Closest I know of was a Spongebob game that I forgot The name of, but .. We did get a DIFFERENT SpongeBob-WarioWare game for the UDraw or 3DS known as SpongeBob Squgglepants! I really like it personally despite it being short so if you have a Homebrew 3DS, go get it you're gonna struggle if you look for a physical copy
Charles is so lovely! Whenever he does signings he does them in character of whatever poster/item he’s signing, it’s so fun! Even if he’s not going to be voicing Mario and co. anymore, I’m so glad that he’s one of the voices of my childhood and truly loves the games and all the fans of them.
When I read the title and I knew this would be based on the "Mario the Man vs Mario the Idea" essay, there was something I immediately began hoping for. as I watched. And I was so elated when it came true and I heard "perchance" right at the end of the video. Schafrillas knows what the people want and he delivers. Truly, he is the Greatest Showman.
The “I’m just gonna make random Nintendo videos” part of Schafrillias’ career is one of my favourites. I hope this video does well since he clearly cares about this a lot.
The whole argument of Wario's public perception of being defined more by his Mario spinoff appearances rather than his actual games, can very much be applied to Donkey Kong as well.
And some characters people know more from games like Smash really, which can lead to many misconceptions because people often just assume things based on what they see at surface level, like people still thinking Dedede's a villain, when the man has helped Kirby and Pop Star far more times than he's antagonized Dream Land without it being a call back of the very first game or due to he being possessed/mind controlled
@@dustymcwari4468 Me playing earthbound for the first time: carpainter wasnt very smart, he could have just threw a thunder at him to destroy me instead of throwing easily reflectable lightings at me My friend who played earthbound: .....how do i explain this (Ik this was mostly talking about mario characters, but still, smash gives a lot of misconceptions and that example was based off real life)
I never expected a character analysis on this guy, but it's well deserved. He may have been intended to just be Mario's evil doppelganger, but he quickly became so much more. The antihero and microgame developer we all deserve. And it's time more people realize it.
There's actually one thing Wario cares more about than money: a chicken named "Hen". She only appears in Wario Land 2. Wario literally stops pursuing bad guys with treasure to rescue her after she got startled and flew away; he's such a good chicken dad.
The way you described Warioware and how Wario went from **evil Mario** to becoming his own self-made identity straight up feels like a Pixar movie plot. The villain who's tired of being the foil and sideman to the main character, and decides to make a whole new name for himself. Almost kind of wholesome.
Wario being the embodiment between a man and an idea is one of his greatest achievement he has ever done, just like Wario Land 4 on the Gameboy Advance.
I went in expecting a shitpost, but what I got was a genuinely fascinating character study on a character I hadn’t given much thought to before. This was pretty great!
Whoever takes over for Wario after Martinet has big shoes to fill, more so than the other Mario characters he voiced, because he really chewed the scenery whenever he got the opportunity, especially in Warioware Gold.
I honestly have been wanting a Warioware cartoon for the longest time, and think it would be an absolute blast to watch. The perspective of everyone in diamond city, there interactions with one another, all of it would be perfect. The volt families game related shenanigans, the Crygors making weird and unconventional machines, Ashley being an adorable and yet creepy kid who just wants to make friends, and of course Wario being the greedy glue to put them all together.
Something you didn’t mention that needs to be mentioned: canonically, Wario is actually a really good friend. All the other WarioWare characters work for him because they genuinely like him. He only gets unpleasant when money’s involved. Hell, this guy never locks his front door so that his friends can come and go whenever they want. There’s even a micro game that somewhat shows this, featuring Wario trying to prevent a bear/door-to-door salesman from getting into his house. Also this has nothing to do with his personality but I also want to mention that he’s childhood friends with Jimmy T
Wario was always a nicer character than what people realize like in Wario land 2 in one level when Wario is chasing after his stolen treasure his pet hen gets scared and runs off and Wario drops everything to get her back to her pen so that she's safe he put his pet over his money. I always wished this was something more explored in other games.
@@INFERNO95 Incorrect, canonically he genuinely considers Jimmy T his friend. Also you seem to have made quite a few comments just antagonizing others, any particular reason you feel the need to do so?
At the end of Warioware Gold it's revealed that he wasn't planning to pay any of his employees. I've heard that Gold portrays him worse than before, but he's still a greedy bastard at heart.
@@zackxeno1019my entire theater imploded at the sight of Wario warioing all over Wario Land. (also my man Wario was the first to say "it's _________ time" in the history of cinema, this dude was the founder.)
Wario is easily the most deep and complex character in the Mario series, and that's *crazy* to me. He's not really even the "evil mario", he's more of an anti-mario. Aside from his first appearance, Wario is generally just a... guy. He's self-centered in some ways, friendly in others. He's got clear, personal motivation that he'll go to whatever length to achieve. He's got a whole separate friend group, a business, hobbies. He's nuanced enough to where you could put him in two similar situations and get a different, but consistent, result. He isn't one-note, he's a symphony! I guess there's something to be said about character flaws making interesting characters. Mario's kinda sanitized, not in the soulless way, but in the "he's the hero, obviously" way. Mario could not exist in real life, but Wario absolutely could. I hope, one day, Waluigi can get the same treatment. He's almost there, he just needs something to call his own to cement it. Not to mention the dynamic Wario the man and Waluigi the man could have together! Maybe someday... Also, just as a side tangent, Wario is kinda like what Luigi could've been if Luigi hadn't taken his role in the shadow in stride. I wonder what evil fucked up luigi would be like? I can't see it being Waluigi.
