1- This redness is due to a syndrome called Frey’s Syndrome that includes sweating while eating (gustatory sweating) and facial flushing. It is caused by injury to the auriculotemporal nerve, typically after surgical trauma to the parotid gland. When this nerve heals,it reattaches to sweat glands instead of the original salivary gland (which had been removed during surgery). This means that when this patient is supposed to salivate, he sweats instead. Redness and sweating appear when the affected person eats, sees, or even thinks about food. 2-The child has viral parotid inflammation which is called "mumps" which causes swelling of the parotid gland, meanwhile the parotid gland is covered by the deep cervical fascia which condenses to form the stylomandibular ligament.
