Perhaps it’s worth also noting that if he needs glasses to see clearly up close, it might be wise to keep them on for the purposes of the dashboard(speedometer, fuel, temperature gauge, etc.)

The point is valid but I think it may be age-related reading glasses for small text that's the problem. Not required for driving if your general eye sight is OK. Edit: As in not necessarily a short sighted issue.

I had in England a ride kind of like this...
The guy was on his phone texting whole time
Guy started taking pictures of himself whilst driving
    He almost crashed
He almost ran out of fuel so went half the speed limit (dangerously slow nearly crashing AGAIN)
    Got lost
Kept speeding up and slowing down randomly...
I actually text my friend the details as genuinely thought we would die...
Then he turned up to pick us up...
I'm in a wheelchair so only specific cars can take me and we had no choice
Luckily on the way back he just drove 20 the whole time on a 70 road and kept having random stops by just pulling over on a duel carriageway ( no not in the areas to do so just on the side of the road)

  • @amalilconfused

With my experience in our country taxi’s, I was thinking the driver was a scammer. But he was just actually confused because of the fault of the app (wrong pin) and because he was old, panicked, and also maybe felt guilty because he inconvenienced his passenger and made him rack up a large fare that he was honest enough to pay for the difference. Only in Japan.
In our country, either these scam drivers will get your money or you just pay them what you think your fare should have been after getting off.

They always went to the wrong apartment block; ie my friend's one instead of mine. And I'd even argue with them and they insisted they were at the right place. I would actually say, "No you're not. I'm inside my apartment and I know you're not outside." It is fairly common for people to use reading glasses to see something up close once you hit middle age. So commenting on drivers doing that to see your phone has nothing to do with their ability to drive. It's also a common ride share trick to bump up the price by going a longer route. While that's not as viable now as it was a few years ago some drivers will still try to make a extra buck that way.

same thing happened to me in Portland. The dude was super old and didn't listen to the directions. I even asked him to just listen to the directions and he refused. made a 15 minute ride into an hour. Lyft tried charging me extra but they fixed it. I tried getting a complete refund for wasting my time but they didn't. Oh well, never using Lyft again since apparently they don't screen their drivers.

old guy glasses usually for an extremely close up reading... you can drive and see navigation (at least line and arrows) without it
while I could play games, read, and all without my glasses, but need mine to drive while my mom got the opposite.. calm down dude xD

Exactly. There’s a point, even with low-wage jobs, where a bad employee *probably shouldn’t be doing their job*
I don’t say that as they deserve to get fired, i say that as there’s probably someone more suited for this that won’t fuck up that much and risk both themselves and their company as well as the customers. That’s my problem with connor giving him a 5. God knows how many more customers got fucked over with that guy on the wheel afterwards 😓

I had this happen to me once. One time in Vietnam our driver tried to make a little more money by going through longer routes and going in the wrong direction my dad who was in the passenger seat quickly caught on, but didn’t say anything. When we finally got to our destination he wanted my family to pay the full amount but my dad wouldn’t budge and didn’t pay the extra costs they argued but my dad walked away and the driver didn’t call the police or anything perhaps because he knew he got busted.

Reading glasses and distance glasses are combatting different problems, I've got excellent distance vision but need slight reading glasses (not required for driving). I bet half of these problems are due to most of the taxi drivers being a million years old and you guys expecting them to be able to read text on an app :) Not to mention remembering once they've read it (if they've got their reading goggles) but that's a different problem :)
