    It's crazy how a blind land animal is able to go under water and sniff out water creatures

      @horst-detlefkrawutschke8469 10 місяців тому +17

      @JohnnytNatural Because sight is no longer necessary to keep that species capable of reproduction. You could say the same about penguins. Why did they forget to fly? They don't have to because they adapted to their environment in a super efficient way without the need to fly. That's how evolution works. Adapting to the environment in the most efficient way possible.

    • @horst-detlefkrawutschke8469
      @horst-detlefkrawutschke8469 10 місяців тому +2

      @JohnnytNatural Yes, I too think it's because they live underground and only come out to hunt under water, where their mammal eyes are pretty useless. So the only thing they would use their eyes for would be to locate the water source, i guess? And that's a very small portion of their tasks in life, and their ears or nose could do the job too. So, with working eyes they would have a higher demand of energy/food, but since sight is not that important in their life, nature choses to just get rid of it for efficiency. Strange thing but it all comes down to how to save the species, no matter if you can see it happening or just feel it in your whiskers :D

    • @theduckster01
      @theduckster01 10 місяців тому +3

      @JohnnytNatural I don't think sight is automatically beneficial. It takes energy for the brain to process images and video, and having larger eyes requires more blood and nutrients to maintain the eyes.

    • @jessebeegee

      @JohnnytNaturalu seem to believe sight is beneficial because your life is built around it meanwhile penguins still have their wings

    I never knew these animal existed until I saw one in the wild. I was on a backpack camping trip in the Gore Range of Colorado. I was filling my water bottle from a small creek when I saw a "mouse" (first impression) swimming by, completely submerged. When I got home I started doing some internet research and figured out what I had seen, and that I had not lost my marbles.
