They could have added more truth to the movie. They obviously couldn't tell every detail but they could've mentioned Tina's firstborn son Craig who was fathered by Raymond Hill. They could've shown more of Ike & Tina's career and how they became global am ambassadors for Soul music. Watching the film you'd think they never left America. Some scenes were unnecessary like the diner and rape scene. Also Laurence Fishburne is much bigger than the real Ike, he couldn't drag Tina like depicted in the movie. According to those around Ike & Tina, she got in her fair share of fights too. The movie isn't an accurate portrayal of their relationship.
Your right but some people find it disrespectful for them get the story “dramatically “ wrong is many ways because that story was a real story that was serious not meant to be dramatically changed
My grandma told me a story about how when she worked at a hotel in Chicago back in the day Ike and Tina checked in and she and the rest of the staff could hear them fighting. Crazy.
That rape scene in the studio was also a lie. He didn't rape her, but she said sex with him was "like rape". I think he used sex to further humiliate her after he beat her.
Tina also inherited debts to promotors for cancelled Ike & Tina concerts due to the divorce. It would take years to pay off until her comeback in the 80s.
They got robbed of winning the Oscars that year should of went to them. Everyone was talking about that movie it was all the buzz and still today if you catch it on it's hard not to watch. Sad but great at the same time. I love Tina
The cake scene did occur, but it was shown inaccurately in the movie. In real life, Ike and Tina stopped to order food one time when a waitress brought a pound cake to them while they were sitting in their car. Tina told Ike she didn’t order it, but Ike got frustrated and made her eat the whole cake while he watched.
This was certainly a very powerful and empowering movie, even if some of the facts were fudged a little. I adore Tina Turner for all she has accomplished in her amazing life!
I think it's disrespectful for Hollywood to make biopics that are not factually true. It is a complete disservice to Tina Turner that so many facts on this film are false.
I don't like it when movies that are based on true event are not all based on true events, because if I want to find out more info about the place or the person some say it is fictional and i don't like that. I want to learn about the past so that i can have a better understanding so that I can talk to people about it and learn something out of our conversation. This video helped a lot, I give a big thanks for all the Mojo companies for helping me learn new things.
I’m shocked there’s no talk of the rape scene which some say was never based in fact. It’s such a shocking scene to possibly not be true I thought it would be number one
I think that scene is much too graphic to speak of on this particular platform, and though it may not have happened exactly how depicted in the movie, Tina mentioned in her book how Ike would demand sex and it was like rape.
Well he used to hit her and order her to the bedroom. She said it felt like rape so it was. I'm sure after someone hits you the last thing u want to do is have sex with them. Remember Tina described it as being ordered not make up sex. No difference in my mind as a Sexual assault nurse examiner. The frame of mind and wording of a victim speaks volumes. This plays down the domestic violence in the relationship. Like it was only a little bit. Which is too damn much. Ike admitted he hit her but according to him his father hit his mother to make her obey him. See that shit right there.....makes alot of sense now huh. Ikes interviewers were cringeworthy, ooo Chile watch a few. They on here.
@@BlaydeAlabama Absolutely. The best way to see how sick Ike really was is to watch his interviews. He really didn't think beating her was wrong at all.
There maybe a lot the film got wrong, but it still and always will remain a classic! It's one of those films where you come across while changing the channel, and once you see it, you start watching it no matter where in the film it might be. It's so good. Hard to watch at time's. When I was little, I would be crying eyes out during certain scenes. It makes you want to hate Ike, but love Laurence Fishburne. He's so good at playing this hateful, crazy ass character, but you gotta laugh and applaud him for doing one hell of a job. Him and Angela! Both were brilliant!
You 20 years too late for the black community. We already saw the movie. The movie is cannon in our minds plus the few minute things they got "wrong" in the move we talked about among ourselves already lol
@@loriellajames6978 I hated that scene. I was like why would do you rat out your own child (for money) so that she would have no choice but to get back with her abusive husband. 😕 I was like didn't you run away from your own husband and children because of abuse, 😒 but you tell your child's abuser just because he has money. I never understood that 😑
One of my favorite movies about a true role model. She is such a strong role model. She walked away with nothing from abusive marriage rather than that going after Ikes money. She has worked hard for everything she has. I have had the honor of seeing her perform numerous times and she puts on one of the best shows out there.