I drew like a dark, fucked up version of luigi haha. Just a glimpse into my dark reality. A full stare into my twisted perspective would make most simply go insane Imao
My personal image of Waluigi is one that kind of allows for a Waluigi that goes along with how he's never had a game or been more than a sports-dude / party-goer. As Wario is someone who adventures for his own enrichment, whereas Mario is someone who goes on adventures for the sake of helping others, so is Waluigi someone who avoids danger for his own sense of cmfort like Luigi is someone who avoids danger, but still cares enough about others that he gets involved anyway. Waluigi only cares about his own gratification. He will participate in bloodless competition and parties, because then he gets to show-off and lord over others. But help Wario build his games? That's effort that benefits Wario, not Waluigi. Go on bold adventures to gain riches? Yeeeah that's SERIOUSLY gonna cut into his "Waluigi time" so.... no.... He is someone who rejects the call to adventure, and I kind of want to see him in a game where he does EXACTLY that. Like, a Wario game where he maybe pulls his WarioWare crew along, and ever so often Waluigi makes a cameo in the background and absolutely REFUSES to help out. Wario will come shoulder-charging into a bar Waluigi is in because it's being run by the bandit gang who'se stolen something Wario wants, and Waluigi will just be seen in the background casually avoiding all the enemies Wario's throwing around, slowly taking in his drink through a colorful straw, and steadfastly REFUSE to do anything to either help or hinder Wario. When the boss battle happens he just pushes the bartender into the path of either the boss or Wario's attack, and leaves without paying his bill. THAT, I feel, is the essence of Waluigi... though I guess I could be wrong.
Glad I’m not the only one who sees that. And that’s not even mentioning the fact that the guy was probably homeless as seen in Yoshi’s Island DS. Dude is a broken soul.
@@goranisacson2502 That's actually such a good concept for Waluigi, if they ever give him a small role that would be perfect, because it already makes sense with his absence in any main games
Wario World was actually my first exposure to Wario as a solo franchise. I'm glad it was, because it was a fun trip! It even gave us Wario's Back Throw and (sort of) his Neutral B in Smash. Now "Master of Disguise" - THERE'S the one no one talks about. THAT'S the REAL black sheep of the Wario Land series.
Master of disguise was my first experience with wario and outside of sonic it was the first 2d platformer I guu it t into. I wish we had a purple wind smash alt
I can’t believe I actually got emotional at this video. The idea that he’s more known for being the evil version of someone else instead of himself is weirdly sad.
@@INFERNO95 A child of two engineers is not fated to be an engineer. Just cause you were born into a certain role does not mean you are forced into it, or that you can’t grow from it. The idea that a character, even one that is fictional, can’t ever change their roles is a stupid idea. Yes, I’m going this deep on a fat man in a biker outfit who farts a lot.
Everyone knows Wario is cool as fuck. But who knows what he's thinking? Who knows why he smashes bandits? And why do we think of him as fondly as we think about the mythical (nonexistent?) Dr Pepper. Perchance. I believe it was Kant who said "Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play." Wario exhibits experience by smashing bands all day, but he exhibits theory by stating "I’m-a gonna win!” keep it up, baby! When Wario leaves his place of safety to smash a bandy, he knows he may die. And yet, for a man who can purchase lives with money, a life becomes a mere store of value. A tax that can be paid for much as a rich man feels any law with a fine is a price. We think of Wario as a hero, but he is simply a one percenter of a more privileged variety. The lifekind. Perchance.
I like to think of Dr Pepper as an actual doctor with a pepper for a head who prescribes his beverage to people who are tired of colas and root beers. Oh, this is about Wario? Uh, Garlic.
Me and my little brother have been studying Wariology for a while now, and I gotta say it’s really nice to see a video concisely put everything together.
Make Wario the villain in the next movie. Have him be a surly construction worker from Brooklyn who, during the cleanup from the finale to the last movie, uncovers a new portal to the Mushroom Kingdom and conspires to turn it into a resort and theme park where he'll rake in the dough. And yes, I ripped this idea from ChalkZone, what of it 😝
Honestly, very similar idea I also have. Like imagine after the events of the first movie Spike hires some new people, that'd be Wario and possibly Waluigi too, and they learn of the Mushroom Kingdom and in their greed find a way to sneak into the kingdom and take control over large parts of it to get all the riches there, maybe while Mario and Peach are visiting Brooklyn or something like that. Heck maybe Wario could even take iver a good chunk of Bowsers army, causing even more confusion that keeps Wario away from the main target. Maybe Bowser while still captured misheard Wario as Mario while his minions were under Warios control and think Mario somehow took over his army and wanting revenge for it. Like this could lead to a 2nd act fight between Mario and Bowser only to realise Wario was behind the whole thing and having ko choice but to team up temporarily to get Wario out! Like it just seems like such an obvious way to continue after the first movie.
Wario world for the gamecube has serious "some random demo at e3 that never turned into a real game and ultimately became lost media" energy to it, its insane
@@furnoprime9439 Well technically Luigi is just as iconic as Mario, as most people who own a Nintendo console with a Mario game on it, like the Wii and switch know of Mario and Luigi. The Mario series has sold over 830 million copies and the halo franchise has sold around 81 million copies. And you gotta account most people who don't play video games know of Mario because they may have kids or they used to own a NES or something.
