This song captures the joy and energy of youth of 1980s teens like no other.
Now melancolic and sad songs
Exactly......I was a sophomore in high school playing football and running track in NYC. This song and Our Lips Are Sealed truly captures being a teenager in the 1980;s. We are truly fortunate. The youth of today will not have the memories that we do.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
@@luisacabello4491 No, this bring me joy!
No flashy effects, no plastic surgery, this girls and her music was pure and fresh!
I never realized how strong the drums and bass playing is in this group. I didn’t appreciate them enough back in the day. Fantastic group in a fantastic time to be a teenager!
Straight musicians
I had a roommate in college that was a drummer in a death metal band. He bought the Go-Gos on a whim, basically to make fun of them, and ended up loving the disc because how good they were.
It sure was a great time to be a teen.
OMG yes, growing up with this music was the best. Great musicians and fun music. The teens of today need this now more than anything.
Yeah, she beats the hell out of those drums. And Belinda Carlisle is punk as F. She EASILY could have been Cheri Currie.
Never gets old still dance like I'm 17......52 now, time flies
0:27 Same here. 52 today. Time flies. So grateful to have been teenager in the 80’s.
52 here too, you are so right
52 also! I miss those days so!
50 now, same vibe. Guess this is "oldies" now 😅
52, too...and it still is my lielong goal to be one of The Go-Go's XOXO
Being young in the 80s was all about having fun! Great time to grow up..
Agreed. But not for everyone
@@astraluna6is9 yea so true for some it was not ! but hey my parents were broke I quit school after 8th grade got two jobs out on my own it was tuff at the time now I’m comfortable retired no stress and still liked the 80s better 😂 you know it’s the only ten year span without a US war in modern Us history fun fact! Take care of yourself and carry on fellow 80s kid
I was so lucky to be an 80's teenager. Best decade ever!
I Absolutely and Wholeheartedly agree with you and I Concur!! Someone asked me if I'd like to be 18 Years old again and I thought for a moment and replied sure- when I was 18!! Who the hell would willingly choose to grow up in this Era! Kids today are Big-Thumbed,Small-Minded,SLAVES TO THEIR PHONES AND SOCIAL MEDIA!
OH, I was 18 in 1984!!!👍🤘✌️
Same :)
i would have be fine growing up in the 70's, too.
Agreed!
These girls rocked! I’m not gonna lie, 52-year-old black man and whenever I hear this song I dance around like a high school cheerleader!
As a 55 year old African American woman, I feel the same way.
@@AdrianDeVore 😂 okay!
Love your honesty.
Especially that bit when it's pure bass.
You're awesome!
This song still resonates ..It is iconic...it is real...I still shiver with goosebumps as the song starts...
Just like I never get over the Our Lips Are Sealed / LA video - one-of-a-kind!!!!!
@@mjp96 YES and YES to the very first post.
First time i heard it. Good song.
Very nice song
Belinda before the plastic surgery. Oh my
68 years old. Still grooving to their music. Love me some Belinda. Incredible voice
The way Belinda is dancing through the first half of the video with her smile always gets me in such a good mood 😭❤️ The 80’s was truly iconic.
Belinda had the cutest little girl face, but she was all woman.
I was watching DWTS and everytime I saw Jojo Siwa I was like " damn she looks like, reminds me of somebody familiar". Fast forward to Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, old pics, videos of the Gogo's flash onscreen and I'm like " that's it! Belinda Carlisle! That's who Jojo Siwa looks like!" Anywys I'm soooo glad I grew up in the 80s era. 80s music, the 80s era is iconic, its legendary, can never be copied or relived. Thankful for the FAB memories.
@@seanquinn5483 They snorted coke?
@@EddieVBlueIsland Yes. I watched Behind The Gogos on VH1 and Belinda Carlisle even said she had a shoebox of cocaine in her closet.
@@EddieVBlueIsland Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but this was the 80s and we're talking about Belinda Carlisle here lol.
The Go Go's are long overdue for the Rock and Hall of Fame.
Agreed, the Rolling Stone Magazine dude is such a bitter asshole and won't let them in.
I agree. Pat Benatar is another that is long overdue for the hall of fame.
Yes They are! I was just thinking that lol
Just forget about the obtuse Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they know they belong there by far, and they´re hall of famer´s in my book. Great rock group, love them all.
Well today’s the day!! They’re nominees for the rock and roll hall of fame!!
One of the best piano solos ever! Nothing else like it. I just want to play along everytime I hear it.
the rock piano deserves a comeback
@@EconAtheist bring back the CP80!!
I was in a cover band for a bit, and this one absolutely killed. Most cover bands don't use keys so we got to really impress people by doing the synth/keys parts. And I'm a stickler for getting the sounds as close to original as perfect, so we got some comments about that too :D
@@TransistorBased yaaaas
Love the Go Gos, and watching this video I feel for Charlotte Caffey, because it appears she’s impaired. I understand she had a really serious heroin addiction. I have had a chronic pain situation, and totally understand becoming dependent on drugs (whether legal or illegal) is a situation that’s easy to fall into. God bless the Go Gos for hanging in there through difficult times. Their music is becoming more appreciated with the passage of time.
This is one of the best rock n' roll songs ever. And this is a man saying it about an all-female band.
Yawn
MAD respect to these pioneers. This song is still a banger
Facts. Was randomly thinking about it last week.
They were true originals in every sense. And you rock!!!
Yaaaassss
Music today is pure trash.
Yes! 1981 they paved the way!!!
They were so in the groove on that song and that bassline is just crazy
the bassline is incredible
I agree that baseline.is sweet!
The bass lights up like crazy with bass headphones too, its sick. I hate using that word "sick" too.
Amazing they were playing their own instruments, pure talent.. now it's just moving their butts and computer voices..
Found an old cassette mix tape that I made in 85’ that I thought I lost years and years ago. So I popped it in.
The Cars, Shalamar, Prince, Madonna, Power Station, Sheena Easton, Rebbie Jackson ‘Centipede’ Bryan Adam’s, Cyndi Lauper, David Bowie ‘ Blue Jean’ Chaka Kahn, and yes, The Go Gos ‘Head over Heels’!
It still plays perfectly. Really miss a lot of things about those days.
Rebbi Jackson sang Centipede not Latoya.
You have very good taste in music my friend.
OMG, I had most of those albums... and a few "singles" cassettes! Fun times!
@@jasonknox1268 Oh jeez, yer right. Man, been quite awhile hasn’t it? I better correct that pronto. Thanks Jason 😎
They never get enough credit for just being a solid group of musicians.
They have been getting some credit the last several years! :-) A Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and recently the California Hall Of Fame!
I personally think that this is the best go-go song, just love it.
I saw their Book, these Women really worked to get where they got🎸