That's another myth, that she left with nothing. According to Tina's lawyer in Tina's own book, Tina wanted half of everything. Ike also said in her book that Tina wanted him to buy her house. In the end they settled on her keeping her stage name and Tina's lawyer said Tima retained songwriting royalties from songs she wrote. Tina also kept her two Jaguar cars and Ike gave her money for rent. But Tina certainly worked hard to rebuild her career and earned her success.
I'm not a Ike fan by any means, and I LOVE Tina, but I hate misinformation. He wasn't at the hospital for the birth because Tina's first son wasn't Ike's son. His father was one of the band members in the Ike and Tina Turner Revue.
Based on a real background singer who stood up to ike and got put out. Ike was abusive to the ladies as well and she wasn't taking that shit and did ask her to leave with her. I remember an interview with her back then
@@BlaydeAlabama Not true. Jackie is a made up character. There was never an Ikette named Jackie. You're probably thinking of Miss Robbie from Sweet Pie's who actually speaks positively about her time as an Ikette. She left to form another group. There have been many Ikettes and all the ones who have spoke out have said they never saw Ike hit Tina. That doesn't mean there wasn't violence in private but Ike & Tina were professional about their business. They wouldn't have been able to maintain their business for nearly 20 years if Ike was just going around beating people. Look up the Ikettes Robbie Montgomery (Miss Robbie), Claudia Lennear, Maxayn Lewis, P.P. Arnold. They speak about their experiences as an Ikette. However Tina got into a fight with a few. That's something the movie leaves out. Tina could be aggressive at times too.
As much as I like Tina and while this film is entertaining and sad it's hard to take it seriously as so many things are dramatized and some exaggerated. I mean if they are going to do a biopic please do it properly.
I saw this at the base movie theater in Naples, Italy. When the scene fight in the limo hit the screen, you heard loud gasps, then when Tina began to fight back, the theater erupted in shouts and applause.
Honestly this movie did piss me off. I am a huge fan of Tina Turner however, they got so many of the facts wrong. I know that I Turner was a bad man for what he did to Tina. But what they don’t say is that Tina was actually with Ike turner’s Bandmate and friend and had already had kids with him before she even met Ike. They made it seem like she was a virgin. That was far from the truth there’s so many other scenes that were not right. But this is a major one that bothered me. But other than that it was a great movie.
During the first beating scene Angela Bassett broke her wrist when she fell over the couch. Tina Turner however said that when Ike hit her the first time it was with a shoe stretcher.
From what i read online, the “eat the cake, Anna Mae” scene was an exaggerated reenactment of a real life incident, where Tina recalled a waitress giving her a pound cake that she didn’t order, Ike insisted that she did and ordered her to “eat all of it”.
#1 is my favorite scene in the movie. I was wondering since theres a scene in whats love got to do with it where ike rap3s tina while shes trying to sing her song. Did that actually happen while she was trying to sing her song or was that wrong as well.
So funny because I ALWAYS wanted to sit down with Tina Turner for 30 mins and just ask how much of the movie was true or false lol. Ike too. Still do!!! lol
She will tell u she never saw the film. She approved of Angela Bassett but other than teaching her some of her dance steps, advising her on costumes and hairstyles, she had no interest in the film. But she loved 'Tina: The Musical'

It's so the story can be cinematic.
Queen's film definitely took some liberties.
They still have to be fictional
The book I, Tina is sadder. They couldn’t have the whole story in.
IKR? I read the book when I was a teenager & the book was worse. The abuse she suffered was horrendous!
What is the book called?
PuffDa Toddler “I, Tina.” it’s literally in op’s comment
I read her biography
Of course some parts of the movie were fake/dramatized. IT'S A MOVIE! Every little thing is not gonna be followed to the letter. Geez!
This is more than "some" though. Alot of things didnt even make this list honestly.....
Most of those fake/dramatized moments painted Ike in a negative light. So unfair
Molly YouInDangerGirl even if the “fake” moments weren’t in the film, he would still be put in a negative light because he was abusive lol
Your right but some people find it disrespectful for them get the story “dramatically “ wrong is many ways because that story was a real story that was serious not meant to be dramatically changed
Ummm actually Tina Turner had said the marriage was even worse than they portrayed
Poor Laurence Fishburne 😅😅 everybody hated him back then. Such a legend 🙌
"Of course I know the words Ike--I wrote it".
Epic
"You done wrote the song and now you can't sing it"
@@ladycwin07 "you wrote a muthafuckin song and now you can't even remember the goddamn words?"
@@KingTriton1837 Right? His method of cursing cracked me up. It kinda lightened the tone when it was getting too heavy.
