As a 60yo mechanic here in Oz, any time I need a laugh or a cheer me up, I just go to your Channel ...
You fixing MORE than Lawn mowers Taryl ..
Your makin people smile my friend 👍👍🙏 🇦🇺
I guess Elkskins new catchphrase will be “ Wind it up! Wind it up!”
You know you're getting old when you have a lift for working on mowers so you don't have to bend over anymore.
I like the look of the old, 'beer can' type of fuel tanks.
Great restoration project of a classic mower. Great attention to detail.
More like soup can tank...and work smarter not harder. Most auto mechanics use a lift, why not a mower mechanic?
You and your camera man are natural teachers.
He'll zoom in right when i need more clarity...well done guys👍
That's exactly what my grandpa had until he died in 1979. He loved it so much he went through 3 mower decks and used more oil than gasoline at the end. Thanks for bringing back my favorite memories of him Teral.
In 1963 I was 11 years old. I can't remember the name of the mower but I do remember winding the crank on the mower to start the mower, back in the good old days. Thank you guys for the video.
I also remember having one with the turn crank, but it wasn't a Pennsylvania mower. The time was in the sixties alright. At 77, I guess everybody will say where did the time go. It really flies ... they'll find out,
@@tellfile "Life is like a roll of Toilet Paper. The closer you get to the end of the Roll, the faster it goes".
Yep my grandparents had 2 of these.
@@duckhunter8387 I agree with you Sir.
@@tellfile Yes Sir, they will.
I love the 'sound FX' on this channel. Especially the earth-shaking thuds whenever Taryl hits something with a hammer! 11:46 🤣You gotta have a nice system w/subwoofer to get the full effect (I do!)😁
Pleased to see another Little Johnny video! Thanks. Regards
Yup! I like the Little Johnny videos too. Thank you, Teryl!
wanna know what we call the points and condenser in sweden? im gonna tell anyway, "brytarspetsar" (points), "avstörningskondensator"(condenser)- and there is your smorgasbord! WOOO
In Australia we call them all "faargin-cunnovathing".
Thanks that is a lot to say 😊
Wow. Thanks.
As a kid, I made my first income mowing lawns, so I enjoy these videos of waking up old derelict lawn mowers.
I don't remember "Pennsylvania" branded across a mower, but I remember the crank start mowers like this were common in the very early 1960's. What my father had back then was probably from the late 1950's. I liked cranking them as a kid because it was easier than pulling a rope.
These were fairly common in Western PA where we lived.
Love that old mower . No stuff hanging off it or a dummy bar a basic machine that is simple and built to last and to be repaired when it needs to be serviced
I got one of these in 64 for my 16th birthday at Western Auto
"Gee thanks Mom and Dad"
Yep that was a busy stores and everyone went there 😊
Way better than the new garbage now a days! Pretty cool stuff right there!!
The most dangerous part of this job was getting the blade out of the dang plastic package.
Nice job Taryl. What a cool little mower, they don’t make em like that anymore!
The first lawn mower I ever used as a little kid in the late 60s was very similar to that but it had a Clinton with crank start and you cranked it then folded the handle back down it had a button under there and when you pushed the handle into position it would crank the motor....
TY Taryl. This is stuff that will be gone one day. Your hard work will live on forever!!!
I remember my aunt who lived next door, had that exact same mower. That was in the mid late 60s.
That was friggin’ AWESOME, bringing back one of the mowers of my yoot! Yes, Pennsylvania was a very popular brand around here in NJ / NY area. They made all kinds of yard equipment including little riding mowers called “Pennsylvania Panzers”, push mowers, roto-tillers and bigger tractors. That wind-up starter handle is supposed to say Self Starter on it but the Self lettering is worn off. Very nice resurrection!
Great video. I had one of these Tecumish engines on an old Montgomery Ward lawn mower and it never failed to run. Problem was the windup spring eventually broke and the only replacement I could find in my area was a used spring for which the shop owner overcharged me by alot, in my opinion. Eventually it broke too, and my mower went to a handyman at our church rummage sale. This was back in the day when there was no Interscreen to buy parts from. Also, I didnt know you could retrofit the motor with a regular pull cord. Live and learn. I really enjoy these videos of bringing old equipment back to life. Thanks.
