I went to several sites and couldn't figure out how to program the radio. Then I noticed that you said to erase the frequency that is in the channel first before you can program it. None of the other people on here said to do that. Thanks for telling us that otherwise there was no way for me to program my radio. Nice Video!!
This is the ONLY video I can find that actually explains how to do this. I have a midland handheld here in UK but the menu is almost identical to the Baofeng. Great job bro.
Got the uv5r and uv5ra and this video has helped me programme not only channels in but also enabled me to "watch" both frequencies. Thanks so much, even though this video is pretty old!! All the best 👍
I have a Baofeng UV-5R. When I bought it it came with several NZ frequencies programmed into it. My son got his hands on it and some how had it back on Chinese and lost all the frequencies. Is there someone I can send it to to have it re-set?
Hi, how do you I know which frequency is available or not? Or which is not to use? Also that Repeater stuff, how do i know the right frequency for the Repeater that I need to use? Can I just put any numbers to to it?Sorry, I really don't have an idea.. I would be very happy if you can guide me.. Thanks
Can I install Murs frequencies in the uv5r? so we can talk to each other. And do we have to use ctcss just to talk radio to radio? We don't want to use repeaters.
Thanks Man im here in NZ too trying to save some money for our business. Been on the internet for ages looking around for tips but its seem so much more reassuring in a familiar accent
Great Video that helped me get started....But I can only enter the first 40 Aust/NZ channels...channel 41 at 476.4375 doesn't work...I've tried all the different step settings ....Can you help me please ?
Quick question: I have two (2) Baofeng UV-5Rs. I have them set and programed identically the same in the menu. I also have them on the same frequency. When I transmit from Baofeng radio # 1 to Baofeng radio # 2 it works fine however when I try to transmit from Baofeng radio # 2 to Baofeng radio # 1, the Baofeng radio # 1 will not pick up the transmission from the other Baofeng radio #2. SO I cannot hear any signal/transmission from Baofeng radio # 1. Do you think there is something wrong with Baofeng radio # 1?
thank you for the post. I have a few of these older 888plus for a team of six . I bought a couple of these because i cant find the older ones anymore to replace. Right away i thought these are way to advance for our construction guys but for the money "why not" . I was worried about linking them up too. but after your vid i was able to link these up to the 888 plus with no prob...thanks again!
So this doesn’t work like a regular Police scanner? Looks like it will only pick up 1 or 2 channels at a time? I can scan over 200 different channels every 3 seconds with my current digital scanner
I have a question. I live in a city where the frequencies are in the 800s but when i put them in and put the last number it always says cancel. Can you tell me why?
After I enter a frequency it says "cancel" then automatically cancels. I work at an FBO/flight school at a small class D airport and I'm trying to donate my radios to them so they can tune into ATC. Would these work for that?
Okay, I got that, BUT! How does one input a freq like 27.185? The radio only wants complete 5 digit freqs, for example 127.85. When I try to input that last digit, it says CANCEL to me and throws me out. Any solutions?
Hi just watched your UV5R video and i wanted to know can these be used in NZ on CB/PRS Frequencies and do i just program them like you did above ??? i want to use them for simplex and as a CB when on the road. cheers oh and im also in welly :)
When I did the arrow buttons up and down both A&B traveled together the same now they don't I've touched something unknowingly how do I bring it back to its original
Hi, Im just wondering, what are the settings for receiving transmissions? I have set it up with frequencies but I don't hear anything unless I'm pushing the monitor button and even then I'm not picking up anything.
hi there im wanting to pick up vhf in my boat but the there all preset channels,i dont see the frequency just channel like 73 and 16 are emergency. can i scan for them on a uv-5r.dont want to buy one if its to hard to work out.can i scan like if i call a radio check to emergency service,
When scanning the radio will stop when a transmission starts but will start scanning again before the end of the transmission . How do I set the radio to stay on that channel till the transmission is finished . Thanks
Is this the same as a CB radio? I ordered & just received a Midland portable CB RADIO that is 2 in 1 plug & play. I'm new to this stuff so I dont know much. I've seen where a Ham radio is a bit different than a CB radio. Is this a HAM radio? I'm wanting to find out if this exact one you have would be good to add to my collection? Kind of a doomsday prepper lol. So I've been collecting cool survival type stuff lately. Kinda wanna get the best equipment before july lol. Personal reasons I guess. But any info would be appreciated.