My grandma told me a story about how when she worked at a hotel in Chicago back in the day Ike and Tina checked in and she and the rest of the staff could hear them fighting. Crazy.
wow what year was that
She did o seem her interview and work as maid and was on food stamps and her said how tried she would be when but she came home she was happy
That rape scene in the studio was also a lie. He didn't rape her, but she said sex with him was "like rape". I think he used sex to further humiliate her after he beat her.
However, many wives went thru similar situations before laws changed. Wives could NOT say no to their husbands when it came to sex.
Angela should've gotten that Oscar...
Angela Bassett should have got an Oscar for that movie
Facts
The rape scene was entirely fictional. I really wish the writers had stuck closer to the truth. Both Ike and Tina denied that event took place.
Yep!
It was NOT entirely fictional. Tina said he would force her to make love. What do you call that?
7:35 🥴
@@mfululizowak9899 ya. Literally nothing about the scene in the film 😬
@@jeanandre6998 That studio scene was purely fictional, though. She should've left that out.
Tina also inherited debts to promotors for cancelled Ike & Tina concerts due to the divorce. It would take years to pay off until her comeback in the 80s.
I know, I can't be the only one who was quoting the words from the scenes they were showing 😂😂
ps... also sang some bits too
Exactly, and was mad when they cut the part off where she sings the note before he Carry's her down the steps from the hospital
That scene of Anna being pulled out of the audience is one of the best in the movie. It’s a shame her discovery didn’t happen exactly like that.
They got robbed of winning the Oscars that year should of went to them. Everyone was talking about that movie it was all the buzz and still today if you catch it on it's hard not to watch. Sad but great at the same time. I love Tina
I noticed that they didn't show her having a baby with his other bandmate. She had a baby with on of them before she dated Ike.
I don’t like how they never let it be known that Tina already had a child when she met Ike
By the drummer at that
@@shelaineberry3358 Wow didn’t know he was by the drummer
He played saxophone.
@@BobbieSmith46 Oh ok

same 😂😂😅
Laurence Fishbourne is extremely nice in real life which makes his performance much more incredible.
I Saw an interview with Judge Jo Brown saying he used to live next door to Ike and Tina Turner and he said she was the abusive one.
The “Cake Scene” never happened either. Although, Tina alleged that Ike once splashed her in the face with hot coffee ☹️
The real winner of this was Angela Basset’s arms.
Angela is such a good actress. She was wonderful as Tina Turner, and I just loved her as Katherine Jackson.
Laurence Fishburne played Ike better than the real one, he was too good in this.
Only ones who would know for sure what happened are Ike and Tina.
Tina said that part was exaggerated
There maybe a lot the film got wrong, but it still and always will remain a classic! It's one of those films where you come across while changing the channel, and once you see it, you start watching it no matter where in the film it might be. It's so good. Hard to watch at time's. When I was little, I would be crying eyes out during certain scenes.
It makes you want to hate Ike, but love Laurence Fishburne. He's so good at playing this hateful, crazy ass character, but you gotta laugh and applaud him for doing one hell of a job. Him and Angela! Both were brilliant!
Angela Basset shoulda won the Oscar for this performance! Fantastic movie!
Angela Bassett should have won the oscar
You 20 years too late for the black community. We already saw the movie. The movie is cannon in our minds plus the few minute things they got "wrong" in the move we talked about among ourselves already lol

Yesssss!!! We need more 👑Tina Turner 👑 videos from Ms. Mojo!! 🙏🏽🙌🏽
I can watch this movie over and over. I never get tired of it.
I know but it is hard to watch, her Mother told Ike where she was when Tina tried to runaway from Ike.
@@loriellajames6978 I hated that scene. I was like why would do you rat out your own child (for money) so that she would have no choice but to get back with her abusive husband. 😕
I was like didn't you run away from your own husband and children because of abuse, 😒 but you tell your child's abuser just because he has money.
Tina confirmed in an Oprah scene that the court battle about the stage name wasn't real either
I'm not a Ike fan by any means, and I LOVE Tina, but I hate misinformation. He wasn't at the hospital for the birth because Tina's first son wasn't Ike's son. His father was one of the band members in the Ike and Tina Turner Revue.
I ADORE this movie I thought Jackie was Reallllll
She was. Just didn't introduce her to buddhism
Based on a real background singer who stood up to ike and got put out. Ike was abusive to the ladies as well and she wasn't taking that shit and did ask her to leave with her. I remember an interview with her back then
@@BlaydeAlabama i thought i saw an interview with her. That's why I was like 😯😯😯😯😯
@@BlaydeAlabama Not true.