Taryl thanks for fixing it! They don't makeum like they used to.
My father owned one (Similar) and, I'm the one who was responsible to take care of it. Being a kid, at the time, it was easier for me to start the mower BUT, sometimes, I didn't turned the knob ( Yes, it was a knob. Not a push flat handle) all the way. It made some awful sound, when the "release mechanism" made contact against the running flywheel.
My grandparents had 2 of these mowers. I remember in the mid late 60's.
“Polished Another Turd”, no one better at polishing turds 😂
The Power of that spark plug neckless is simply Amazing. Once again it's magic aids Taryl to provide us with "There's Your Dinner!! "
The old man had a penn. hustler he bought in the early 70's. It was self driving , weighed a ton and lasted forever.
What an amazing find!! She looks good too. Reminds me of the mower my father used to have back in the early 70’s. 👍
I love these sketches I love them very much ❤❤❤❤❤
LOL, I'll bet Grandpa is doing cartwheels out of sheer joy. His little monster of a grandson has turned into a hard-working businessman - and instead of having to spend his pension buying little Johnny whatever he takes a fancy to, now little Johnny can buy HIM a few things to make his old age easier.
Mowed a lot of lawns in the late 60's with one just like that. Mower was "Very Used" back then.
Yes! In Massechutes along the water-front properties....they were pretty expensive back then for the day
I love how you thack time to explain things
run, Run, RUN for President! Or at least Wheaties should place your photo on the box as a Lawnmower Athelete!
Good job Taryl. 🇺🇲
Never heard of a Pennsylvania lawn mower before. Your videos are good. Keep them coming. 🤗🤗🤗🤗
My parents had a Craftsman mower with a hand crank Tecumseh motor. It worked great. My only complaint was the mower was very heavy and harder to push. Must of been a steel mower deck. I mowed 6 yards a week with it in high school. Great mower. I regret not keeping it.
I LOVE the color and design of the deck. Really cool!!
Seeing this mower really takes me back, to when I first started mowing grass as a kid. My dad had that same mower. We lived in Pa., but I don't recall the deck saying Pennsylvania. I do recall playing with the wind-up starter in hopes that the motor would come alive. My dad had given up on that mower, so I started my mowing time on the next mower, a 2 stroke that neither my father, nor I, knew how to start correctly. So, I usually spent a half hour wrapping the rope on, and pulling again and again, before it came alive. So, I kept wishing that rope start 2 stoke was instead like that crank up starter. Later when the deck on the 2 stoke broke, I put that motor on the on the "Pa." deck.
Dude! That thing is SWEET!
A real survivor.
Tecumseh Mafia approves this vid.
The mower deck is almost like a Lawn-Boy. Cool machine
Yeah if it was painted lime green it would be a really good Lawn Boy clone, but without the 2 smoker engine on it.
Lawn-Boy used a cast aluminum deck, a lot lighter than that steel deck.
When I was young (in the early 70's)we had a little "18 inch" grenn Sears lawnmower that looked similar to this. The grass shoot was in front of the right wheel. Wish I still had that old mower.
Great video! I really enjoyed this one! I’m 69 and I remember those crank up to start mowers! lol. I never had to replace a recoil spring in one but I bet it’s not fun! That is, until I watch you do it one day! Thanks for the enjoyment!!
I remember seeing all the brand new mowers in the Sears and Robuck stores and playing with the wind-up starter cranks. I was 5 years old then. Grandpa told me to leave 'em alone, but I couldn't resist a crankin' challenge
I LOVE Little Johnny. He's the best!
Always great videos!
This looks a lot like the old Pincor mower my dad had when I was little. I love these old staggered wheel decks. I think they produce a good cut. Maybe that's why Lawn Boy used them for so long.
Hi taryl was auto mechanic for many years worked for family business now i do lawn maintenance and also work on the equipment from pa cool vid never seen pa mower name before enjoy the vids and learn also some things i did not know thanks.
When I was 10 in 1966 I mowed a many yards with a mower just like that. Made a good bit of money with that old mower.
Taryl finds the coolest mowers to work on.
Wish there was a LJ lawn care around here.
Sweet little vintage machine. Excellent repair. I had forgotten about those wind up starters. Ah, the 1960s.
