Umbraclaw is an ambitious platformer that tries to shine with a standout death mechanic that influences the protagonist's future. However, this concept is messily executed, not melding well with the stage design built around the main character's default abilities. Consequently, progression never feels fulfilling, doubly so when considering the weak characterizations and meager challenges.

I played the demo a lot, and decided to buy this game. First of all, it's fun. Secondly, it's really cool to look at. Thirdly, there's a lot of creative stretching going on, and I love it when games don't play it safe. 6 or 7/10 may be just about the right score for this game, but it's well worth playing and supporting in my book.

I'd personally say 8 or 9 but I haven't really bought anything new* lately.

As far as I know, Umbaclaw is similar, intention-wise, to Dragon Marked for Death; that is to say, an author work from one member of the studio who really wanted to make their own game far from the derivitivity of their ussual output (which is basically mega man zero) and want to explore a unusual path in gaming design but is received in a lukewarm manner. That game that I mentioned before had this same reaction, quirky but far from being popular with the main indie audience

After my first playthrough I kinda agreed with the review however after beating it again and again and again it got so much better as getting the different endings was a lot of fun I’m currently on my 9th run and only have 1 ending left

The way I see it. If I were someone that is craving for more 2D action indie platformer out there, I’d get animal well over this game.
Anyways on another note, while Inti creates are great at making metroidvania & 2D action platformers…
I’m just here wondering if Inti creates will ever make another new Gal*Gun game that isn’t spin off related now that they’ve already ported all of the older entries to the Nintendo switch. 😔

IntiCreates being aimless how exactly? They've made some great games through and through with a very few duds from time to time
I think this Bailey have no clue about what they said cause IntiCreates are the LAST legit studio who can dish out banger after banger, no matter what they do, not to mention have kept the same momentum going for the past decade or so
For someone who have played almost all of their games, at least those that came out in the West of course, I didn't find any game of theirs that felt aimless or boring, and pretty sure a lot of gamers have said the same thing

We’re referring to the weird puzzle and rhythm games. Take a look at their recent line up and compare that to their past games. This includes looking at the quantity of “smaller” new IPs they are releasing.

@@NoisyPixelNews So? They are allowed to branch out and leave their comfort zone from time to time, hell every game studio have done this
Refer to what I also said about them making very few duds compared to the bangers they've made in recent years, even if those duds are outside of their comfort zone
Again, this is just nitpicking the reviewer has made

Chasing sukia- hype and making a spinoff rhythm title based on a game that features idols seems predictable to me. Even the upcoming card battler has roots in battle chip challenge.

Aimless compared to their prime when they made the excellent Mega Man Zero games. They don't make anything worth a damn now, the Gunvolt games or Blaster Master or whatever aren't what got people to fall in love with their games.

I placed an order from Japan this morning and I love inti creates - also loved gal guardians! - but I tried Umbraclaw'd demo and it does not feel like an inticreates game (more like the opposite). The art style too it's unique but it does not resonate with me. Sorry Inti Creates I love u but this time around u can keep it ;)

It’s clear Inti Creates has likely divided their teams into small groups to work and learn how to develop different genres and gameplay systems. These smaller releases will likely lead to a really cool game in the future. Acquire seems to also be doing this - Azario

Are you sure that wasn't the point? Limited Movement is a part some Game Design. For example Ghost and Ghouls and Castlevania use Limited Movement to force the player to think about each individual movement they do. Dark Souls does the exact same thing.

I like that the studio are trying to branched out of the typical mega man-like games with this game, but making you mostly play as a normal looking cat than the cool looking anthro cat makes me less interesting in buying the game.

    • @Lukja08
      @Lukja08 Місяць тому +3

Except that's completely an option in this game.
If you want to play as the anthro-cat then just go die 5 times and you get to.
BUT you won't be able to get the complete BEST ending. It's risk vs reward in Umbraclaw.