In all seriousness, Wario World is insanely underrated. It has some of the most bizzare and terrifying boss designs in any Nintendo game. They're like even weirder version of Courage the Cowardly Dog monster designs. The whole game feels like a fever dream.
I'm a huge WarioWare fan. I use the clocks in Gold as my actual alarm clock in the morning. WarioWare Touched was the first game I ever played, and that song that plays during the intro cutscene to Mona's stage was the first thing I learned to play bass on. Smooth Moves kept me fit during quarantine as I tried to reach at least 50 in all the stages. The music in the games is just so good, and regularly gets me in a good mood whenever I listen to them. This series means so much to me and I can't imagine my life without it.
Tragic that Wario: Master of Disguise is so forgotten. One of my favorite DS games, and it features so much of Wario's fun personality through his dialogue.
0:41 Not sure if anyone's noticed, but I LOVE how "Wario the Idea" is written in the Mario font, while "Wario the Man" is written in the Wario Ware font. Really cool foreshadowing.
Wario is really the perfect embodiment of the Nietzschean Übermensch. He is beholden to no moral edicts beyond himself. He is beyond the reach of any law, whether human or divine. He reigns supreme over his domain; free from the shackles of conventional morality and the all consuming void of nihilism, he is able to forge a new path, to give meaning to life in a way he sees fit. Not everyone can be like Wario, but those who can will be the vanguards of a new age, they will create a world at last where man can be his own master
I would say there are notes of Stirnerism as well. While his existentialism is very apparent, it’s also abundantly clear that he holds no regard for “spooks” (social constructs- not the slur) and instead focuses simply on whatever catches his attention, ultimately serving only his own desires. He is id unchained, a truly beastly man.
Its funny that you don't have much to say about Wario World since that game did such an amazing job at portraying Wario's wacky personality, even down to him being the one narrating the instruction manual!
I love the diverse range of topics you've been covering lately! The Mario Kart rankings, the film analyses....it's all really great stuff and your style compliments it well. Sincerely, A Guy Who Cares About Musicals ;)
It's kinda surprising it never got to be one in Mario Kart Tour. And that game gave Rosalina traditional Volendam clothes, made Pauline a cowgirl, and have _Bowser dressed as Santa Claus!_ Heck, one of Mario Kart Tour's new courses, Ninja Hideaway, has some oddly weird Wario aestherics despite being a ninja-themed Japanese castle. That would've been the perfect opportunity to make Kat and Ana playable, two WarioWare characters that just so happen to be ninjas
He was planned to swap to his biker outfit in Wii the same the ladies do, but was scrapped, which would've gone super well alongside the Wario Bike that did make the final cut
There's also the manga. It highlights how Wario the Man became Wario the Idea, being that in his childhood, Mario and Wario always played cops and robbers. However despite the +200 times they played the game... Wario only got to play as the sheriff once. At that point Wario probably internalized the idea of being a big rival to Mario, dumping his own identity to just be better than him. I'm guessing some time in Wario Land series, which to him would be sort of self reflecting, Wario goes back to being himself instead of trying to be someone else's rival of sprite. Or I'm looking too deep into this.
That stupid comic is not Canon. It takes place after the super Mario adventure comic. Wario not a victim he always was a bad guy that hated Mario cause people like Mario better then him. He will always be a villain so stop using a comic that was made thirty years ago from a defunct magazine.
I definitely agree that the Wario Ware gang should get a tv show or something. The insane variety of personalities and potential interactions between said personalities is a gold mine waiting to be explored
ikr? they made shorts for gold but they were like under a minute and had no voice acting. even if we don't get a full show I'd like shorts that are several minutes, have voices and are fully animated
Wario is not simply evil Mario, he is the Anti-Mario. Mario is selfless, Wario is greedy. Mario has great sportsmanship, Wario is a cheating scumbag. Mario jumps around and uses mainly leg based attacks, Wario uses almost all arms. Mario is vertical, Wario is horizontal. Mario is classy, Wario is gassy. They are true opposites. Evil Mario is a disservice because he is not just “Mario but mean” he is the polar opposite of the Italian plumber. Wario is absolutely awesome, and I love playing as him in every game he’s available. Party, Cart, and even Smash. Wario is a character that lets me laugh when I win, and when I lose. Wario is also the best character to try and do an impression of in the entire Mario series, and nobody can change my mind.
For Schafrillas to say “I wish you guys cared about musicals,” I screamed at the top of my lungs “I DOOO” as if you could hear me through the video. So there’s that for you.
Thanks to King of Skill and the Party Crashers, I’ve become more of a Wario enjoyer as of recently. So I guess if the funny crab man has to analyze any Mario character, I’m glad that HE PICKED WAAAAAAARIO!
Wow, I didn't expect this video to get so deep. I did think Wario's Biker outfit was cool and all, but the fact that it represents Wario outside of rest of the Mario universe's Whimsical Style makes it even cooler.
Up to even the fact Wario and Waluigi only ever work together if their goals match in beating the bros at competitions the bros themselves are organizing, otherwise they don't cross each other's paths As opposed to the bros that care for each other a lot, and Luigi has a presence in most Mario adventures that aren't remakes or rereleases of old titles nowadays, usually as a playable character or a role somewhere in the game, very opposite to Waluigi that's barely a reference at best in Wario's games
Another interesting thing about Wario is that he, in a way, reflects "Mario the Idea" in the sense that Mario was originally supposed to be the type of character that could be put into any situation.
I take a chance to say Wario Land Shake It! is incredibly underrated, the visuals, OST and the portrayal of Wario are all amazing! Seems people really put a red flag on it because of the motion controls. Hope it gets rereleased with normal controls someday

