Sam Houston National Forest

This week, we visit Sam Houston National Forest! We travel down a dirt road to park at the Big Creek Scenic Area and set off on a family hike. We hike along the Lone Star Trail, the White Oak Trail, and a very short while along the Big Creek Trail before returning to the parking lot. We love this beautiful area of the Sam Houston National Forest. Every time we have visited, it has been very peaceful. We recommend this area if you are looking for calm (and free!) hiking trails near Houston, Texas!

Looked like a fun time. I've been thinking about visiting the Sam Houston forest for quite some time. Sounds like the perfect late winter place to camp.

We really like the the Sam Houston National Forest! We had camped for about 3 weeks in the Double Lake Recreation area in the winter about 10 years ago when we had our travel trailer and loved it. We definitely recommend it!
