I really believe that what creators lik3 you do is making the world a better place. Exposure to other cultures and people helps break down walls of hate and ignorance. And seeing you, in real life, not a picture in a book you don't want to read does teach. And teaches better than any book can. America is so big it's normal to never leave this country, and that's with yearly vacations in places a thousand miles from home. We never see the rest of the world, so it's easier to believe stereotype. But you, you show us a real place, with real people. No one is starving. You don't sleep in trees. You show us the richness and beauty of Uganda. Not Africa, but a country in Africa. Unfortunately, many need to learn the difference.

    Dear Aketch Joy Winnie,
I usually don't comment on youtube because i think that there are already so many people commenting, how could you read all of them right?
But I just want to say that what you are doing is ver very important. I am a 27 year old woman, I live in a wooden tiny house in the Netherlands without electricity and don't use internet or a phone a lot but especially to watch your video's i go to a place where there is wifi and electricity. Because everytime I watch it I feel like i am looking at real life, I am trying to live more in tune with nature. Like growing my own food, foraging, less technology, making my own clothes and learning ancient skills. But what i am still missing a lot is what you show many times in your video's, community. I have found my own kind of community of friends around me whom i love very very much but what you show and describe is something different, you don't have to relearn how community works, I do... we in the west have lost this very precious thing. Also when you talked about that in your village people don't really know anxiety and stress. I can see it in the way you talk and move, its relaxed and not hurried. I am trying that as well but its so deeply in our culture and years and years of conditioning, so i have a long way to go. When i watch your video, I feel homesick to that way of living that is still in my DNA.
Anyway i want to tell you i think you are amazing and doing very well with your video's, thank you so much for sharing it with you and it would be an honor to meet you one day and learn from you about your village.
Thank you Aketch Joy Winnie. You are lovely.
    Lots of love.
    Celien

Thank you for making these videos. I honestly don't know how I accidentally came across your channel once, but I was hooked since then and have been watching for over a year now. Your videos bring me so much peace and I really enjoy watching them, as I learn so much! ❤❤ I live in the UK, but I am Indian by ethnicity and your village videos really remind me of the old villages in India that my dad always tells me about when he was growing up there. Thank you for all you do! 😊

My name is Cheryel. I love your videos. I share them with friends to challenge their stereotypes.
You asked us to share ourselves with you.
I, too, am a Christian. I'm a United Methodist Certified Lay Speaker. I preach at tiny rural churches that can't afford a full-time pastor.
I'm also a grandmother and a great grandmother. I love how your culture views their elders.
I'm a quilter. I love different fabric from different countries. I have indigenous fabric designed by Australian aborigines that i will make into a quilt. I would love to get some fabric from all the countries of Africa. I wish i could see cloth makers there.
God bless and prosper you in all you do.

I come from a family of "teachers"... Only some of us are school teachers by profession, but all of us teach in some way. Yes, once a teacher, always a teacher, because sharing knowledge and learning are at the core of our being.
I have learned so much from you on this channel. You are a natural teacher. 🙏🏼

I am a last child by circumstance. losing a sibling at an early age changes the whole family. Losing my little sister forced me to see the world a little different than most in that I know this life is short term and everyday is a blessing, even the pain. So going about life in a way that is meaningful, and fun is very important.

Watching you reminds me of how my relatives in the Northern Philippines put cooking oil in their palms before peeling sappy vegetables. The way you, my grandma and my aunts handle the knife is quite similar. I bet you can peel veggies even if your eyes are closed. I lack that skill because I grew up in the city and I use vegetable peelers. 🤭

Hi Joy! I had no idea you were a teacher. Of course you still are! I was an academic librarian in a large community college for 25 years. I had to retire on disability because I developed kidney failure. I’m now on dialysis and just take one day at a time. I’ve had a lot of surgeries and I still have more to come. I’m also a Christian and I’m grateful for God’s blessings in my life. And that include you!

Is there anywhere you'd love to travel to?

What does your younger siblings want to do when they get older job wise or education?

I knew that in the Caribbean we eat ripen in plantains thanks to the heritage from enslaved West Africans. We eat green bananas and green plantains too which other countries think it's weird. I'm glad to see there's an explanation from another part of the African continent.

I am truly curious to know how do you protect yourself from mosquitos and the diseases they transfer? Is it something you need to constantly think about, be concerned or mindful about or it is not a problem in the area you live? Some time ago on TV there was a documentary about a famous Zika forrest in Uganda, where researchers catch and study the mosquitos. It was very interesting.