Something thats really great about Wario is that his character is a perfect excuse for Nintendo devs to be creative and experimental, you really see it in games like wario land 4 and wario ware which are filled with crazy, strange ideas that just wouldnt be allowed in a game for other big name nintendo ip’s (except maybe splatoon)
Waluigi is the ultimate example of the individual shaped by the signifier. Waluigi is a man seen only in mirror images; lost in a hall of mirrors he is a reflection of a reflection of a reflection. You start with Mario - the wholesome all Italian plumbing superman, you reflect him to create Luigi - the same thing but slightly less. You invert Mario to create Wario - Mario turned septic and libertarian - then you reflect the inversion in the reflection: you create a being who can only exist in reference to others. Waluigi is the true nowhere man, without the other characters he reflects, inverts and parodies he has no reason to exist. Waluigi’s identity only comes from what and who he isn’t - without a wider frame of reference he is nothing. He is not his own man. In a world where our identities are shaped by our warped relationships to brands and commerce we are all Waluigi.
I don’t know if you’re gonna read this but I must say that I, and probably a big part of this community, are really proud of you. I'll say it over and over again: Warioware is one of my fave series but considering we had so many WarioWare bangers throughout the past decade and a half, not having new Wario Land content in the same amount of time (With us only having Shake It) feels really wrong
Nintendo is kinda overloaded with 2D platformer series, but there's nothing else like WarioWare. I can see why Wario Land has fallen through the cracks, especially after the flops of Master of Disguise and Game & Wario. But hey, maybe Pizza Tower and ANTONBLAST will make Nintendo pay attention.
@@kitsovereign4127 Game and Wario wasn’t tied to Land at all, it was a minigame collection that was changed to be Ware themed relatively late in development. Also a major reason Wario Land didn’t keep going was nobody internally was really pushing for the series’s development after R&D1 stopped being a thing due to restructuring at the company. Master of Disguise was kind of just a thing of Nintendo throwing IPs at the wall with the DS since that was so successful, and ShakeIt on Wii was made to be a sort of revival of the series after 7 years without a proper Wario Land title since 4. However Nintendo barely marketed the game so it didn’t sell much and Good Feel moved on to other IPs, and Wario Land returned to a state of not having any push for the games from within Nintendo or from devs close to them.
Weirdly I think that pizza towers success has helped to bolster Wario and especially his older titles in the public conciousness. its no secret that Pizza Tower is made to be a spiritual successor to the Warioland games, but through that I think its put a lot of people back onto Wario as a character. there has been a lot more interest in the Warioland series around the internet since pizza towers launch and About Wario in general. Hell debatably this video is a part of that.
I was really hoping that this would happen, as someone who was following Pizza Tower during development and as a massive Wario fan. The more Wario fans the better, there’s room for everyone!
Another weird fact is that Wario was originally German (?) which you can see reflected on how he speaks in the first Mario Parties (Oh mein Gott and Zo ein mist) and even the music used for him in Mario Strikers Charged. He eventually got Italinized, as a creative decision made by Charles Martinet himself.
I guess it tends to happen for characters that have broken away from Mario. DK games don't really reference Mario either, I believe, though Yoshi games get Baby Mario a lot.
@@mr.azizsshitposts It's the other way around, he only joins Waluigi whenever Mario reunites them for stuff like racing, parties, or sports, Wario's real life is at Diamond City with his friends And they only really work together when the bros are involved, when their goals align, and while they respect each other to a degree, and collab a lot, their friendship doesn't really go too far
@@dustymcwari4468 I consider them brothers I just imagine Waluigi has his own gig and they only share plumbing career wise, they spend a lot of their time off work during parties or racing
something i wanna bring up is that, if i recall correctly, miyamoto said he imagines the mario cast as “a troupe of actors,” which is why they all play go kart and golf with each other. makes you wonder if warioware is his true life, while the rest is just him putting on a performance
1 other thing I like about Wario in Smash is how his special moves represent Wario the Man, all original based on his personality and/or WarioWare and the normal moves are based on Wario the ideia, since they are exagerated and uncontrol versions of Mario's normal moves, like he is try to copy him. And the Dash attacj is the shoulder bash from WarioLand the only direct move reference is pulling from the middle ground series. Truelly a great character design
Cool to see Schaffrillas do another character anlysis was not expecting one for this guy. Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing another like this but for Waluigi this time, our favorite tennis player and soon to be smash bros champion dressed in purple!
I think if we ever got a T-rated Mario game, Wario should be the star. Wario’s already the anti-Mario. So why not take it to another level by having him star in a game not meant for kids? I had this funny idea for a new Wario Land game having its plot involve WarioWare Inc being blown up and Wario alongside the employees not in the hospital going on an adventure to get some revenge along with earning enough money to get a new building. Also if Waluigi’s there, it’d also be his first day at WarioWare when it blew up. I also had this idea for a fanfic where Wario and Waluigi end up in My Hero Academia and beat up the villains expecting to get money not knowing they need a hero license.
This was a really well written video you made. If I have to choose my favorite iteration of Wario is WarioWare. Everything you said about what Wario is protrayed in ware is so true he really feels like his true character without the evil Mario-ness in him That biker outfit is the true definition of a rough and tumble guy he is I also agree a WarioWare show should be made just watching Wario and his friends in wacky shenanigans would be a delight to see I actually have a Google DOC of a fan list of episode ideas I've made and it's been so fun making them Again great video

