Gervais and Merchant returned to Xfm in August 2001, after the first series of The Office had been broadcast. However, the earliest surviving radio broadcasts are from November. Xfm brought in Pilkington as producer.[8] The show was originally just billed as Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, and Karl's presence was not acknowledged on posters and other advertisements. Gervais and Merchant would speak to Karl about his thoughts on whatever they were talking about. In 2003 Pilkington was officially added to advertisements for the show as over the years Karl's role on the show became more prominent as Ricky and Steve were finding more amusement with his views and personal life. As the producer, Karl had input with features such as Rockbusters, Songs of Phrase, Do We Need 'em, Knob News, Cheeky Freak of the Week, Monkey News and Educating Ricky. Their last show for XFM aired on 2 July 2005, after which they chose to switch the show's format from radio to podcasting.
Sometimes I'm listening and smiling at the banter and then I remember that Steve and Ricky don't talk anymore and I get kinda sad. Anyone else?
im sad that they no longer collaborate, and also, the amount of content that could've probably made a few more series of the animated show, that the makers just let slip and forgot about, that saddens me too

@@noka1979 not saying Karl is stupid, but anyone could have got a job as head producer for xfm. Pressing buttons at the right time and making edits isn't really that difficult
@@Christoff070 Karl actually did a fair bit of work at xfm, making jingles and adverts for everyone on the station. Don't forget he was there for like a decade as a 9-5. If you listen to his audio treatment during his "karl in a film" bits (looping excess audio over himself cleanly etc), he did know what he was doing when it came to mixing and audio.

@@Beardshire you didn't explain it but no, he doesn't quite do that. The closest he comes is 51:07 he says does she kill her sister to find out something about the man she met. So- 1. He wonders it aloud but doesn't give it as a clear answer. 2. He doesn't state that she would do it solely to see her dream man again, which is what the test is looking for.
Ricky is annoying but not a psychopath. He's also quick and intelligent which is why he often comes close to getting inside Karl's mind, but not a psychopath)

Spot on, I have never heard anyone as self pitying as Karl. Always feeling sorry for himself, no one has the troubles I have - pathetic.His life was ruled by fear and anxiety over nothing and all he ever did was avoid life. And he was a lazy bastard.

Two things I don’t like:
1. Ricky and Steve slurping coffee right into the microphone so you hear it slurp and also Shriner their lips, horrible
2. Steve always says to Karl please never bring a child into this world. He has said it loads of times thinking it’s funny. What if Karl and his partner were unable to have child, or lost a child, or were trying unsuccessfully. That could be a really sore point so it’s messed up saying that you someone.