I watched this movie today for the first time. Bassett absolutely killed it.
i remember seeing this movie in the theatres and the entire audience bursting out cheering when the limo scene happened
Angela Bassett played Tina sooo good 💕🙌🏽
According to Ike Turner's family, this movie further ruined his reputation when it came out
His reputation was already ruined. His domestic violence was notoriuous years before the movie was launched.
Oh well,he was a horrible person anyway
oh boo hoo 🤨 too bad, so sad 😑
I heard he tried to get the movie pulled. Then it was "explained" that Ike was molested as a kid and that's why he was on drugs.
Oh no, an abuser's reputation was more ruined... by a movie that highlighted his abuse.
In loving memory of Tina Turner!!!🕊
She literally dressed amazingly
As much as I like Tina and while this film is entertaining and sad it's hard to take it seriously as so many things are dramatized and some exaggerated. I mean if they are going to do a biopic please do it properly.
Laurence was fiiiine in this movie despite his ugly character.
I'll take this as a sign to re-up on chanting to change my life and vibration.
Even though Tina and Ike went their separate ways, they still each won a Grammy. Ike got his in the early 2000s.
I saw this at the base movie theater in Naples, Italy. When the scene fight in the limo hit the screen, you heard loud gasps, then when Tina began to fight back, the theater erupted in shouts and applause.
"Ike didn't threaten her with a gun but his goons went as far as shooting up the house" sounds like Ike had people threaten Tina with guns I mean damn
Angela shouldve gotten the Oscar for her acting in this movie. She was amazing!
1:25 that little actress was feeling it. Loved that scene until she was kicked out
We will miss you massively, Tina!
During the first beating scene Angela Bassett broke her wrist when she fell over the couch.
Tina Turner however said that when Ike hit her the first time it was with a shoe stretcher.
Isn't the "eat the cake, Anna Mae" scene fake, too?
I would like to know as well.. its catchy when Jay Z says in the song drunk in love
🤔
From what i read online, the “eat the cake, Anna Mae” scene was an exaggerated reenactment of a real life incident, where Tina recalled a waitress giving her a pound cake that she didn’t order, Ike insisted that she did and ordered her to “eat all of it”.
Yes that too is a lie
#11 Ike never raped her like in the movie. Tina herself said it never happened
#1 is my favorite scene in the movie. I was wondering since theres a scene in whats love got to do with it where ike rap3s tina while shes trying to sing her song. Did that actually happen while she was trying to sing her song or was that wrong as well.
The rape scene is fabricated. It never happened in real life.
Tina said he never raped her she said it was more emotional manipulation to get hr to sleep with him or bullying hen he wanted it
Two of Tina Turner's backup singers have said most of the movie is a lie and it never happened.
Netflix Needs To Do A Tina Turner Series
angela had MUSCLE in this movie 0:17
The book was way worse including Ike’s rage and violent abuse towards Tina then the movie. Tina thought it should’ve been way more facts in the movie.
Tina is stunning 🌸
So funny because I ALWAYS wanted to sit down with Tina Turner for 30 mins and just ask how much of the movie was true or false lol. Ike too. Still do!!! lol
She will tell u she never saw the film. She approved of Angela Bassett but other than teaching her some of her dance steps, advising her on costumes and hairstyles, she had no interest in the film. But she loved 'Tina: The Musical'
Tina’s autobiography is a fascinating book. I could only find it on eBay. If you can find it, it’s worth the money!
@@midnite4ever I bought it at a book shop. I read the first one 'I Tina' years back but the current one has more depth, including meeting and marrying Erwin Bach.
Ike wrote an interesting book titled Takin' Back My Name. I recommend reading it. It tells things omitted from Tina's book and it gives you context on hos background. The movie doesn't do Tina or Ike any justice but it's entertaining. Ike & Tina both sold the rights to their name for the film which is why Ike couldn't sue for defamation.
@@bluesugar58 I know his background it does nt justify how he treated her or the other women he was mean to

Ms. Turner is an amazing lady. She's gorgeous and talented, and I remember listening to her song "Private Dancer" when I was a girl.

@@JarredDoyle but the film was based on the book... I-
@@bbygalrea9682 her autobiography came out in 2018 ❤
@@bbygalrea9682 The film is loosely based on Tina's book I, Tina. Tina had no control over the script. She told Vanity Fair in 1993 that she didn't like being portrayed as a victim. She also didn't like that they changed so much of her story so she may have read some of the script.