(I still have the copy btw 😈 But my older sibling took the game cube when they moved out so I'll revisit it at their house someday)
I was introduced to Wario in Mario 64 DS, and he was awesome there bc he was along for the adventure, but begrudgingly so. He looked like a Mario parody, and whenever he took damage he’d growl at the player! No other character was as funny and absurd, and even though he didn’t have any special abilities, his personality as a judgy, no-nonsense goofball shined through.

With Daisy finally being a playable character in a mainline Mario game, Pauline coming back from the dead, and Wario continuing to establish his own character (hopefully with another Wario Land game someday) I’m hoping this the start of Nintendo realizing just how much the extended Mario cast is loved and underutilized
Not sure if you’re planning on making more character analysis videos, but I really enjoyed this! I’d love to see more Mario character analysis(es? Idk how to spell) but also just other characters from other media. Super cool stuff!

The Wario taking taking over Mario Land section made me wonder, If Waluigi got his own game, wouldn’t it just be Luigi’s Mansion but with a few extra gimmicks?
@@DraftyDaftyHubertOHare i wish elon hadn't made it so that un-signed in users can only get a small sample of content. gimmick accounts like these are the few redeemable parts of twitter.
I think the part that hurts about Smash Wario the most is that, if Wario actually managed to be included in Melee, he would’ve been focused on Land first, and the series would actually maintain more than just a modicum of its identity within the franchise instead of being the flanderized fart mess it’s perceived to be now
Actually, funny thing about wario's connection to toilet humor- that's something that sort of got lost in translation. during a lot of the early marketing in Japan, there was a lot of toilet related humor for wario, regarding stuff like poop. If you're interested in learning more, I would greatly recommend the sourcegaming article "why does wario fart?" that explains a lot of his modern smash representation. That being said, it would be nice to have more wario land representation for him, especially in the case of something like, say, making his shoulder bash a more prominent part of his moveset.
Wario _did_ always have gross-out humor in Japan, but Smash doesn't really seem to represent the rest of his character. He's just this gross crazy weirdo without much of the other stuff that makes him Wario.
Flanderization is a problem almost every Mario character (and most of the smash roster) had until Wii U in terms of character; Mario is always pissed off for no reason, Luigi is “the weirdo”, Donkey Kong is just a screeching ape, Bowser is a ripoff Godzilla with no personality, etc.
@@mittycommitspizzatime92This is why I'm of the opinion that if/when we ever get another Smash game, it should be a full reboot. Since Ultimate's huge roster is a logistical nightmare and they could never replicate it, do something different. Make characters play differently, have a new aesthetic, maybe even change fundamental elements of the gameplay. And if people don't like it they can just keep playing Ultimate or Melee, same as any other fighting game series.
One of my favorite games of all time is Wario Land 2. So I already saw Wario as a separate entity. I remember playing it a lot on my GameBoi. Such a great time. Kinda hard but still fun. Love the multiple routes from that game
R&D1 hit the nail with Wario. Also Wario Land shares some 2D Metroid essence while WarioWare has a common ground with the Rhythm Paradise series. Wario himself can be more multifaceted than Mario funnily enough. Quoting Sideshow Bob for this one: *-Wario:* Aah, Captain Syrup my old arch-nemesis. *-Mario:* I thought I was your old arch-nemesis. *-Wario:* You are not the center of my life Mario. 9:25 Oh yes a WarioWare animated series would be a delight the cast lends itself easily to a slice of life style show.
Schaff, you should honestly make more videos talking about musicals and video game stuff. Not only is there a lot of passion in the stuff that you've already put out relating these topics, but I can tell, especially from the Mario Kart videos, that you genuinely have a lot of fun making these and that you really enjoy these. Keep doing these, bro, cause these are great
I grew up with Brawl and Wario Land Shake Dimension (I am learning from this video that it has different names in diffferent regions!) Wario and I always thought of him as more of his own character than just an evil Mario. I honestly think his biker outfit is just as normal as his overalls outfit but that's just me I think
Fun fact: in his Onward review all the way back in 2020, Schaff showed off a list of videos he was working on and amongst them was a Dr. Doofenshmirtz character analysis. Now yes, that was three years ago and still hasn't happened, so it's likely scrapped, but considering how good this video was, I wouldn't be opposed to him revisiting the idea