Johnny always creeps me out!!!! Yes I have heard of the Pennsylvania mower-my Mom took a picture of me working on a reel Penn mower, when I was about 10 years old ,that I treasure. Thanks guys! I just ran into a Breaks and Scrap'em twin with the bad grounding diode issue-your video really helped-thanks!!
Hey Taryl and crew good morning thats a real collectors item you've got there you are so lucky to have fans bring you all these Oddities have been a fan for quite some time keep up the good work and videos my friend God Bless You and Yours and Theres you Dinner 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉💯💯💯
Your repair videos are awesome. Your knowledge is out of this world. You are one of a very few that I enjoy watching more than a 15 minute video. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us
Aw! Man! Stop teasing me with the Spring Starter! Babe! Loved that type when I was kidd! If you Whined Me Up, I Never Stop, Never Stop... Like Mic and the Stones
Looks like a mower that would have been sold through an auto parts store like Western, Pep Boys or possibly through stores like F.W. Woolworths, W.T. Grants or Kresge's. Exeter PA on the label is near Reading PA. That was an area that was quite industrial and manufacturing related until Harvard business grads began selling out America to Asian countries.
Hi Taryl ! I love and i prefer the old lawnmower and gardening tools !
It's the must .
Hello from France .
Outstanding shipmate. Press on. USS Kitty Hawk CV-63. Jan 1980 to July 1983. My Dad use to work on old stuff like that. He would be so proud of you.
It's better than anything out there now. $300 or best offer. Na keep it and put in museum. Some day, little Johnny can charge to come see it
Great job on video and Love all your video's
Say bet you were a ChipnDale 😂🤣😂.Cant beat the old stuff.Simple easy to work on.
I was born and raised in PENNSYLVANIA and I'll be 50 yrs old on July 4th and I've never heard of such a mower. That's what I love about your channel, you always have odd and interesting thing!!! Keep up the great work fellas
I love these skits... of course! I'm the skits channel!
That’s awesome!! Koodles to the camera guy and hats off to the cast!!!
Still using my mom's old 1982 Toro 21" self-propelled. I've bought plenty of parts to keep it going. Mows every week and I love it!
grouse work Taryl mate she looks lovely afterwards and no kidding she,s a lovely runner in the end and i love how you got her running from a simple fix from the points and condenser replacement to a lawn mower blade and wheel replacement and even a good cleaning and of course getting that arbitrator aka carby cleaning and yep back then those were awesome as engines in their day for sure and as for the Wind up Starter there on the couling or engine cover yep no different to our Australian Made Victa.s here either as the Victa Corvette Model II (2) from the 1960s with the G2 type carburetor aka carby system and brass fuel taps yep a lovely design in it,s time and now days some people call them knuckle busters but yeah i don,t blame those lot out there but yeah very simple and easy and basic to work on and once fully restored well you cannot go wrong with the outcome for sure and of course one for the man cave as some might say and i do also believe the Victa Four Star which is a Four (4) Stroke type of engine with a Kirby Lauson on the deck/chassis/base and a red color from memory too and yep those ones are amazing little gems and good runners too and i love how you got this one running for sure and well yep all the simple basics and she,s back working like a champion of mowers for sure and well in your case with the Seial Number on there in the video being 9115618 well i reckon the unit your working on appears to be a 1968 or 1956 year type for sure if i can think of it correctly but yeah a good gem and way better than the stuff we have now days and that,s for sure and yep back in the good old days Tecumseh sure did know how to make a good engine for sure and that,s a true fact in life for sure too no kidding and i just they were in proper production for sure now days of making good parts like these now days as i know many people would be very grateful for sure and as a small engine and mower and machinery lover myself yep no worries mate and here in Australia 🐨🐑🦘🌴🌳🇦🇺 or the land down under and well during our Autumn/Fall Season🍂 yep a good Mulching unit there for sure when making the attempt of collecting the leaves for sure or simply shred them up into rows for collecting in heaps for sure and i love how this one came out for sure too and cheers from our Country called Australia to your area Taryl mate 👍and i love little Johnny.s idea of mowing lawns and all for sure and i hope he makes some good dough for sure.
The offset front wheel is just brilliant - wish us slow europeans could see that - gr8 video Taryl and gang
Wow,the stuff you guys find .
