    just read so many ridiculous comments on bloodhorse about this race. Nothing but excuses for Mohaymen. His trip was bad, there were some water puddles in the 9 hole, he didn't break, blah blah blah. Just give Nyquist his due credit. He hardly broke a sweat and demolished Mohaymen. West Coast horses will dominate the triple crown again this year

    Happy for Doug O"Neill. He had "I'll Have Another" that had a last minute ankle injury that scratched him from the Belmont having won the Derby and the Preakness. Let's hope Nyquist stays healthy and wins the 3X Crown.

    man!! what an awesome race!! Mohaymen is my horse but that Nyquist is unbelievable!!
    However I've still got Mohaymen in the "run for the roses" . Because horse racing is a lot like baseball (my favorite sport) You never know what's gonna happen. This is too much fun!!

    Love this colt. He's got an impressive work ethic about him. There's a reason Nyquist is still unbeaten, and that's because he's all business when he's on the racetrack. Extremely focused for a 3YO. A lot of people doubted he'd win at Keenland back in October and he promptly went out and took care of business in the G1 Breeders Cup Juvenile. My guess is he was probably doubted even more here in the G1 Florida Derby than he was at Keenland because of Mohaymen being in the field, but today that question was asked and answered. Mark my words, he'll be doubted again when he goes to Churchill Downs, but he'll be right there having his say in the G1 Kentucky Derby too, IMO. Best 3YO colt in America by a stretch. Only the filly Songbird has been more impressive than Nyquist among last season's juveniles and this season's 3YO, IMO.

    Nyquist is getting better every race. People doubt his distance. Well, he looked pretty damn strong today, and other than the drift, he sailed down the stretch.

    After Nyquist veers out he finally gets back on his lead and really takes off the last 100 yards or so......I have not thought he would get the mile and a quarter but now I think he will.

      An interesting thing about him drifting is that MG looked over his shoulder a split second before Nyquist drifted. Was it the look or him tiring that caused the drift. The fact that he straightened back up immediately makes me believe it was the look back.

      Lol. Seriously? If so, Thanks. I have been a fan for over 30 years. I. Enjoy these comments and reading what everyone has to say and giving my own honest opinion. I think it is also nice to put some humor into it too. For me? I am really big on pedigree influences for 3yo contenders. Doesn't work all the time but when u have 20 Derby horses and 10 have the Pedigree to get the distance? That is where u really have to figure it out.

    Very Nice Win For Nyquist. Having him start at age 2 without being injured has giving him a great head start on the competition. There will be plenty of front runners that will give Nyquist a problem in the Derby. Hopefully he gets an outside box or he will be in trouble. To much speed for position. The best horse doesn't always win in the derby!

    Mohaymen is a better horse than what he showed in the Florida Derby. After two monster efforts in a row, the owner don't want to peak too fast before the KY Derby so they probably trained him moderately.

    I have been on Nyquist since his second race as my Derby pick. I should have some future wagering because after this performance, when he looks Mohaymen in the eye for a split second and then puts him away like he is a maiden claiming horse and wins the Florida Derby in hand while drifting, he is going to be the 5-2 favorite, 3-1 if I am lucky. All these so called "horse experts" tell me Nyquist can't get the distance and that is a joke. Uncle Mo was special and so is this 2 year old, he is as special as it gets. He wasn't asked once for anything. And sometimes Pedigree doesn't mean anything, just because Uncle Mo was a better sprinter doesn't mean Nyquist can't get the distance. He wired that field with ease and in my eyes, he willl get the Mile and a half if he chooses to run in the Belmont. IDK how you can watch that race and question if he can get the distance. I had this feeling about a Derby horse once before where I was so confident and it was with Super Saver and he won that race and I got him at 20-1 in the futures for 20$. He was the 9-2 favorite come race day and Calvin Borel did his rail trip and won. I also remember a guy getting that free $10,000 dream bet that day and he picked Super Saver as well and went home with a nice lump sum of cash!!! I just have that feeling again where I think he is the best horse by far and can overcame any trip. Maybe I am wrong but we will see. However, since he is gonna be the favorite, most likely, I'm trying to find another horse, a longshot to put a few bucks on in case I am wrong which happens a lot. My favorite horse ever was Curlin and his son, Exaggerator is running so I'm thinking about him but he hasn't impressed me.....IDK, any ideas?????????

    I just have to say, I have respected Nyquist through his campaign so far and I have a gained respect for him now. However, I don't think we saw the real mohaymen in this Florida derby. I don't know what happened to him but something did. A horse like mohaymen doesn't go from undefeated to finishing fourth. I think we will see a different mohaymen in the derby. A better mohaymen.

  • @bandovreal22
    @bandovreal22 8 років тому

    The Derby as I envision...... Nyquist will hit a brick wall at the 1/8th pole, just as his granddaddy did in 1998 (Indian Chuck). Mor Spirit (who already passed him at the top of the stretch) will hold on, fending off a late challenge from a deep closer (don't know who). Gary Stevens will win his 4th Derby, being the second oldest jockey to win the Derby, and Baffert will win his 5th Derby, 2nd in a row.

    If he get's caught up with the speed ..watch out for Exaggerator coming late . Don't think that style will win him the Derby , but he showed in the Breeders he can come from off the pace . And I think Mohaymen will have another say if they freshen him up.

      Maybe...its the first leg of the Triple Crown and this race has proven to be a knock out for horses who expected favorites sometimes...I always hold me breath during the Triple Crown saga every year....but yes, Nyquist is a good 3 yr. Old. No doubt....I'm Tracking the Kentucky Oaks as well, seems Songbird, an unbeatable Filly by lengths may not compete now due to a low grade fever from an infection that's hasn't been resolved like the connections thought...so, I will be going for RACHELS VALINTINA in the oaks because I was in the Rachel Alexandra club during the Preakness. But Nyquist will be my possible favorite for the Derby but I need to watch the races over to see if I think there is a triple crown winner that hasn't shinned yet...if you remember there were three favorites last year and American Pharoah was only one of them...