Hi there.. i got a pair of baofeng BF-888s and im planning to buy a pair of Baofeng UV-5R how am i going to program them both each other to receive and send voice/PTT?
To program a UV-5RAX+ you must first delete the channel to be programmed. I had to reset the device using menu 40 and then delete all channels. When you try to delete the final channel 127, it goes back to the welcome screen and reinstates 127 (see later). Go to freq mode and put the desired freq in the A display. The B display will not store. Set to A display and set all associated parameters, such as Transmit CT, offset and offset direction. Then go to menu 27, hit menu, scroll up/down to the desired channel and hit menu again. It will say "receiving memory." Exit and hit the star button to reverse (xmt freq displays). Hit menu and you'll be back in menu 27 at the same channel. Hit menu again and it will say "transmit memory". Exit and you are done. Note that to use these channels without software to program a name, you have to set the A and B displays in channel mode to FREQ. So then you will have the small channel numbers on the far right of the display, with the FREQ displayed. You can use the up/down arrows to scroll the channels in A and B. Not responsible for errors or damage. Your results many vary.
Update. I only had to delete the channels with a CHAN in the name. The rest, which are only numbers, are empty. Looks like the factory reset already has some channels programmed in. After you program in a channel you can delete channel 127 if you want. Doesn't look like channels can be modified in place. You have to delete and add new. A reset affects the language, so you must switch languages using menu 14.
Further update. It seems that front panel programming for some reason doesn't put the offset correctly into the channel. The channels may be ok for receiving/scanning or simplex, but don't seem to work for offset repeater operation from the front panel. If I can make it work without the programming cable I will post.
Yet more. It looks like the UV-5RAX+ does not store the offsets correctly in a channel for minus offsets. It seems to work with UHF freqs with plus offsets. When XCVR is keyed, the XMT freq appears correctly in the display in channel mode for UHF. However, menu 26 shows zeros in channel mode, and after setting confirm it still goes back to zero. To set the XMT freq for 2 meters (after deleting the channel and adding the receiver memory, as discussed earlier), don't use the star key (reverse) and try to set the transmit freq in the channel that way. Instead, go to FREQ mode and set in display A the transmit freq (usually 0.6 Mhz lower). Then you can go to menu 27 and set the transmit memory with what display A shows. Make sure the arrow on the display points to A before you store the freq in the channel. At this point the channel mode seems to work properly in terms of keying the repeater. Good luck. Might be microcode version dependent. Your results may vary.
So I can change the R-CTCS and theT-CTCS as per your video but any time I switch channels or shut to radio off it reverts to OFF. does not save.. please help.
Yes I have a question about the baofeng uv5r. I'm trying to enter 42.5000 to listen to my local CHP California Hiway Patrol, and the decimal point seems to be causing me problems????
Why would the radio continue to scan while the channel is talking? After about five seconds of conversation. The radio continue to scan. I'd like them to be able to finish the transmission, before it continues to scan?
hey how you doing im a new technician and i im having a problem in programming these bands my problem is if i whant to program the 70 cm band and the chart is showing me 420.0 to 450.0 mhz do i have to program the 420.0 and the 450.0 and do i have to program the 420.0 on the top number line and the 450.0 on the button number line display or do i just program the 420.0 mhz and 450.0 will be program along with the 420.0 programming and the 2 meter band do i program the 144.1 and 148.0 or do i just program 144.1and 148.0 will be programd with the 144.1programming please help i looked everywhere can't help on this?? thanks
I happen to have a question. How would you get the frequencies u entered into the channels to know what band it is when its put into the channel. When i enter the frequency it doesnt ask if its uhf or vhf and when i change the band in the menu it stays on the last band it was on. So does the band thing matter or not and if it does how do u get it to know the band for the frequency
Thank you for the great instructions! Is there anyway to program over the existing programmed channels? I would like to use GMRS for channels 15-20 ( 462.550 through 462.6750). Thanks!
Hi i have a Baofeng UV5R i manage to use it with my QD mobile radio in my car, but if i want to transmit from the UV5R to the radio in the car it doent seem to work any suggestions?
Hi, I am wondering before i buy this. Will this radio work with normal channels 1-16 in the UK? I have the other Baofeng radio you are using and it dosnt work but i am wondering if i program the frequencies into the new radio will it work with normal 1-16 channels? Thanks
hey bro, i have the baofeng uv-5r plus but the other guys have this normal talks about like the little ones that use frequencies such as ch-15 or in this case ch-30 , how can I get them to communicate eachother ? cheers...!
