do projects like this. Once again…THANK YOU!
Once again judy....pure perfection. How many different dogs played Reckless over the years? I imagine there were several recasts. Some people just need to be the center of attention for their own self confidence. This was I think one of a few episodes we saw where the dog was allowed in the house....this one and the one where she had a pup on Erin's bed. Yesterday I watched the episode titled "the roots" this was one of them first episodes with Harley Foster..played by the fabulous Hal Williams. The way Verdi through herself at Harley made me smile.. She saw what she wanted and went for it.
Guess that is the lesson about "Legends". When they're on, they're on, But when by themselves, their conscience tries to put them right? But didn't Tip find John had the better life?
John reminds me of my grandpa in this episode. He's so comfortable in his own skin and content with the simple life. I love the advice he gives Tip in the end, basically that the memories are good, but he needs to retire them and grab a hold of life. Great advice!
Hello Judy. Another one of my top 10 episodes. One thing that always stuck out to me was that Tip was always trying to leave. The family wouldn’t let him. He knew he was no longer the man he once was. He wanted to keep that hidden
Happy Monday Judy!!! Love this episode because of Jason knowing that he did not start the fire. It clearly shows two country boys that really know their stuff, most people especially people from the city would not be thinking which way was the wind blowing, and just knowing that he didn't start the fire was enough for him. My Mom was the same age as Elizabeth and her and my Aunt's just had this knowing regarding country life I was told about but not be a farm girl just did have that extra wisdom about country life. Thank you Judy!!🥰🥰🥰
The Waltons is CLASSIC television on a whole other level. Production values were top tier and scripts were always adult but still accessible to the very young.
Another one of my favorite episodes. I always thought John Boy looked a little tipsy during that sing along 😜. I’m glad you mentioned that the blood on Reckless looked fake. I’ve always thought that myself. Allison Arngrim mentioned during one of her readings on Facebook how to make fake Hollywood blood. She said to add cocoa powder to take the bright red out and I happened to think watching this that since chocolate is poisonous to dogs they might have had to leave that out out of fear that the dog may lick it. Thanks again for another great video. I’m enjoying these very much.
I, too, loved the episodes where there were songs. My favorite was the episode where the family was gifted the spinning wheel from Martha Corinne. The family sang There's an Old Spinning Wheel In The Parlor. Beautiful!
Thanks Judy ❤️ Tip was very troubled but, his visit at times was enjoyable for the family. The kids were so cute with him and John Boy very perceptive on just who Tip was..
always beautiful stories and i guess some people have hard time admitting bad things about themselves so they try to impress others but everyone makes mistakes.
I've been watching each season for several months now. I'm on Season 5 when Grandma is in the hospital and it's just not the same. But I must've missed this episode in the first season so now I want to go back and watch it. I may have missed more than one because I always watch as I'm falling asleep, so they continue to play after I fall asleep so I have to go back and that's why I may miss a few here and there. But I do this with all the old shows because they are so sweet and it's a good thing to watch at the end of the day when you're tired and just want something sweet to watch.
I like the scene where they all singing in the living room and Zeb is drinking the champagne and Esther is trying to get him to slow down drinking it. Another scene where it confused me is Tip arrives and everybody is happy to see him and Tip acts like he is happy. But as soon as he is alone in John Boy's room, he looks depressed.
Seems strange to me that John boy was unable to make himself shoot a turkey, but he seemed all too ready to shoot the fox. Oh well. Such is television.
Could it have been because the fox was a threat to the family's well-being, in that it was killing their chickens? He shot the bear when he had to! The turkey was just minding his own business...🦃🤔
Yes, honesty is the best policy and laughter the best medicine!! This whole episode is legendary and shows how a person is nothing like the image they portray in the company of others, I know many people like this but have learned not to fall for that exterior gloss!! I loved the storyline of this episode and especially the focus on Jason who transitions into a man in his fathers eyes. Thank you yet again Judy for the wonderful work you have put into this channel and into the series, I am totally hooked. Best wishes from your superfan here in cold England😉
I wouldn't have been so forgiving towards my old friend, not telling me he shot the family dog and letting Jason take the blame for the fire, but John was a very forgiving person. Great episode!
Great episode. I don't always comment but I'm here! Thanks for sharing this show and behind the scenes with us. You are a blessing to all us fans of the Waltons! See you next time 💙😊
My favorite song was harvest moon song! I used to sing it to my residents in the nursing home l worked in. They loved it! and l loved it when you all sang it on the show!!! Mrs. Putnam here!
I always felt sorry for the character "Tip" he had his best days in France. He was trying to live up to and recapture that time. Many people I know are unable to move on from college or High School, the same problem they feel they need to live up to that period in their lives
2nd..! Heyy Judy.....I just love these....always finding out something new....I may not remember every episode - ut I know I watched almost every one...! 61 now :)
I had forgotten about this episode too. Lovely memories. I remembered the fire part when you mentioned it but not the singing lol Maybe one day I’ll get to hear you sing live and hear that segment. Great again, thank you.
@@judynorton2598 If you can remember back to the episode with the carnival people, Olivia made it very clear that she didn't approve of smoking. That's why I found it so shocking that it was suddenly permitted in a later episode.
Watching The Love Story right now. Sheriff Bridges goes to the house and enters through the door near the kitchen. Don't recall a guest ever using that door before. And aside from that John and Olivia did not hear the screen door open before the sheriff arrived at the interior door.
@@judynorton2598 I have an idea for an episode you can do. Tell us a pleasant or funny memory you have with each individual cast member. I know there must be so many, but try to give it some thought and come up with the best.
Hi Judy, I watched this episode last night. There was a funny line about Mary Ellen taking down her picture of Babe Ruth. 😄⚾️ One of those lines they included that spoke to the times and the character they wanted Mary Ellen to be at that stage. Cheers and be well.
I love watching your videos, I grew up watching The Waltons, I want you to know that as you describe these moments, that I see the youthful Judy explaining these moments. The mind and the heart stay young regardless on onès actual age. I know because that is how I feel.
I always loved the scene when John finally realizes that Jason really had been careful and didn’t start that fire. You can see the pride in his eyes Because Jason is maturing into a fine young man worthy of the Walton name. Keep up the good work Judy. I look forward to the next one😊😊😊
Thank you- I will.
Judy I was completely glued to the screen hearing your narrative. It was, as always, presented in a humble and enthusiastic manner. I loved it. Thanks again for all your input and how kind you are to your fans. Thanks for doing this.
Very kind of you to say. Thank you.
Great story. I loved when John told Jason “the boy would tell, but the man didn’t”. I’m sure that gave Jason a good feeling! Grandma didn’t say anything about drinking and smoking but from the moment Tip gave the bottles of champagne, she spent her time trying to get it AWAY from Grandpa!!
lol - very true - Grandma hated Grandpa drinking.

