Tony - you are are class act, true gentleman and ambassador for the game. As a follow Poway resident I never saw you turn down an autograph request or refuse to stop and talk to your fans. You will never be forgotten. Thank you.

solid argument can be made saying Tony Gwynn is the greatest "pure" hitter the game has ever produced! I am lifelong Atlanta Braves fan, but Tony is my all time favorite baseball player EVER!

      I can't think of a better hitter
      Born in 82 here
Remember watching him as early 87 or so & understanding what I was seeing

Greatest hitter of my lifetime!! He left us way too soon at only 55 in 2015! As a Dodgers fan, I saw Tony play in 1985, at 6 years old. I didn't understand what I was really watching on TV but when I got older, Tony became one of my favorite players! Rest in Peace, Mr. Padre!!

When I heard on Monday morning that tony had crossed the river, it seemed unreal. Being a San Diego local, I spent much of my adult life watching "Tee" play ball. As I'm about a year younger than Tony was, it hits me in a very real way, how someone in my age group can be taken by cancer.
Rest in peace, "Tee." It was truly a joy watching you play.

Players like Tony Gwynn, Cal Ripken and Mike Schmidt aren't all about the money. They play the game right and are loyal to their fans and town. I had the honor of seeing him play in some great games, but most memorable moment was pumping gas next to him in our hometown of Poway, and though i didn't bother him, he noticed i was wearing a T-Gwynn t-shirt and gave me a big smile and nod.

Greatest hitter ever, when pitching was at it's best IMO, Tony Gwynn lifetime batting avg of .338 is AMAZING, 1 strikeout per 28 at bats is also amazing and unheard of, RIP Tony Gwynn you were truly ONE OF A KIND.

I want to break down and cry because he and cal ripken jr. are the reasons why love the game of baseball so much. for over 20 years they played for their home state team, ripken who pass lou gerhig pefect attendance record in games, collect 400 HRs and is a member of 3000 hits. tony glynn who had every year except for one batted .300 or better, ties a NL record for 8 batting title with honus wagner, ranks 18th all-time in batting .338 and is also a member of 3000 hits. they were the true heroes of baseball when the steroid era was establish. the same can be said about Ken griffey jr. and Frank thomas.

Well said Tory. Cal and Tony were icons on the field obviously but we're both class acts in every way, and did it the right way. I'm a dodger fan and watched Tony blister us for years but loved to watch him hit, still heartbreaking knowing he is gone.

Met Tony once and his family (still have his baseball at my computer desk), he was a gentle giant and a family man who exhibited integrity and passion for his family and fans. I got a chance to visit the stadium and view his statue. Thank you Alicia for sending for me , Tony C. and our late Uncle Leonard and providing a round trip first class flight and welcomed us into your home. Gone to soon! My family is always in my prayers.