Hi, Cool. What frequency is Channel 30 on the other guy’s radios. If you can find this out then all it would take is to enter this frequency in to the UV-5R in ‘Frequency Mode’ and then save the Frequency as a Channel. If you could tell us what the make and model number of the small radios are I could do some hunting if you like. Cheers. NZRadioGuy
I have Baofeng UV-5 here only new to useing it friends have the standard UHF 40 ones you pickup from dicksmiths and other places like that i am looking for a guide on what the fqz are for those so i can program this one to match so i can use this have not been able to find a list anyware do you have a list and instructions that can help
Hi, not sure if the channel is active after all this time but I just got my first radio, same model. When trying to input frequencies I get to the final digit and it says "cancel". Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong please?
I am needing to know will i still have to put in my ctcss number and pl tone and whatever else if i do it the automatic way and have the data imported from a website from with in the chirp softwere
Hi, it is an extra large battery, ‘Jumbo Pack’ they call them. It is about twice the capacity of the regula UV-5R Battery. Thanks for the comment. All the best, NZRadioGuy
Hi mate great video you betcha!!. I have a question I'm a hang glider pilot I have been trying to put in a airport frequency in but wen the last digit is selected the radio says cancel the frequency is 121.300 is this because the radio isn't compatible with this frequency or is it a simple as I have to program the radio for this frequency. Hope you can help thanks Mr Red
What if it doesn't wanna transmit through frequency's. ? Tryed to use it to transmit with other radio but won't let me program only lets me on channel mode
You programmed top freq but not bottom but when video edit got cut to forward step the bottom changed but you did not put how to program bottom one, isnt it a different step?
Thanks for your video. I have three of the UV5R HT's & tried the cheap programming software from China & it didn't work. Then I got the RT Systems software & it's great. Just in case you want to program dozens of chanels quickly. Cheers
great video. i have ordered two of these radio's from ebay this morning. i want to use them primary for my metal detecting hobby. i can keep in contact with a mate on fields when we loose sight of each other.
Hi, Thanks for the feedback… they are a good radio, however, if you are not happy with anything with it (within reason), talk to the place you purchased it from. The quality control is not the best with the UV5R… Nice radios otherwise, many people are happy with them. NZRadioGuy
i was wondering if it was possible to get this to work with normal walkie talkies because i cant seem to get mine on there frequency because even when i enter the frequency for it it then just rounds up to the nearest .025
Hi, Yea, I think I know the problem, my one does this too. I get round it by using the up and down buttons to ‘fine tune’ to the correct frequency. Hope this is of help. All the best, NZRadioGuy
Hi, I have had a couple of simular 5w radios out to about four km over very testing country here in Wellington, New Zealand. However, with other radio equipment of simular output powers I have got up to thirty + km. All depends on the terrane. Usually these radios are sold saying they will do about 12km. The Baofeng UV-5R is about as powerful as most handhelds come. Thanks for the comment. All the best. NZRadioGuy
I went to several sites and couldn't figure out how to program the radio. Then I noticed that you said to erase the frequency that is in the channel first before you can program it. None of the other people on here said to do that. Thanks for telling us that otherwise there was no way for me to program my radio. Nice Video!!
Watching some others they were clicking buttons without saying what they were doing. They only made it more confusing.
After all the videos I watched on these radios your was the simplest and to the point Thanks.
Best explanation of UV-5r radio programming on you tube. Thanks so much from the USA
How would you enter a low frequency such as 45.72?
THANK YOU!!!! The DTR on was preventing me from saving frequencies into the channels.
The most straightforward video on the subject. Thank You
where did he get the 69 number from?
this video was made when i was 6 years old and is now helping me when I am 17 years old. this is absolutely crazy
I have a Baofeng UV-5R. When I bought it it came with several NZ frequencies programmed into it. My son got his hands on it and some how had it back on Chinese and lost all the frequencies. Is there someone I can send it to to have it re-set?
Can you listen to multiple channels at once?
Hi, how do you I know which frequency is available or not? Or which is not to use? Also that Repeater stuff, how do i know the right frequency for the Repeater that I need to use? Can I just put any numbers to to it?Sorry, I really don't have an idea.. I would be very happy if you can guide me.. Thanks
How did you find out the frequency of the other radio channel ?
Can I install Murs frequencies in the uv5r? so we can talk to each other. And do we have to use ctcss just to talk radio to radio? We don't want to use repeaters.
