Winter is coming, y'all! Huge thanks to ABC 33/40 chief meteorologist James Spann for being our special guest star! Like our Facebook page! / itisasouthernthing
South: shuts down schools, closes stores, goes in basically a lock down for 1 inch of snow the rest of the USA: casually pelting others with snowballs from a 13 inch pile of snow while in a hoodie.
Yes but do get to have a snow day from work? That’s the beauty of snow down south well lock shit up just to enjoy it...that and we never bought any snow equipment
Bay That's exactly what happens! I've actually seen someone fight over the last loaf of a certain type of bread in Walmart one time. Everything else was already gone.
I didn't even recognize James Spann! And I remember watching him back in the '80's when I lived in Birmingham. I think my sister may have gone out on a date with him way back when. These videos bring back such great memories.
I live on the Gulf Coast. Northern transplants do the same when a little Category 1 hurricane rolls into town. Calm down. It'll be fine. A true resident of South Alabama sits back and enjoys the sound of rain on a tin roof.
I'm from Chingago, and while 1" of snow is nothing up there, down here in Gnashville with all the hills, it was treacherous sledding - literally - for me!
first I'm LMAO (in a northerner) but then remember we go thru the same motions with the winter "nor-easter" storms (of course it's more than an inch of snow, more like a few feet!). 😉 loving your vids.
Roflmbo! Brilliant! Can't believe I missed this when we actually had that snow but it was a pretty significant snow storm that we had here in Alabama in December. Love you James!
LOL!!! Amazing video guys! But if we had an inch of snow where I live, in New York, it’d be pretty average and boring. A foot of snow is REALLY when it starts getting fun.
In 1988 made a delivery in Knoxville.... when the city was waiting for 1" of snow. Boy were they freaking out. Shut the city down. Came in from Michigan.....1" is water here.
Northern Wisconsin in February temperature -53F, windchill -98F school is on you pansy.18inches of snow in 10 hrs get to the end of the driveway and get your butt to school. The only thing that reliably gets school cancelled is icy conditions (snow melts during the day but there is a hard freeze at night)
Snow in the South always brings icy conditions. That's the difference... it may be that cold in the North, but that means the snow mostly stays snow. When snow hits in the South, it's frequently barely freezing, meaning the early snow turns to ice before any more snow starts piling on top of it.
I don't even live in the USA, let alone in a southern state, but I have an affinity with this channel with all its hilarious video clips. It goes to show that a sense of humor is universal and it always manages to crack me up😁😁😆
here in Michigan i have walked three miles to the store for groceries because we were snowed in with a couple feet of snow in a few hours. It's always fun seeing southerners up here during winter, they go nuts.
I would love to see you Southerns be up here when we are getting at least three inches of snow up here. And see what your reaction is when you find out that our kids stay in school during that mild of a snowfall.....
Very true. We just had a few flurries fall in Raleigh early this morning, & it melted away before sunrise. Nothing stuck. Schools were delayed 2 hours this morning. Orange County(where Chapel Hill is located) closed their public schools completely because they had a dusting. January 17th had a major snowstorm here. 4 inches hit my suburb, but Durham got nearly a foot of snow. Schools were out the rest of the week, & it all melted away 5 days later.
Emilie Smith Being that I've lived in the south my whole life, what you just said blows my mind. I would really love to see that in person because it just sounds so unbelievable to me.
Same in Maryland. Snowing in March? Normal. Last time school was closed due to snow was last year when we got 1.5 feet and all that happened was a 2 hour delay. Didn’t even close.
You dang right, he said a FULL inch, we could be snowed in two or three days. And don't forget the Blue Bell. Get some water too is gone be 70 next week.
There has been less than an inch of snow that came down and school was closed, and when it snowed more than a few inches DURING SCHOOL, all that happened was shorter recess 😂
Found this on Labor Day as Hurricane Dorian is approaching Florida. Because of that, I found this WAY funnier. The panic purchases which I've done before. Hope it stays on it's currant path and doesn't make landfall
So true if a storm is coming the stores are packed the south is really like that when I lived in the north it was business as usuall. We walked to school in 5 feet if snow.
I used to live in Colorado and my family moved to Texas we got not even a half inch of snow and everything was shut down I got so confused because I have had to go to school in around 7” of snow granted my school got snowed in and I had to stay at my school for over a week but it just confused the hell out of me
James Spann making fun of himself. Just adds to his greatness.
How to interpret James Spans weather report:
suit jacket on:all good
Jacket off: rough weather
Tie off and top button undone: get to the storm cellar
I thought it was 'tie off - get to the cave in the hills'.
Sleeves rolled up: Even a storm cellar won’t save you
As someone who grew up watching James Spann, this is 100% fact.
You're not calling the dogs in with you?
You're really a transplanted Yankee,aren't you?