Fun times in the Walton house!
Today I just watched "The Love Story" with actress Sian Barbara Allen playing "Jenny". Definitely one of my favorite episodes!!!!
Yes it was special.
That, too, was one of my favorites. She was a good actress, wish she appeared in other episodes...

That's cool. Bit of trivia here- I grew up on Mary Ellen Ave- long before and during the show.
This was a good episode. I'm glad when he told John that it was his fault about the fire and injured dog. Tip was a character that I felt sorry for as he was not fulfilled and happy.
I agree.

I loved all the parties they had for everyone. There was always a lot of singing dancing and having a good time.
Yes, that was fun.
I can't believe Tip tried to get Jason in trouble. As good as Jason is, he already knew something was different about Tip keeping secrets.
Very true.
Another one I have forgot a bout, love the Sing ing and laughing😄
Love the singing. Everyone sung good in harmony

What a terrific video Judy. I absolutely love these stories. Thank you for all you do for us. I know it’s a lot of work and time consuming to do projects like this. Once again…THANK YOU!
My pleasure.
Love these Judy
Glad to hear that.
2 that I remember- 1st a male dog then a female dog.
Guess that is the lesson about "Legends". When they're on, they're on, But when by themselves, their conscience tries to put them right? But didn't Tip find John had the better life?
Very true. Hard to live up to that sort of reputation 24/7
John reminds me of my grandpa in this episode. He's so comfortable in his own skin and content with the simple life. I love the advice he gives Tip in the end, basically that the memories are good, but he needs to retire them and grab a hold of life. Great advice!
Great advice indeed.
Hello Judy. Another one of my top 10 episodes. One thing that always stuck out to me was that Tip was always trying to leave. The family wouldn’t let him. He knew he was no longer the man he once was. He wanted to keep that hidden
Very true - as if he didn’t want to inflict himself on such a good family.
That makes perfect sense. Us city kids learned a lot playing the Walton characters.
The Waltons is CLASSIC television on a whole other level. Production values were top tier and scripts were always adult but still accessible to the very young.
Something for everyone!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you
HI AGAIN JUDY THIS WAS AN AWESOME EPISODE I ENJOY THESE SO MUCH THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR GOOD WORK SEE YOU LATER
You are so welcome.
I, too, loved the episodes where there were songs. My favorite was the episode where the family was gifted the spinning wheel from Martha Corinne. The family sang There's an Old Spinning Wheel In The Parlor. Beautiful!
I agree. I loved the music in the episodes.
I love you! Watch the Waltons every day!
Thanks for watching
Thanks Judy ❤️ Tip was very troubled but, his visit at times was enjoyable for the family. The kids were so cute with him and John Boy very perceptive on just who Tip was..
You are so welcome!