probably because they were not. Only one of the band member could play any instrument when they were formed.
This was so much fun to dance to in the 80's. I still love it now. Watching this as a 50 year old and no longer a teenager, I can appreciate how truly talented each one of them are. Glad I grew up on this music.
except Carlisle - they could have kicked her out and been better off - with all the drama and conflict her female jealousy caused
Exact same here!!! ❤❤❤
Probably the biggest all-girl group since the Supremes?
I WAS BORN 1975 BUT ALWAYS LIKE 80 MUSIC FOREVER IN MI LIFE
Belinda Carlisle is absolutely gorgeous and the music 🎶 is great
Their most underrated single and a gem.
😍🥰😘
Off an incredible album!!
What are you talking about this was a big hit.
I concur.
Underrated? Impossibe! This was a craze in the Philippines in the 80s. I was in 3rd grade when this became a sensation.
"I was so lucky to be a teenager in the 2020s"... This will be the only time in your life you will ever read this. Long live the happy creative feel and optimistic vibe of the 80s!!! I may be 57, but at least I lived in the last decade that the US was cool, hip and fun, and not a complete Orwellian basket-case.
I was 21 when this song was all over the place. How can I be 60 ?!? The years just flew by.
I am 6 years younger than you, remember it was like yesterday
Congratulations to them for getting elected to the Rock and roll Hall of Fame it's about dang time
Amen to that they sure damn desvere it

Kathy Valentine's bass riff on this track is absolute fire.
Agreed, underrated rhythm section
Most of her basslines were badass. Very often it seemed the bass was the "lead" guitar on a lot of GoGos songs. In a lot of ways Kathy was ike a female John Entwistle (The Who).

Back in the 80's, I used to walk to school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, listening to this song on my walkman cassette player! Never realized I would miss that time so much as a 50 year old guy! What a great time to be a teen! The good 80's! Great music, great movies, great time!
What's a Walkman? lol. Just kidding. I had one too😅
I was 24 when this was released and heavily into Heavy Metal. To this day this song always put a smile on my face.I truly miss the eighties. 😊
Same and similar - I was a 14 yo head banger - AC/DC, Ozzy, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Quiet Riot, Ratt .... but oy I had a super crush on Belinda Carlisle
I was into R& B , mostly Funk...I played acoustic guitar since grade school...first house on the block with MTV in the 80's...that 12 inch vinyl was hot...the extended mix...there was even a dance called the Valley Girl...basically what Belinda Carlisle does in the video!
The vocals, the harmonization, the beat, the chords, the drums, guitar the individual talents....unsurpassed. it's no wonder Belinda and gang were the force they were in the 80's
Brad Gibson: absolutely. It's a shame they broke up way too soon!