Charles Martinet not voicing Mario anymore is a real shame, but the realest shame is that he's not gonna voice Wario. And he was incredible.

Strongly agreed.
It's always great to see my favorite Nintendo character in the spotlight.
It's amazing how much development he got.
He will always be anti-mario.
Agreed. We can all stop this ironic Waluigi praise. Wario has always been the superior Mario franchise character.
There's actually one thing Wario cares more about than money: a chicken named "Hen". She only appears in Wario Land 2. Wario literally stops pursuing bad guys with treasure to rescue her after she got startled and flew away; he's such a good chicken dad.

That's actually adorable
The way you described Warioware and how Wario went from **evil Mario** to becoming his own self-made identity straight up feels like a Pixar movie plot. Whoever takes over for Wario after Martinet has big shoes to fill, more so than the other Mario characters he voiced, because he really chewed the scenery whenever he got the opportunity, especially in Warioware Gold.
Mario, Luigi and Waluigi are a lot easier to replicate from what I’ve seen. Wario takes TALENT.

Wario the idea is perfection, Wario in practice is perfection
Yes
Sounds about right
@OfficerBMTyeah I think lowtiergod wants to talk to you
Wario the idea is perfection. Wario in practice is one of the greatest achievement.
Truly the form incarnate
Evil fucked up Luigi already exists, he‘s called Mr. L and appears in Super Paper Mario.

Perchance.

Me and my little brother have been studying Wariology for a while now, and I gotta say it’s really nice to see a video concisely put everything together.
It’s funny to imagine seeing some guy on campus looking at the colors and just going “warioooo”

All I can say is this theory just reinforces Wario could be a German stereotype to Mario's Italian, hehe.
@@zjzr08 Wario was actually played by a German actor in Mario Party.

The Biker Wario vs Overalls Wario part made me realize how much that needs to be an alternate costume in Mario Kart 8.
It's kinda surprising it never got to be one in Mario Kart Tour. And that game gave Rosalina traditional Volendam clothes, made Pauline a cowgirl, and have _Bowser dressed as Santa Claus!_
Heck, one of Mario Kart Tour's new courses, Ninja Hideaway, has some oddly weird Wario aestherics despite being a ninja-themed Japanese castle.

Since Wario and Waluigi are the anti-Mario and anti-Luigi, you could think of their relationship as being inverted as well
Up to even the fact Wario and Waluigi only ever work together if their goals match in beating the bros at competitions the bros themselves are organizing, otherwise they don't cross each other's paths
As opposed to the bros that care for each other a lot, and Luigi has a presence in most Mario adventures that aren't remakes or rereleases of old titles nowadays, usually as a playable character or a role somewhere in the game, very opposite to Waluigi that's barely a reference at best in Wario's games