always beautiful stories and i guess some people have hard time admitting bad things about themselves so they try to impress others but everyone makes mistakes.
So true.
Great episode 👏❤️
Glad you enjoyed it.
excellent video judy
I've been watching each season for several months now. I'm on Season 5 when Grandma is in the hospital and it's just not the same. But I must've missed this episode in the first season so now I want to go back and watch it. I may have missed more than one because I always watch as I'm falling asleep, so they continue to play after I fall asleep so I have to go back and that's why I may miss a few here and there. But I do this with all the old shows because they are so sweet and it's a good thing to watch at the end of the day when you're tired and just want something sweet to watch.
How lovely to fall asleep to…
Love this episode Judy
You do a great job narrating it 💕🥰🇨🇦♥️
Thank you so much.
He definitely seemed uncomfortable when alone. Like he needed the admiration of others to feel good about himself.
Seems strange to me that John boy was unable to make himself shoot a turkey, but he seemed all too ready to shoot the fox. Oh well. Such is television.
I thought the same thing.
Could it have been because the fox was a threat to the family's well-being, in that it was killing their chickens? He shot the bear when he had to! The turkey was just minding his own business...🦃🤔
@@kareendelconte - yes - if something was going to hurt the family in any way - he steps up 💛
Another wonderful share l love them all. Keep up the good work. CJ
Thank you so much.
Another great episode.
Thank you Judy.
My pleasure
Yes, honesty is the best policy and laughter the best medicine!! This whole episode is legendary and shows how a person is nothing like the image they portray in the company of others, I know many people like this but have learned not to fall for that exterior gloss!! I loved the storyline of this episode and especially the focus on Jason who transitions into a man in his fathers eyes. Thank you yet again Judy for the wonderful work you have put into this channel and into the series, I am totally hooked. Best wishes from your superfan here in cold England😉
Cool- thanks for your comments.
I wouldn't have been so forgiving towards my old friend, not telling me he shot the family dog and letting Jason take the blame for the fire, but John was a very forgiving person. Great episode!
True. As if John knew Jason would be okay, and was more worried about the future for his friend.
Mama didn’t smell smoke?? Preposterous! LOL!!!! Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching
Great episode. I don't always comment but I'm here! Thanks for sharing this show and behind the scenes with us. You are a blessing to all us fans of the Waltons! See you next time 💙😊
I appreciate that

This is Wonderful Miss Judy 👍🏻😘
My favorite song was harvest moon song! I used to sing it to my residents in the nursing home l worked in. They loved it! and l loved it when you all sang it on the show!!! Mrs. Putnam here!
A great song. Glad your residents enjoyed it.
I always felt sorry for the character "Tip" he had his best days in France. He was trying to live up to and recapture that time. Many people I know are unable to move on from college or High School, the same problem they feel they need to live up to that period in their lives
Sad but true.
Checkers are always a fun game to play
Good one, Judy.
Never seen this episode. Thank you again for sharing you sure have a great channel.💫
Thank you. Hope you get to catch this episode some time.
2nd..! Heyy Judy.....I just love these....always finding out something new....I may not remember every episode - ut I know I watched almost every one...! 61 now :)
So glad you are enjoying these.
I had forgotten about this episode too. Lovely memories. I remembered the fire part when you mentioned it but not the singing lol Maybe one day I’ll get to hear you sing live and hear that segment. Great again, thank you.
That would be nice. Thanks.
Another good one. Thanks
I so remember this episode. Thanks.
Awesome. John boy doesn't miss much.
. Great episode
Very true.
It looks like John Boy was allowed to drink some champagne with the adults in this episode. I wonder what his mama thought of that!
Great question.
I recently watched this episode again, and I too was surprised that he was allowed to smoke in the house.
Not sure that would have happened in later seasons once “ground rules” were established :)
@@judynorton2598 If you can remember back to the episode with the carnival people, Olivia made it very clear that she didn't approve of smoking. That's why I found it so shocking that it was suddenly permitted in a later episode.
Judy this episode was very interesting thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
I love this episode thanks for sharing your memories Judy
You are so welcome.
Watching The Love Story right now. Sheriff Bridges goes to the house and enters through the door near the kitchen. Don't recall a guest ever using that door before. And aside from that John and Olivia did not hear the screen door open before the sheriff arrived at the interior door.
And Judy, you should know better than to have your jar full of tadpoles sitting on the kitchen table at dinner time :-)
Ha, ha- thanks for your comments.
@@judynorton2598 I have an idea for an episode you can do. Tell us a pleasant or funny memory you have with each individual cast member. I know there must be so many, but try to give it some thought and come up with the best.
If you could speak briefly with the cast members who are gone, what would you say to them?
Hi Judy,
I watched this episode last night.
There was a funny line about Mary Ellen taking down her picture of Babe Ruth. 😄⚾️ One of those lines they included that spoke to the times and the character they wanted Mary Ellen to be at that stage. Cheers and be well.
Thank you. Yes - I loved the real life reference to the time period and how they related to each of us as characters
I love watching your videos, I grew up watching The Waltons, I want you to know that as you describe these moments, that I see the youthful Judy explaining these moments. The mind and the heart stay young regardless on onès actual age. I know because that is how I feel.
Lovely perspective
My two pound long hair Chihuahua puppy is always intrigued by the Walton music ( head tilt, ears up, watching the television with me).
Ahh, that's cute.
We love Mary Ellen (Judy) !!!!!
Thank you so much!
I love what you are doing. I watched original airings as a teenager. Love the reruns. Watch all the time.
Thank you!
