Can also be used as a companion to a regular monitor when you do not want a second big monitor for some reason. It's particular suitable to vertical orientation without looking jarring, due to its limited height when put vertical
Looks like exactly what I’ve been looking for! As one of those travelers, pretty psyched to try this out. I’m flying to Antarctica in a couple weeks and I’ll be bringing this with me if it works as hoped 🙂
I am working remotely and my position will soon transition to new responsibilities that do not involve client service on the phone. I'm planning on working in coffees sometimes during the day when I'm tired to be at home. Therefore I'm planning to purchase a portable monitor (we are working with a laptop offered by our employer) because I can't imagine doing my tasks without at least two screens. Thankfully people like you are doing internet reviews so I can see which one would best fit my needs.
Thank you! Did my Mom pay you to say this :-). I must say, I am lucky to be at Dell. They treat me well and by far I have the best job. I love getting to play with new technology and talking with customers.
If you ever do a review of a similar product again, please concentrate on the screen qualities. For example it would have been interesting to see how the maximum brightness of the portable screen compare to that of the laptops. It would have been interesting to see it used outside in shady areas or direct sunlight to see how it reflects. A close-up of the screen to look at pixel density and characters readability would have been appreciated...
Technically you can, however when you stand it up for portrait mode the table hits the buttons on the side. I did it and it powered off the display (because it hit the power putting when I sat it down).
I think Dell is missing an opprotunity to have a battery included in the base. that would be WILDLY helpful for students studying as well as digital nomads working out of coffee shops. the more power I have for my machine to do what it needs to do, the better.
This is essentially the lenovo m14. Look around, you might be able to find it cheaper. M14t is a touchscreen option too with a stylus; that's more expensive though.
@@MichaelOHanian That's interesting to hear Michael. I know you represent Dell, and I know you don't have a crystal ball to predict on what CEO/Senior level management decisions are about other portable monitors in the future. I'm hoping since I bought the dell portable monitor 1st gen for them that there will be an option for a trade/exchange for future portable monitors.
Could you power the display on the second port? If the device you connect to on the first port does not supply power? (Like a Nintendo Switch or a HDMI to USB-C cable)
@@MichaelOHanian Would an adapter like the "Dell USB-C to HDMI/DP with Power Pass-Through" work basically in reverse where you take HDMI input and USB-C power and output power and DisplayPort? Or have you found such an adapter that works like that? HDMI input would be really nice to have.
I am a computer science student, and to work with a secondary screen increases my productivity a lot. For this reason, I am planning to buy this portable screen. However, I have a question about the product. Can I use it with my MacBook Pro?
Does it works with Mobile Desktop mode, such as Motorola? I have a Moto G100 and ready for cable is USB-C x HDMI. I'm wondering if USB-C x USB-C cable will enable desktop mode on my device or if it will only mirror the mobile screen.
Not sure. I worry that the G100 does not have enough power to power the display. I have to send the C1422H back but I am getting another one in. When I get it, I will test this. Stay tuned.
Yes, as long as you have the USB-C ports. I use the Precision 5740 and have 4 USB-C TB 4 ports. I can connect 4 of these displays to it. I personally have 3 of these portable displays and have hook all three of them to my system.
I use two of these plugged into my Latitude 9k 2 usb-c slots and I was able to use the power pass through and plugged in my Latitude 9k power adapter into the other unused usb-c slot on either of the portable monitors and it charges and powers both monitors and the laptop. Means I don’t have any extra power cables or usb-c adapters or splitters (Full disclosure: I work for Dell Technologies)
@@tanle7162 worked fine for me for dell laptops (xps13 and latitude 9k) and newish MacBook. One note though: I connected two of these portable monitors to my latitude. Only phone I have been able to get to work with it is Samsung. Samsung has a software on the phone call DEX. It allows you to use and external display and turns the phone into a touchpad/keyboard. Very cool.
Got one of these, great product for travel and on the go in Hotels when you need a secondary screen (powered through usb-c). I always have to be careful with this during travel as I do not want to damage it :) Wished there is a self power option than I can utilize a hdmi to usb-c adapter attached to a gaming console while on the go...
This portable monitor is compatible with any other laptop brand, right? As long the laptop got USB-C port? Btw, thanks for creating this video coz been eyeing this portable monitor as secondary monitor for office use
Tested this last night. No iPhones don't work. However I did test a Samsung phones with DeX and does work. Turns the phone into the touchpad and keyboard. Very slick.
Half of the video in and I know more about this man's life story than I do about the product. No offense man, but don't think there'ul that cares about your hotel and travel habits. The viewers of the video already know want they are looking for. Perhaps a very brief comment about how you're using it and you could have spent WAY more time discussing the product's specs. This is a 95% fluff piece and could have easily been distilled in to 5 min tops. Some better closeups and again, drastically reduce the fluff focus on the product like a laser.

Excellent point!
That monitor seems very useful and practical.

is it possible to connect the display with apple devices?

If using Mobile Desktop the software may not allow adjustments since it's considered a "remote session"

How do you put it in Extended Mode? It's stuck in Mirror Mode.
Right mouse click anywhere on the screen. Select "Display Settings". You will see a drop down for Multiple Displays. Select "Extend these displays".

You're welcome! It uses standard industry connections (USB-C), should work with any system that has the connection.

It does with type-C input port. It is also compatible with iPad Pro. It is not compatible with iPhone
It's good for software development

Will, Search the web for ECoupons. Dell.com usually allows you to stack them.