@@boomer0117zr Could never afford to do that where i live, we'd be shut down half the winter.
But like in the north if it gets to hot theyll shut down schools and stuff sincce they dont have ac soo?
@@cheyannecollins4774 very rarely. I don't recall the last time. I live in Maine.
@@cheyannecollins4774 I’m we don’t have school in the summer.
I laugh no matter how many times this skit pops up. Mr. Spann is a legend in Alabama meteorology. Thank you for this video IAST.
South: Aaah!! A INCH OF A SNOW
Northeast,Northwest,Midwest: You
guys are cute
When you have no way to clear the roads an inch might as well be 3 feet.
@@aislinngraves4291 You need an inch of snow cleared? Your tire tread is deeper than that.
Not as cute as northerners when they panic over an 85 degree “heat wave”
@@Emerauldy An entire Northern state doesn't shut down over 85 degrees...now do they?
I love this comment thread 😆
As a Northerner turned Southerner...these are both valid arguments 😆
LOVED the cameo by James Spann! An Alabama legend in every sense of the word.
James Spann: Greatest Weatherman.
LOL LOL I just love this!!!!!!! It is so so true, call for snow and Milk and Bread is gone in just an hour. LOL LOL LOL
Bay That's exactly what happens! I've actually seen someone fight over the last loaf of a certain type of bread in Walmart one time. Everything else was already gone.
LOL LOL to funny
I don’t understand the milk, though. If you lose electricity (which happens with weather) you have no way to keep it cold.
@@Sabbathissaturday You can leave it in the garage, on the porch, etc. it is cold outside.
This sketch was actually genius. I'm from St. Louis and moved to SC 6 years ago and people here freak out over a little snow.
Me, a midwestern: LMAO I WISH WE HAD A HALF INCH OF SNOW AND CONSIDER THAT A SNOW DAY
You forgot to add Stocks for Toilet Paper and THE GOOD BALONEY...lol
Oh look at you!! Getting all the fancy good baloney like some rich folk! We got PB&J and are just fine with that!
IS there such a thing as good Baloney?
Congratulations on being psychic
This didn't age well
@@samiam619 Of course there is. Its behind the glass in the deli section.
Happy to hear James Spanns wife made it through the storm today. His composure on air is beyond professional.
🤣 James Spann is a great man for so many reasons. I'm rollin'!
This is how James Spann buys his suspenders!
I didn't even recognize James Spann! And I remember watching him back in the '80's when I lived in Birmingham.

James span is amazing!!
James Spann is the number 1 weatherman !!!
I love James Spann!!
Yae, James Spann!!!! 💖🤗
I can't believe yall had the greatest meteorologist of all time on yalls video.
James Spann is the king of meteorology.
James Span goes to my church he's a great guy and weatherman
Lucky
God bless James Spann.
The purchase of milk and bread is universally required in the case of snow in the South. Some local rules require the purchase of toilet paper too.
When it snows here the liquor stores get busy. The south is so wholesome. 😆 bless their hearts.
Lol this is so true! Here in Virginia if there is even an inch of snow the entire state basically shuts down and school are closed.
Imagine what it's like here in Florida xD
Icybubba Lol do y’all even get snow 😂😂
North Florida got some snow this year, some
After the snowpocalypse we had a few years ago here in GA, it really gets crazy.
Icybubba Ohhh yeah I heard about that
I have not lived in Birmingham for over 30 years. I'm so happy to see James Spann... He knows how to keep a sense of humor.
Love James Spann! He's the best weatherman in central Alabama!
Hell you know he's the best weather man ever! He just happens to be here in Alabama

