    Gervais and Merchant returned to Xfm in August 2001, after the first series of The Office had been broadcast. However, the earliest surviving radio broadcasts are from November. Xfm brought in Pilkington as producer.[8] The show was originally just billed as Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, and Karl's presence was not acknowledged on posters and other advertisements. Gervais and Merchant would speak to Karl about his thoughts on whatever they were talking about. In 2003 Pilkington was officially added to advertisements for the show as over the years Karl's role on the show became more prominent as Ricky and Steve were finding more amusement with his views and personal life. As the producer, Karl had input with features such as Rockbusters, Songs of Phrase, Do We Need 'em, Knob News, Cheeky Freak of the Week, Monkey News and Educating Ricky. Their last show for XFM aired on 2 July 2005, after which they chose to switch the show's format from radio to podcasting.

    2:36:00 Karl talks about Body Odour in B.O and used it for BOw (within Rainbow) and I've used BO as a quiet way of informing friends they smell, usually repeated with scaled severity
    "Bo bro"
    "Just a bit of Bo"
    "Mojo BoBo"
    "B-b-bo bo, bo bo. b-b-b-b-bo bo bo [Ghostbusters theme]"

      Exactly what I was going to comment. Is that Ricky on a voice changer? Many of the exact same phrases and patterns of speech that Ricky uses. I’d be really disappointed if that was Ricky pretending to be someone else, as that would throw the legitimacy of the whole show into question for me.

    • @EltonBeatles
      @EltonBeatles 2 роки тому +4

      @@andrewmay1299 I don't think so. Ricky in one episode couldn't even be bothered doing some decent voice overs for Karl, so I doubt he would spend his time to record a whole conversation. But you never know.

      @Brett pilkington - are you serious? There’s a big difference between ‘here’s Karl being himself and having a genuine discussion with a member of the public’ and ‘here’s Karl and Ricky acting, in a scripted scene.’ Both would be attempts at comedy, but both very different, and it’s important for the listener to know the difference and not be misled.

    To be fair i thought the office was dire, even in the early 00s. It had a couple of good moments like big Keith's appraisal but other than that it was pretty substandard. I tried watching it again a few years ago, i managed only 3 episodes before i gave up again. And no, I'm not some American who doesn't get British humour, I am British

    Karl’s stories are almost always 40-70% valid as it turns out.
    But then they just always pull a straw man.
    They are way too narrow-mindedly “scientific.”
    Luckily, Rick has expanded his mind since then.

    One of the things I find incredible about Karl, which I haven't seen discussed much: He doesn't have any regrets from his childhood.
    That may not seem that mental, but think about how much of a twat you were as a teenager, how embarrassing it is to think about what you were like back then.
    Karl doesn't have any of that! He still stands behind every decision he made as a kid. Dumping a girl for crying over her dress, nicking Mars bars from his boss on his paper round, he's still pretty much the same person.
    I could go on about what that says about him as a person but this comment is already too long and pointless lol
