  • The Navajo Puberty Ceremony celebrating maturity of girls among the Navajo is held generally on the fourth night after the first evidence of the maiden’s entrance into womanhood. On the first morning following the moment of this change in life the girl bathes and dresses in her finest clothes.

Changing Woman is thought to be a prominent female deity that changed humankind in the Navajo creation stories. She stands for the ideals of Navajo women. She embodies beauty, strength, generosity and humanity. So, to honor her and the Holy Ones, this Navajo puberty ceremony continues today.

2nd set used for the kinaalda, a set of main songs. Somewhat Agreeably that other hoozhiji songs could be out for public but when it comes to MAIN sets used. It’s disagreeable. And if it’s a response of “it’s used for new generation learning”. This set is 12 songs that could be learned through the first portion of attending. Main set of songs that should be respected. Bahastihx (risky!)

Bahastihx is more, fragile to mess with. Especially to the patient. Gotta be careful.

These songs are very sacred and aren’t meant to be recorded or audio recorded, even if you are Navajo this is disrespectful to our ancestors and these songs are not to be out in the public

I just randomly found this song on my feed and was reading the comments, interesting how some folks like that this is shared but others don’t like it
To me I think it’s good to share and provided publicly because traditions are slowly forgotten and not practice and if songs like these for sacred ceremony are not recorded or shared then it’ll be gone forever. That’s just sad in my opinion
But what do I know.. I’m just a random person on UA-cam 🤔

Please take this down, these traditional songs should be sacred and not be public. And should be only used in ceremonies

These songs are healing and strengthening songs for the people. I don’t remember hearing stories of the Holy People telling us not share our culture with others. In fact I’m sure they’d want us to share these songs so everyone can find Hozho and walk in Beauty.

@ponakisoonkumteanu yes they do but in a respectful matter, things like this shouldn't be on social media and should only be shared sacredly in a hogan or wit a medicine person. These goodway are for abt house, animals and other things to bless their home and them

@@rryyxannn You were taught one way and I was taught another way. I was taught we should help others in need. We are all one people, and we thrive when we help one another. It doesn’t make sense to gatekeep healing songs from the people. Many of our traditions have been adopted from other cultures, especially from our kind Pueblo neighbors. Our children are mixed with other nationalities, So I refuse to believe the Holy People discriminate. The world is ever changing, and we as a people are trying to adapt. Sharing a sacred song is us adapting to keep these songs alive and going. It’s hard to find decent medicine men, many of us had our grandparents taken too soon, or were converted to other religions. Sure, learning these songs with a medicine in a hogan is ideal, but not everyone has those same opportunities.
