  • Quick video on just how easy it is to add a TEG stove fan to your Mr. Buddy heaters. This mod greatly helps in pushing out all the hot air these heaters create, instead of just having most of. The heat escape up.
    Amazon affiliate link for the fan I used is below. Since it is an affiliate link, this channel could receive a small commission from the use of this link. Absolutely no cost to you however.

    i'm doing this now. Using a hand file. It's a lot of work. Limited in type of power tools needed. The old fashion way works though. Have an old wood stove fan with just 2 blades, but it still blows the heated air horizontal. Great jury rig. Wish I did it years ago. Thanks

    I've just taken delivery of my heater this morning and this is a mod I'll definitely be doing - thanks for the video.
    If you have a piece of thin A4 paper in front of the fan it will show the air flow being driven out.

    Yep, I have 2 of those fans for 2 of my Big Buddy Heaters. They are nice to have for backup heat in times of emergency.

    We have a big buddy in our Motorhome as a standby for emergency use. A few years ago we were coming back from Florida but a massive blizzard was blowing through the northeast. All highways and roads were closed and we were stuck at the North Carolina border for two weeks.
    Our big Buddy came in real handy since our LPG was starting to run low. The issue was that our Big Buddy has a fan. A very inadequate D Cell Battery fan that you can hardly notice. It created a mess, Big Buddy radiates a lot of heat that was going straight up to our padded vinyl ceiling. Not only causing damage from the heat but damage from the moisture it propagates. This is a much bigger problem than meets the eye. To replace a damaged ceiling like that would have been in the thousands. You also need a dehumidifier going full blast. Our Fix was to put the buddy at the front of the coach with a 36" tower fan and a 14" circular fan behind the Buddy but that still didn't fix our humidity problem. These are great but they come with serious side effects.

      I have heard these are not ideal for RV use due to the moisture they put out. Even with venting and dehumidifiers I’ve seen issues with the amount of moisture these can reset. Thanks for the comment!

    I have two suggestions that should hold the fan more secure.
    Start your notch a little higher then down to the base. This should make it so that a certain angle is needed for it to be removed.
    Drill a 1/4-inch hole where the end of the notch will be. This also will hold the fan onto the grid better.

    And I have 4 full size fans running on mine two on top two on bottom! The ones going counterclockwise on the bottom take the heat going forward and push it down more so your feet stay warmer in the room!

    Hey man fun fact if your Buddy heater is on cement you can place the heat fan on the ground a few inches infront of the heater and it will start to spin counter clockwise! It’s because you are reversing the polarity of the peltier cell by heating the top instead of the bottom!

    Add cordless Ryobi fan behind it at the lowest setting....I use it in my cabin whenever I go there It works really good

    I like the fan idea but I might try it with the fan sitting a little bit more forward so those heat collecting blades in the back are more into the rising heat. If you had a little stainless steel Grill that you could put in front of the heater you can actually put four fans on there blowing in 360°.

      The fan works based on a heat differential. So the base needs to be hotter than those fins at the top of the fan. They are larger not to absorb more heat but because the are there to disapate heat. The fan could be all mechanical (Stirling Engine) or using an electric motor and a TEG (termal electric generator) but both types need to have a large heat difference between to points work.

      Hi Kathy. There is a link in the video description you can click on and it will take you directly to the fan I used. Some fans have 3 blades, some have 4, I’ve even seen some with 2 blades. It doesn’t really matter.

    Is it possible to overheat and melt the insulation on the wires of the thermoelectric unit? Can the motor overheat?

      There are max temp ratings on these fans. So you need to get one that supports how hot your heater gets at max

    why not just cut the wire grill and slide fan base on it......not damaging /Cutting base

    • @BrianWatersOutdoors
      @BrianWatersOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      The base on the fan is not big enough to stand correctly if you just cut the grate. Maybe on the bigger Mr Buddy heater, but on this one that is not really an option. At least with the fan I bought. Also, I don’t want to modify/cut the heater itself.

    • @byronjohnson4268
      @byronjohnson4268 2 роки тому

      try cutting a slot in the top wire of the bail, less width then the TEG fan bracket, so it holds the fan in position. a piece of steel could be attached to the base at the rear, to give it stability, or some small clamps.
      Buddy heaters have 4000, 9000 or 18000 btu, the fan will have to be adjusted forward or rearward to avoid burning up the TEG module, they are rated for 600 F maximum. adjustment is necessary. i have not tried this yet, but it should work.

    WARNING! I added a fan like that to my Buddy heater but cut the slot too long. When I slid the fan back, the stand deflected the heat coming out of the vents on the red parts and melted my handle! Since then I only push the fan back far enough to stay on.

    Observation: Stove fans on a Mr.Buddy are wasteful. I use my Craftsman or Makita battery fans. Those are versatile. Use them anywhere. Also for cooling yourself.
    These fan reviews tell me the O.P. isn't a handy man. No tools. Likes potpouri. Falls for Harry's ads and mansquatch soap.