Always interesting and educational! my gas post hole digger starts like that. And a gas!
My grandfather had one of those Teal in color I used to mow his yard with it I loved the crank start
Thanks for all your great information. Great videos.
One of my friends gave me a Pennsylvania Exeter motorized Reel Mower. I got it going and sold it, had a 50s Era Briggs on it. Was a sweet unit.
HI TAryL, I think this wind up mower appealed to the Mrs. who liked to cut the grass but might not be strong enough to pull start the mower multiple times. Might have been sold at Goldblatts or Wiebolts late '50 early 60's in Chicago area. Neighbor lady had a similar model which I thought was REALLY cool! Great video, a pleasure to watch you work!!
Hey Taryl, growing up in the early '60's - '70's I never remember seeing anyone change the oil in a mower, especially a push-mower ( that would explain the black color) lol!🤣🤣 Nice work and camera work! From N.C.
Hey Mr. T I just got in a 96 powr Kraft rider in to work on, and there are two sets of blades on each spindle . One long blade and a tiny blade on one spindle super cool, not to mention it all metal .
Good job! Taryl
Those Lauson and Tecumseh motors were great torquey motors but they used that tiny little muffler for decades and were so loud and obnoxious...
That mower will still be going strong when that new junk is scrapped.
Love your humor and it’s free
I remember us using starter fluid spray on the points to clean any oil off and holding them open tell they dryed , it worked great on old farm tractors and hay baler engines 😊
My first mower was just like this one. My Mom bought it at Lit Bros. department store in Upper Darby Penna. in 1966. I mowed lawns with it for many years and made enough money to buy my first car in 1969. Tastey cakes and a cherry coke for .75cents Shure was nice after cutin all that grass.
That's a sweet oldie there. I just picked up an HWI self propelled with the "flattop" briggs 3.5hp. 1st one I can remember ever seeing. I know HWI, Hardware Wholesalers Inc. for those that didn't know, also it is now known as DO IT BEST hardware. The date I came up with on it says 1992, I know that's not too long ago but still cool. Also while we are on this subject, has anyone ever seen a suburban riding mower called "Ride A Magic" its from 1965 I believe. Can't find any info on it. Thanks in advance! Thanks for all you share taryl!.
Another awesome video taryl
I remember as a kid back in the 1960's a couple of neighbors owned that lawn mower..They lasted many a year
I always liked those old type WIND UP STARTERS!! And I'd rather have that mower than one of these newer "junk" one's!! Because I believe in KEEPING THEM RUNNING AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!!
I remember back in the 1970. My dad got a old lawn mower at the flea market I don't remember for sure I 18:49 😊 think it was a wards or sears . With
You have to remember when talking about England, they have some strange names for things, most likely points and condenser is called sparky and floper, or shock, and slaps.
From one Hoosier to another keep up the good work!
Great job! It'll out last the new junk by a long ways.
Yep. I mowed my yard with one of those. Also, with the old cast-iron deck. Hated that heavy mower, especially on the hill.
It's got that kaiser blade going on lol
We had one could have been as early as late 50, we had ours before 63. My dad when it wouldn't start he twist this flywheel stop before it was done spinning , he turned out needing a new flywheel. I went in service in 65 and it was in the scrap yard by then.
Our's had a deal you twisted built into the cover that put a stop right into the flywheel fins.
I'll bet Teryl drives the ladies crazy !!!
26:29 11/32 curved needlenose wrench LOL
Back in the Mid 70's I was working at a car dealership. One of the salesmen took a Pennsylvania riding mower or lawn tractor, which ever, in on trade for a car. I looked pretty much like a normal lawn tractor but had a car rear axle under it but more narrow of course. It was stock right from the factory that way. Always wanted to find one later to make a pulling mower with.
We had an old t-handle mower that had a crank start Briggs engine, it was probably from the 60s and always started right up
Just put the oil seal on my HRR216 governor shaft today and mowed it up before the rain today. Your videos are helping me big time Taryl. Thank you so much.
Pretty cool vintage mower…👍👍👍
The old Monkey Wards mower I used for my first job mowing a lawn in the 70's had a "Breaks & Scrap 'Em" with a wind up starter like that!
First mower I ever saw with a crank on top. Very cool, Great video.