Honestly that's what got me into Wario.
@@supercamborg4218 Nintendo has also been referencing Wario Land quite a bit, especially in WarioWare where Cractus even makes a surprise appearance
@@dustymcwari4468 true, but most of the things acknowledging it have happened after PTs full release
Wario is just that lovable piece of shit uncle you see in sitcoms and I love every second he's on screen
I'm loving these off-the-wall video ideas, this is the most I've ever thought about Wario in my entire life
“Look, it’s one of my greatest achievements. Wario Land 4 on the Gameboy Advance.” - Wario (the man)
There's only 2 things you know for sure about Wario.
1. He's Wario.
2. He's gonna win.
WARIOOOOOOO
Schaff, just letting you know, if you want to upload an hour long Sweeney Todd analysis, I’d watch all 60 minutes of that.
Pizza Tower has done alot to scratch my Wario itch.
It actually never occurred to me how Mario does not seem to exist in WarioWare.
I think it’s clear he does exist, it’s just he’s not there as wario ware isn’t in the mushroom kingdom
@Shyontheinternet99 I don’t think it’s a double life it’s just a side gig he does every couple years when he’s done with plumbing with waluigi I a bit
I guess it tends to happen for characters that have broken away from Mario. DK games don't really reference Mario either, I believe, though Yoshi games get Baby Mario a lot.
@@mr.azizsshitposts It's the other way around, he only joins Waluigi whenever Mario reunites them for stuff like racing, parties, or sports, Wario's real life is at Diamond City with his friends
And they only really work together when the bros are involved, when their goals align, and while they respect each other to a degree, and collab a lot, their friendship doesn't really go too far
Wario & Waluigi be beating up MHA fans for shipping Deku x Eri
@HeisenbergTheOGno, you don't.
@HeisenbergTheOGWhat the hell are you talking about?
Are you high?
This was a really well written video you made.
If I have to choose my favorite iteration of Wario is WarioWare.
Everything you said about what Wario is protrayed in ware is so true he really feels like his true character without the evil Mario-ness in him
That biker outfit is the true definition of a rough and tumble guy he is
I also agree a WarioWare show should be made just watching Wario and his friends in wacky shenanigans would be a delight to see
I actually have a Google DOC of a fan list of episode ideas I've made and it's been so fun making them
Again great video
18:45 WARIO WORLD
i had that game! I have vivid memories of playing it, especially falling into the hole with the ghost dogs and the beginning cutscene with the spinning purple gem. I never finished it sadly, but it shall always remain in my mind. I also vividly remember the anatomy chart of Wario in the little booklet and him commenting on his organs, sounds weird but i think its charming as heck!
(I still have the copy btw 😈
But my older sibling took the game cube when they moved out so I'll revisit it at their house someday)
Now this is the content we’ve all been wanting
A totally unexpected 20 minute analysis on one of my favorite characters in fiction God bless you
Extra thumbs up for that profile pic, it's Qwarktastic!
Schaffrillas is just doing whatever the hell he wants and I love it
I was introduced to Wario in Mario 64 DS, and he was awesome there bc he was along for the adventure, but begrudgingly so. He looked like a Mario parody, and whenever he took damage he’d growl at the player! No other character was as funny and absurd, and even though he didn’t have any special abilities, his personality as a judgy, no-nonsense goofball shined through.
The Wario World pause menu is my favorite pause menu from any game by a long shot.
Everyone knows Wario is cool as fuck. But who knows what he's thinking? Who knows why he crushes hearts? And why do we think of him as fondly as we think about the mythical (nonexistent?) Dr Mario. Perchance
i absolutely adore the warioware games so this video really means a lot! the games are so funky and weird, and warios characterization in it is fun. hoping this pushes people to check the series out