Thanks Man im here in NZ too trying to save some money for our business. Been on the internet for ages looking around for tips but its seem so much more reassuring in a familiar accent
Can baofeng work arcshell radio?
The moust explicite straight forward tutorial on youtube .Thank you.Now i have 2 paired devices working
Great Video that helped me get started....But I can only enter the first 40 Aust/NZ channels...channel 41 at 476.4375 doesn't work...I've tried all the different step settings ....Can you help me please ?
Is there a roger beep on the Baofeng UV-5R?
To clarify...if channel 99 is having interference, you would switch to
channel 95 for better reception?
So I got a question
What is the programming cable for then? I'm super new
How do you lock out a channel on scan mode, annoying interference but do not want to delete. I enjoyed your video.
Have a question some of the keys don’t beep why

Even it is ten years ago. It helps me a lot! Thanks! 😮 Godbless! ❤
Hey there mr radio guy , how do you store a frequency into a channel that has different tx and rx frequencies ?
Thankyou Buddy. Got it sorted Thanks to you 73s from N.Ireland.
Does this work on a Kenwood UV-N98?
After I enter a frequency it says "cancel" then automatically cancels. I work at an FBO/flight school at a small class D airport and I'm trying to donate my radios to them so they can tune into ATC. Would these work for that?

Is this the same as a CB radio? I ordered & just received a Midland portable CB RADIO that is 2 in 1 plug & play. I'm new to this stuff so I dont know much. I've seen where a Ham radio is a bit different than a CB radio. Is this a HAM radio? I'm wanting to find out if this exact one you have would be good to add to my collection? But any info would be appreciated.
Very helpful and simply explained. Great video
Thank you
So easy to follow. Thank you, NZRadioGuy!
How do you know the frequency of the other one when it hasn’t got a screen
Probably using a software and a computer. Cheers from USA 🇺🇸
Thanks for the guide as I had two UV-5X models to tune in. Sorted now :D Again Big Thanks :D
Hi there..
i got a pair of baofeng BF-888s and im planning to buy a pair of Baofeng UV-5R
how am i going to program them both each other to receive and send voice/PTT?
How do you program both 2m & 70 cm on the uv-5r+. I've try with the chirp program but it only loads one .
I HAVE A GT-3 HAD TUNED TO MOTOROLA RADIOS COULD HERE THEM BUT NOT CALL OUT ANY IDEAS WHY
***** Nice, thanks for that. Helpful.
Did this and now my device only has channel 127 and its fucking stuck in Chinese
Excellent vidio..Just watched and sorted new frequency into both my radios...cheers buddy
The other baofang that you used are all of those the same frequency? I have the same set and wanna be able to use them all together as well
hey how you doing im a new technician and i im having a problem in programming these bands my problem is if i whant to program the 70 cm band and the chart is showing me 420.0 to 450.0 mhz do i have to program the 420.0 and the 450.0 and do i have to program the 420.0 on the top number line and the 450.0 on the button number line display or do i just program the 420.0 mhz and 450.0 will be program along with the 420.0 programming and the 2 meter band do i program the 144.1 and 148.0 or do i just program 144.1and 148.0 will be programd with the 144.1programming please help i looked everywhere can't help on this?? thanks
this method worked for the basic 22 channels but i cant seem to save my Environment and Climate Weatheradio. any ideas why or how to fix it?
I happen to have a question. How would you get the frequencies u entered into the channels to know what band it is when its put into the channel. When i enter the frequency it doesnt ask if its uhf or vhf and when i change the band in the menu it stays on the last band it was on. So does the band thing matter or not and if it does how do u get it to know the band for the frequency
Thank you for the great instructions! Is there anyway to program over the existing programmed channels? I would like to use GMRS for channels 15-20 ( 462.550 through 462.6750). Thanks!
Bettina Arrigoni
Just delete the existing channels first.
Thanks
Can i use this for fire and ems scanner?.?
hey bro, i have the baofeng uv-5r plus but the other guys have this normal talks about like the little ones that use frequencies such as ch-15 or in this case ch-30 , how can I get them to communicate eachother ? cheers...!

+Spikey James hey man go to www.kiwiasylum.com/scanning-resources/scanner-frequencys/uhf-prs-frequencies/ they have a chart for nz freqs
do you have a chirp list for nz
Hi, not sure if the channel is active after all this time but I just got my first radio, same model. When trying to input frequencies I get to the final digit and it says "cancel". Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong please?
I can save everything but the offset frequency doesnt seem to transfer over when I save it to an empty channel. Any ideas?