Just goes to show that Southerners have a great sense of humor. 😁
Oh my goodness it’s James! This is the best feat ever! I got nervous when I seen him without a jacket though *flashbacks*
All the businesses and public institutions are shut down but the Alexander Shunnarah signs will still be standing!
this is the best! thank you ! James Spann the boogie man of my sons weather nightmares
I worked at a grocery store growing up, and the runs before a winter storm were something to behold.
James Spann!!!! Love it!!

Now y'all forgot the eggs!
And canned milk for snow cream!
lol then the midwest is like- oh 2 feet of snow and -22f yeah you still have school😂
Still school

It’s coronavirus so since schools at home now snow and cold are irrelevant.
James spann is the greatest weatherman and most famous weatherman in all of America. Sweet home Alabama😂😂
Ahh james span i grew up listening to that man ❤️
Everyone loves James Spann!!!!!
Yep. Who doesn't?
Yup, true, shut down everything. State of emergency. Not even a joke. It's how we do a barrel roll.
James enjoyed doing this. I hope that there is another one.
James Spann is amazing! He came to my school!!
That’s pretty good acting. With a voice like that James Spann was destined for a career in broadcasting.

In Indiana there’s ice and like a few inches of snow and there’s schools without two hour delays 😂
Well they close down for snow in alabama.
You live up north we don’t

Up here in Pennsylvania--there will be one foot of snow...
School as normal!

For a long time in NYC, 18 inches was the threshold to close.

I live in Georgia this blows my mind
once we didn’t have school because it was supposed to snow but the weather was quite nice
y'all should do a part 2 for hurricane season.
Like when it rains in Southern California. The news covers it like it’s a major disaster! 🤣🤣🤣
Covered by Dallas...Raines.
I routinely LMAO at this channel but this might be their funniest video. Bonus points for Alabama legend James Spann.
You dang right, he said a FULL inch, we could be snowed in two or three days. And don't forget the Blue Bell. Get some water too is gone be 70 next week.
its always the same thing up here in Pennsylvania. When people hear about snow coming there goes the milk and bread
Too funny! James still has a sense of humor!
James Spann??????? For realz?????????
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!
I live in SoCal. James Spann is a legend. Maybe second only to Gary England.
Okay I just found this, even without a picture I would know that man's voice.
Aint no videa a southern videa without Talia Lin in it, bless yer heart
There has been less than an inch of snow that came down and school was closed, and when it snowed more than a few inches DURING SCHOOL, all that happened was shorter recess 😂
The one way Maryland is southern is this, we close everything down for even a bit of snow
It’s ironic that this video happen to show up in my recommendations a couple days after a lot of snow hit us in Texas.
Found this on Labor Day as Hurricane Dorian is approaching Florida. Because of that, I found this WAY funnier. The panic purchases which I've done before. Hope it stays on it's currant path and doesn't make landfall
That was hilarious well done

I can't believe they actually got a weatherman to do this video !
So true on many levels.
I live in the north. When we get 2 feet of snow, we don’t even think twice!
We would have a lot of deaths here with that much snow.
NAILED IT!!!!!!!!!! sooo true
*gets one foot of snow in Minnesota* my boss: You better get your ass to work!
How did I miss this???
Never gets old😂
I love it. Southern heroes ❤
I have ten inches of snow at the current moment, and at some point two weeks ago I had 15. I wish my county was like this
THATS JAMES SPAN THE WEATHER MAN
Omg...YESSSSSS!!!