Bro I’ve been waiting for more musical reviews from you. You genuinely have such insightful comments and you single-handedly get me to watch movies, musicals, what have you that I’ve been putting off. As a theater kid who is scrounging for content, please do more musical reviews. 🙏 they make my day and I am always rewatching your previous ones
Honestly, i actually really like this character analysis type of video! I'm definitely into long form analysis content (and can't imagine im alone lol), and really like your style of analysis, so I'd definitely like to see more of this kind of content in the future!
Schaff's evolution into Brian David Gilbert's evil twin is amazing
Everyone knows Wario is cool as frick. But who knows what he's thinking? Who knows why he crushes turtles? And why do we think about him as fondly as we think of the mystical (nonexistent?) Dr Pepper? Perchance.
I believe it was Kant who said "Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play." Wario exhibits experience by crushing turts all day, but he exhibits theory by stating "Lets-a go!" Keep it up, baby!
When Wario leaves his place of safety to stomp a turty, he knows that he may Die. And yet, for a man who can purchase lives with money, a life becomes a mere store of value. A tax that can be paid for, much as a rich man feels any law with a fine is a price. We think of Wario as a hero, but he is simply a one percenter of a more privileged variety. The lifekind. Perchance.
You can't just say "Perchance".
To save the princess? Also gross
Wario is absolutely my favorite character in the Mario extended universe, and it makes me so happy to know that Nintendo and others love him too.
Excellent character analysis
Would love to see a character analysis on every WarioWare character 'cause they all deserve one.
As a big Wario fan, I'm so glad that this video exists to inform those who only know Wario in Mario Kart. I always wondered why others didn't like Wario on the same level as I do, but I believe that it's because they've only ever seen the idea of Wario, thanks to watching this video. Thanks to this video, everyone will be able to understand why Wario has so many fans and can hopefully gain more.💛
Dude your musical content is amazing and I LOVE musicals. Ima go rewatch your twisted video just for the love of it and that musical
The Wario taking taking over Mario Land section made me wonder,
If Waluigi got his own game, wouldn’t it just be Luigi’s Mansion but with a few extra gimmicks?
Good lord I love Wario. I have 4 accepted submissions on the Wario Amiibo in Precarious Situations Twitter Account and I couldn’t be happier.

Ok smart*ss, that doesn’t mean we can’t want another one personally.
While it aint wario land exactly there are alot of wario land omages. Pizza tower is a fantastic game
@@ExaltedUriel I think you're on to something
13:14 Wait Wario said 'It's pizza time' before Pizza Tower was even conceived. WHAT.
One of my favorite games of all time is Wario Land 2. So I already saw Wario as a separate entity. I remember playing it a lot on my GameBoi. Such a great time. Kinda hard but still fun. Love the multiple routes from that game
Never clicked on a Schaff video so fast I love WARIO
I've been having an absolutely horrid week but now there's a 20 minute Wario analysis by my favorite video essayist so the day is saved :)
I hope your week gets better!
R&D1 hit the nail with Wario. Also Wario Land shares some 2D Metroid essence while WarioWare has a common ground with the Rhythm Paradise series. Wario himself can be more multifaceted than Mario funnily enough. Quoting Sideshow Bob for this one:
*-Wario:* Aah, Captain Syrup my old arch-nemesis.
One of my favorite Miiverse posts is from the guy that asked "Is Mount Wario a name or a command?"
Please do more character analyses Schaff. I'd like to see more of how you dissect certain characters
He should do Toadsworth, he's been missing lately
Fun fact: in his Onward review all the way back in 2020, Schaff showed off a list of videos he was working on and amongst them was a Dr. Doofenshmirtz character analysis. Now yes, that was three years ago and still hasn't happened, so it's likely scrapped, but considering how good this video was, I wouldn't be opposed to him revisiting the idea
