@@gearupaaron yeah it is great, battery life is still strong, sound is awesome and it powers most everything I travel around with. I have the ifi gryphon and a small schiit magni/modi for use at home - one on my over-crowded desk and one at my listening station.
@@gearupaaron When Im at the desk I am currently driving some Theaudio Ghost headphones but on the move I use the LETSHUOER S12 & KZ PR1 at the moment.

The only thing with using these type of amps with smartphones is, you gotta make sure you have the proper adapter (USB or Lightning for iPhones, etc.) for that phone. But this hipDAC 2 is apparently designed with those in mind, as well, not just using it with DAPs, etc. It would be nice if they supplied a USB and LIghtning adaptor(s), but they are cheaply obtained now.
@@gearupaaron I ended up returning my Hip Dac v2 and getting the XCan instead, it suited my needs a lot better, using either 3.5" or balanced, and the Bluetooth built-in is useful.
Any very good headphone amp should give you at least some improvement in quality and also power, of course, and clean power, hopefully. From what I hear these can drive almost any headphones, even up to 300 ohm highly inefficient phones or IEMs. I just ordered the hip DAC to upgrade from some Fiio amps I've been using for the past six years; they are both fantastic, (sorry one is the new FosiAudio one) but I'm confident this will be an even bigger upgrade in quality.
P.S. Another thing I've learned is your results are dependent on the ENTIRE chain: amp, phones, and source(s). You are going to get better results, also, out of a wired rig. BT and wireless is ok, but you're better off going wired if you can. But this will work for phones too, so that's fine.
Oh man your reaction as soon as you start to listen to the music is mind blowing 😆 is this DAC that good? I'm doing some research on it for my first DAC/AMP to drive my DT770 Pro 32ohm. Would you say it's ok for my headset?
It's definitely able to drive it and wake it up some. And yes, this Hip Dac 2 is fantastic - simple, yet noticeably effective. I'm guessing higher-end cans will need something more powerful, but for most, this is more than sufficient (especially for the price).

Decent product but most definitely not worth it, bought their hip dac 2 and six months later their usb cable started to malfunction and here the kicker..their 'technical support" is non existent, about 7 emails later directly through their website (only way to reach their "support") still getting some robot named jesse to no conclusion, its just a usb cable! Just ship the dam thing! You have my address! Jesus crocks!

i really appreciate you making the comparison and the statement regarding the OG version which I own. I think I will hang on to it!
How long have you had your OG model? Wish they made the blue available on the newer one.
@@gearupaaron over a year, I bought it on sale at Amazon when both were available. It was about $25 less than the v2 Orange version

is this better than a btr15 aside from bluetooth functionality?
Would hip dac 2 power up my DT 1770 pro 250ohm? Im looking for a good amp for my headphones
Shouldn't be a problem! Pardon the late response.
I have the fist gen hip and you are right its not worth upgrading for me but anyone else who needs that MQA crap will find this version 2 a good buy.
Amen to that. What do you use your Hip DAC with?

How does this compare to the Chord Mojo 2?
Aside from the Chord being in a totally different price category? Just saw the MSRP of them... 💰💰

Great tip, Scott! It would nonetheless be nice if iFi included iPhone adapters as well.

What do you tbink of the GTO filter?
In terms of reverb?
Noob question.
Can this be used to link my phone into my home hi-fi?
No noob questions here 😁 Yes, you can as long as you have the same outputs as your hi-fi or use appropriate adapters.
Hip Dac 3 is out btw. I hope to hear your thoughts on it.
iFi is sending one over as we speak, so stay tuned!

Sure, there are smaller DAC-amps, but for the capability, not really.
