    The charge is great. It is what it is, for what it is. Thanks for your thoughts.

    One thing I noticed when I got my second charge ti and was going to carry one and collect one, is that the wave frame is actually stronger because it has the additional brake on each handle (and that is per side) but this shouldn't really matter unless a person is abusing the tool.

    I was thinking about getting the Charge Plus TTI for the S30V blade but watching this video convinced me to get the standard Charge Plus because of the pliers without the crimper and that the blade on it is good enough.

      I went the same route . The Charge+ just arrived from Leatherman and it's awesome.Might do the TTI later just for the hell of it. The 154CM blade looks like it came off a $200 knife.

    You got "shafted" 😂...I feel your pain dude! I get shafted a thousand times a day as I am a golf mechanic that has/does work on everything. And "the system" effs you cause it can. I got "shafted" years ago when I tried to use my original pst to remove a top post battery terminal...son a bee, man the handles cut into my hand big time...I loved the pst, but I quit edc'ing it because of that type of thing. Now I edc my charge ti, but it has the old style plier head (not with the blasting cap crimper).

    That was really interesting and a well done review. I own the surge myself but your review was very interesting to me.

  • @stugumby

    Said it is what it is more than 7 times. Also there seems to be concern over the plier heads being thinned at the shoulders due to the replaceable cutters. Rebar , signal both have wider shoulders on the plier heads, time will tell with potential breakage from people trying to cut barbed wire etc. it seems charge is a better deal due to accessories.

    Charge Plus stands for, Charge Plus replacable wire cutter. Great video, I have the Charge Tti Plus and a few other Leatherman's. If I could only keep one, I'd pick my Surge without hesitating, then the Crunch.

    Do we need replaceable cutters on a tool with a 25 year warranty? Now we pay to replace them instead of Leatherman.

    I simply hate wire crimpers on the pliers and gutting hook on the serrated blade.

    Id buy a charge but I hate hate hate the eyeglass screwdriver. I like that the surge doesn't have it but it weighs a metric ton. I wish leatherman would let you design your own charge on their website by letting you add the tools youd most likely use in your own personal application. Id be all over that even though it would cost more.

    Hi sir, great video.
    I wonder if you can answer me something, i have a Leatherman Charge+, but i broke the file, mi question is, do you know if i can put the blade exchanger of the surge instead of the file? as of that i can have even the file but more options to change the saw? i know that if this is possible i will have to take of the file to close because the blade exchanger plus the file or saw will be larger than mi Charge+, but is not big deal for me, i only need to know if the bale exchanger of the surge fits on the file´s place in my Charge+.
    Thanks a lot for your help

    @1:30, you need to look at the instructions and tool specs. There is a crimper exactly where you want it.

  • @neeko7878
    @neeko7878 5 років тому

    The Charge series, TTI, ALX OR “+” versions are geared toward electrical work/industry. The crimper is where it’s supposed to be. Behind the plier head sucks. 👍😊.

    • @intelligentunite4557
      @intelligentunite4557 5 років тому

      Nick Navarre Its not a normal electric crimper. Its a blasting cap crimper, for those 0,000000002 percent of people who deals with bombs.

    • @neeko7878
      @neeko7878 5 років тому

      Intelligent Unite- You are incorrect sir 😊. It is not an EOD crimper. That is only found on the MUT EOD model. The crimper built into most Leatherman will crimp house hold electric crimp caps or grounding caps. You may be thinking of more of an insulated automotive crimp connector. Although they are not made for that... I have used them for that exact purpose a few times and they do hold securely. My father works for Leatherman Tool and I have owned these tools for years.

  • @mikeespineli5288
    @mikeespineli5288 6 років тому +1

    Do any of your outer tools have play? I noticed on my charge plus, the thinner tools (saw and file) have play. Up and down not side to side. Specifically the file has a decent amount on my copy. Im sure it doesn’t affect the use of the tool just want to know if Leatherman during QC allows minor play.

    • @mikeespineli5288
      @mikeespineli5288 6 років тому

      Enough play when I shake the tool when the file is open it clicks.

    • @GearNut
      @GearNut  6 років тому

      Mike Espineli mine do have some play and I am not worried about it. The only problem I see with that is when resharpening the blades.

    • @tomasdeleondominguez7693
      @tomasdeleondominguez7693 3 роки тому

      My charge tti purchased 14 years ago has no play in the outer tools. Pliers are smooth and rock solid. It still works as new, but same has not been abused. Very little corrosion. I used to edc it in my pocket for years, but then I decided to go after lighter, independent tools, and it is now in my tool box.

  • @victorediaz1

    I 'd buy the wave plus in a heart beat if it came with a 154cm blade. The biggest gripe for me with the original wave was the cutter teeth, but having to constantly sharpen the 420 blade is a bigger pain in the butt than it is to avoid cutting hard metals. I'd buy the Charge Plus but occasionally I like to use my wave to beat on things and I dont think the plastic Charge would hold up.

    • @blizzbee
      @blizzbee 4 роки тому

      I think there is not any plastic part in the Charge model. The black scales are solid anodized aluminum.

    • @GearNut
      @GearNut  6 років тому

      H Faour I have not had to tighten the fasteners on the Charge ALX yet. But if you need to it is easily done with two pliers.

    • @250rapid
      @250rapid 6 років тому

      Nope, I do not recommend pliers!... It is not that easy to do it with pliers because Leatherman use red Loctite to secure the pivot screws in place making them super tight and the pliers will damage and ruin the knurled round head, plus you will scratch the hell off the nice black oxide finish. The best thing to do is to purchase a set of 2 small wrenches on eBay ($20) specially laser cut to fit the knurled head of Leatherman multi-tool pivot screws, they are always good to have in case you want to tighten or loose the screws or to keep doing different modes.

    • @BlueCuddlefish
      @BlueCuddlefish 6 років тому

      Do you happen to have any links to the wrenches or any pictures, didn't seem to find the laser cut kind you were referring to but they sound super useful

    Any idea how to replace the eyeglass screwdriver if it breaks off and there is nothing to grab onto to pull it out?

    • @GearNut
      @GearNut  4 роки тому +1

      I used another leatherman to work it out from the holder where the spring is. You can use some tweezers and another small screwdriver as well. If it snapped off it is more than likely bent so it will take some effort but it will come out.

    What about sharpening the 154CM blade comparing to the 420HC blade?

    • @GearNut
      @GearNut  6 років тому +2

      H Faour the 420hc is faster to sharpen but it’s edge wears away quickly. The 154cm takes longer to sharpen and I would recommend using diamond stones then switching to ceramics on the finishing end of sharpening. But the 154cm does last noticeably longer on edge retention.

  • @TheDigitalcrack
    @TheDigitalcrack 6 років тому +4

    154cm is better than s30v. I don't know why people keep assuming that it is. If a blade cuts better and smoother and is easier to sharpen ..then it's better. Just because the s30v is harder doesn't make it better. Test after test is done on youtube and every time the 154 holds his sharpness better and longer than s30v and even keeps smooth cuts over toothy cuts.

    • @GearNut
      @GearNut  6 років тому +1

      Marcin Sojka ok I get what your saying. I just looked at the charge plus and the wave plus. If your buying it for the crimper I would get the wave plus because the charge aluminum handles get in the way of that crimper big time. I really don’t like these type of crimper because the raised part is not high enough to get a good crimp on wire quick connections. But they work great on fishing split shots.
