  • I Dvr the Dan Patrick show and watch daily and i just got around to watching yesterdays show when while they were on air they got the news that Tony Gwynn had just passed away. I've never been a Tony Gwynn fan, in fact its really hard for me to watch Baseball, but for someone that lived in San Diego most of their life, no one can deny the tremendous influence Tony Gwynn had on the city. There was no greater San Diego sports icon in town ( for my generation at the least) than Mr Tony Gwynn. God bless you Sir, and i know you're definitely Resting in Peace.

Just remember baseball fans.... Tony Gwynn did all his high baseball accomplishments while being clean. Meaning, NO steriods, NO Performance enhancing drugs, no foreign substances and NO help with high altitude air. Highest BAVG. .394 in 1994 since 1930. Just simply amazing and guess what? He was such a good family man and a pretty good person too.
Tony there will never be another like you. RI-Paradise Tony, we all miss your laugh.

Yep. Even the cashier at 7/11 where he lived used to razz him about it. Ted Leitner used to talk about it.

San Diego is such a bad hitter's park. He could have hit .400 in Fenway, or approached a .350 career Batting Average. He was thought to be a below average fielder when he entered the league, but through hard work and focus, became a five-time gold glover, a fact of which he was very proud.

He never played at Petco Park. Old Jack Murphy stadium was a hitters park. Great times.

It was a hitters park COMPARED to PetCo.

@@danfouts100 As Matt said, it was a hitters park _compared to Petco_ (especially Petco as it opened). But Jack Murphy / Qualcomm wasn't really a hitters or pitchers park, compared to the rest of the league, it was among the cookie cutter middle-of-the-road parks. Great times, nonetheless. :)