  • @papawx3
    @papawx3 8 років тому

    Impressive run, but he will have his work cut out for him against the Santa Anita Derby winner, that horse ran like it had a "warp speed" switch that it flipped on coming down the back stretch-AWESOME RUN, every bit as impressive as American Pharaoh's Arkansas Derby race.

  • @adamrossal786
    @adamrossal786 8 років тому

    Nice and anxious. I like your observation. Not Mohaymens best race. His worse actually. Wide the whole time and bumped early. Couldn't get in stride comfortably. He always has made 2 moves. One before the final turn to get close to the pace then when he hits the stretch he explodes. Just realize he had just run the 2 best races of his life. Horses tend to flatten out on the next race afterwards. But then they rebound better than ever. Great derby this year. Nyquist either pulls a Barbaro and dominates or pulls a Holy Bull and then its anybody's guess. I'm leaning towards Suddenbreakingnews. Ran nice in the Arkansas and will definitely like the added distance. 300 yards is a lot of extra distance.

    I don't see Nyquist even finishing in the money in the KY Derby. Nyquist is bred by Uncle Mo who faded down the stretch in the 2012 BC Classic as the favorite and has never won beyond a mile and a sixteenth. Uncle Mo is bred by Indian Charlie who also faded down the stretch in the 1998 KY Derby as the favorite, and the dam of Nyquist being a Forestry broodmare don't help the stamina pedigree either. I think Nyquist will make a hell of a miler though.

    I'm fairly new to horse racing. Does anyone know how strong the finish time was ( considering rain prior to the races and also how the track was through the day). Also does Nyquist have the pedigree to go the distance because he started to drift outward towards the end but when the jockey shook the reins he responded well plus a decent gallop out.

Not about ability but the female family which to me like many Tapit Horses doesn't poses the stamina to get 10f.

      +John Kaufmann I did a little research on Creator, yes, he can close well and he has two solid fast closing seconds at Churchill Downs. The mile and a quarter could be the difference maker, he'll definitely be on my trifecta box.

    The West is strong again. To be fair, Mohaymen was not his usual self today. Even if he was, he would have had a hard time with Nyquist.... This is the one that got away from Mario.

      Ask this question? What exactly has MOHAYMEN beaten in his career up until today? Serious? FELLOWSHIP? Anybody can beat that horse. When u look at his past performances he has never beaten a good horse. He ran into the 2yo Champ today and he was exposed.

    • @ahmadmallard
      @ahmadmallard 8 років тому +1

      +John Kaufmann Mohaymen beat 2 undefeated horses a while back. The only reason I can give him a pass this race because he finished 4th, not 2nd. Had he finished 2nd, I would be confident in saying that he ran his race and just got beat by a better horse. I do believe Nyquist is the best 3YO, and would have won regardless, but I would have liked to see a the real Mohaymen get tested today. We did not see that today.

    #Kaitlyn. he's not on the same planet as American Pharaoh. all though ap beat up on the same horses keen ice , frosted etc he was might good. my friend owned a 25 per stake in firing line who ran his balls out. being in the middle of bafferts Dortmund and American Pharaoh he ran a mighty race firstly putting Dortmund away and then almost holding off ap who had a great trip. would have been a 6 figure day if he won the derby. after he won his final prep race ( sunland derby ) I was told who ever beats him wins the race. hence we had the exact and the triple ( Dortmund 3 rd) several hundred times.

    It is hard rooting for a Doug O'neill horse because I don't like the guy. I wish someone like Baffert had him but I have loved this horse since I bet him in the Breeders Cup Juvenile and he was 4-5 wide the entire race with both Exaggerator and Brody's cause getting their ideal trip, and Nyquist went on and opened up on the field despite running a good 25 yards farther being so wide and still getting the job done. Exaggerator was fading and clearly loves Wet tracks and if it Rains, I'm using Exaggerator come derby day. But looking back, Broadys Cause had no chance of catching him and Mohaymen was hard to find. Come Derby Day, Nyquist has shown he can win on good and wet tracks and that Florida derby win in hand was impressive. If I get 5-2 on this horse I'm Ok because I think the is that much better than anyone else.

    I don't believe MOHAYMEN can get 1 1/4 miles. He was extremely wide the entire trip. Nyquist with that breeding and drifting out badly I am still undecided if he can get the 1 1/4 miles. With that said? Big effort to travel 3,000 miles and kept company on the front end for 6f

    • @johnkaufmann8875
      @johnkaufmann8875 8 років тому

      +Birmingham Finest Now I read That Mario Gutierrez drifted out by design to keep MOHAYMEN very wide. That was excellent strategy. When u watch the race u think he was drifting badly because he was leg weary, then it was actually the opposite.

Go figure on that. If people want to cheer O'neill on that is fine. We all have our opinions. I will not be one of them.

    There both good horse nyquist got the better trip.The winner got a nice trip with moderate fractions. Connections have said this guy is better than # I'll have another # who won 2/3 legs of the triple crown before being scratch on Belmont day. Trust me neither horse is winning the derby. Good luck to all.

    • @johnkaufmann8875
      @johnkaufmann8875 8 років тому +1

      Yes. Too true. NYQUIST'S pedigree very questionable. Especially the bottom. Dam out of FORESTRY the sprinter. Lucky the field was filled with show ponies today and he was drifting out very bad in the stretch. MOHAYMEN? I question now just exactly what he has beaten in his career up until today. Also TAPIT needs that strong female family. If u look there is not much influence for 10f there.