I am needing to know will i still have to put in my ctcss number and pl tone and whatever else if i do it the automatic way and have the data imported from a website from with in the chirp softwere
what is that case type thing you have the radio attached to?
Hi, it is an extra large battery, ‘Jumbo Pack’ they call them. It is about twice the capacity of the regula UV-5R Battery. Thanks for the comment. All the best, NZRadioGuy
ok thanks for the reply.
I have the DM5R is this the same instructions????
Hi mate great video you betcha!!.
I have a question I'm a hang glider pilot I have been trying to put in a airport frequency in but wen the last digit is selected the radio says cancel the frequency is 121.300 is this because the radio isn't compatible with this frequency or is it a simple as I have to program the radio for this frequency. Hope you can help thanks Mr Red
Per its advertisement the lowest capable frequency for this radio is 136 MHz.
@@wesleybuff2536 Thanks mate I found out air band is am so it was never going to work anyway thanks very much for the reply appreciated
do these radios also transmit in the channel mode? what would prevent them from doing so ?
david johnson Hi, did you find a way to disable the transmitter?
+Sabir Ahmed You need to donwload a Chirp software to disable TX.
Hi there i was wondering if you can help us to program the radio to receive chanel 22 from my lorry station. Thx
Hi. Do you still active this yt account? I has questions to ask
Do you save FM stations the same way?
Ah I see you’re from New Zealand. I’m from Australia and I recognised an Aussie accent.
What if it doesn't wanna transmit through frequency's. ? Tryed to use it to transmit with other radio but won't let me program only lets me on channel mode
By chance , do you know how to program the Baofeng 777S ?
You programmed top freq but not bottom but when video edit got cut to forward step the bottom changed but you did not put how to program bottom one, isnt it a different step?
There's any chance to put de Channel name on display without communication cable?
Hi I want to listen to one radio channel without any interference from other radio transmitters, how do I do this?
Good job,,,, what's the title of ur music at the end
quite simple? I beg to differ, but if I watch over & over I can finally get it.
+yec1JF True, I've watched it several times before I can follow it. :)
Hi, which frequency settings that you xan maximize the transmit signal of the baofeng uv5r. UHF or VHF?
VHF is more bendy in open space for slightly better range, but UHF is better in buildings as it belongs to a shorter band.
Informative.. thanks man👍👍
Thanks for your video. I have three of the UV5R HT's & tried the cheap programming software from China & it didn't work. Then I got the RT Systems software & it's great. Just in case you want to program dozens of chanels quickly. Cheers
Hi, Thanks for that, I haven’t had much luck with the programming software so appreciate the tip. All the best. NZRadioGuy
is RT Systems software free?
***** No, not free it's around $50 US.
how do I transmit on the Baofeng UV-5RC PLUS?
How do you save a fm radio station on a gt-3wp . ? regards Allan
How to connect uv 86 to cignus cg-2w
great video. i have ordered two of these radio's from ebay this morning. i want to use them primary for my metal detecting hobby. i can keep in contact with a mate on fields when we loose sight of each other.
Hi, Thanks for the feedback… they are a good radio, however, if you are not happy with anything with it (within reason), talk to the place you purchased it from. The quality control is not the best with the UV5R… Nice radios otherwise, many people are happy with them. NZRadioGuy
they seem in good good working order. very happy with them. mutch better than ordinary walkie talkies.
i was wondering if it was possible to get this to work with normal walkie talkies because i cant seem to get mine on there frequency because even when i enter the frequency for it it then just rounds up to the nearest .025
Hi,
Yea, I think I know the problem, my one does this too. I get round it by using the up and down buttons to ‘fine tune’ to the correct frequency. Hope this is of help. All the best, NZRadioGuy
tnx but i ended up just having my friends use Chanel 15 because it was a number that ended in 000 so it worked great after that and tnx for the reply.
Christopher Hermann Just go to "step" in the menu & change to 2.5.
tnx but i figured it out a bit back when playing with the settings. but tnx for trying. +1
whats the transmit and receive range on the Baofeng UV-5R
Hi, I have had a couple of simular 5w radios out to about four km over very testing country here in Wellington, New Zealand. However, with other radio equipment of simular output powers I have got up to thirty + km. All depends on the terrane. Usually these radios are sold saying they will do about 12km. The Baofeng UV-5R is about as powerful as most handhelds come. Thanks for the comment. All the best. NZRadioGuy
NZRadioGuy . cool thanks for the info