I LOOOOOVE this song!!!! I love their music and this is my favorite Go-Go's song. I'm so grateful to have been a teenager in the 80s. When I watch music videos or listen to songs from the 80s, it makes me extremely nostalgic. I really wish I could go back and re-live it all over again. AWESOME TEENAGE MEMORIES ❤❤❤❤❤
Music from the mid 50s - early 90s was the Golden Age of popular music. Commercial interests got too involved after that, and a subsequent decline in music as a whole occurred. Love the Go-Go's and so much more from the 80s!😍
Yep, good times!!!
mine too still play this all time i love her lil dance 😂
Awesome band, " punk" pop ? They had their own sound and genre. I had a few secret listens and these ladies were one of them. A dude in the 80's seemed to be all metal all the time, however we appreciated good tunes.
Makes me nostalgic also.
The Go-Go's - The best all-girl band in music history and no band is close to them. They rocked the 1980s and they are now in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Love them!
Bangles loser.🤣🤣
Idk. Have you ever heard Luscious Jackson's first 2 records? I agree everything the GoGos dropped was a big deal when it went down. You can't include acts like Heart or Veruca Salt, because of the men in these bands, so I agree with you. Just because they weren't my favorite doesn't mean they don't deserve that title.
What about The Bangles?

Classic Pop with a slight edge. 2024 and still listening.
I just love this song and the video. It starts out with Charlotte playing staccato keyboard notes creating energetic anticipation, then Kathy plants a base note while Gina simultaneously comes in with that heartbeat tempo and then Jane and Kathy start creating contours of the song with those chords...the rhythm chords and Kathy's signature melodic base are like gear shifts in this song. Fascinating. Then Belinda, she really has this flare of moving her body and interacting with the camera in such an entrancing way...not to mention that wonderful phrasing and vocal artistry. Such a talented group of musicians and performers.
My friend, you nailed in it in every conceivable way. You know music. If you ever want to compare Go-Go notes, I am here for you.

Same here, the break just is awesome!
That sweatshirt Belinda Carlisle wore was so......woah.
Born '83, but love the 80's as If I was there. Huge belinda fan all my life, but only heard of the go-gos recently. This is like finding out your favourite dramatic actor is ten years older than you thought, and has a whole career in comedy and musicals that you didn't know about! It's awesome!
Some songs just bring a smile to your face within the first few seconds. This is one of them.
I was 32 in 1984 and used to listen to this song on my portable radio in my patrol car (the city had removed the car radios because they didn't want us listening to music while on patrol. They just had the police radio in the cars.) while cruising the streets of the town I worked in on the graveyard shift. Made 8 hours of mostly no radio calls more enjoyable.
My wife gets mad at me because i stay up late reminiscent of the good 80s, she finds me eyes closed rocking my head to the music thinking I'm asleep. I'm just zoned out of this cheesy world we live on now.

You're so right about the world. We're surrounded by complete dorks now!
What drives me mad about this song and how amazing it is is that the handclap is a picosecond on or off and you can almost never get it right but if it’s just perfect….

I think it's the melodies!
A timeless classic suitable for all ages
Plus it’s got a great beat and it’s easy to dance to!!
I can't tell you how badly I miss lively, upbeat, colorful, spirited Pop music like this! The music acts of the 1980s were incredibly masterful at coming up with perfect little clear melodies like this, even more so than the Pop music acts of the 1960s (whom they took their cue from). I think it is impossible for someone like me, who grew up listening to such cheerful melodic Pop music to be able to adapt to modern music today. It's just not possible. It would be like eating Filet mignon and fresh lobster tail every day for a decade, and then having to eat a cold bowl of used gravy with a hair in it every decade afterwards.
A kick ass song where every instrument and vocals are clearly heard. That piano solo is something else.
Yes!!!! In our 50s now this was our time!!! The Go Go's 💕
Just such a solid, Rock steady band. Bass, Guitar, Keyboards, Drums and Vocals...all in perfection.

Being a college freshman in 1981 when the Go Gos were coming on to the music scene, I really liked their sound. At that time, “cool” guys would not admit to liking “girly” bands. All my male friends in the dorm (college dorms were mostly all male or all female at that time) liked groups like the Police, Journey, Boston, the J. Giles Band, and classic bands like the Beatles and Rolling Stones. So, I listened to the Go Gos in my car on whenever I was alone. All 5 ladies are terrific in their own right. Drummer Gina Schock really tightened up their songs and was underrated.

Can we talk about that top she is wearing? I remember in 82-Jennifer Beals wore one like that in “Flashdance”, Olivia Newton John wore one in “Lets Get Physical”. I was in high school, my sister went off to college, and on her first trip home she bought three friends from the dorms home with her. All 4 of them had “Indiana University” sweatshirts with the collars cut off like this. I think they just took a razor or scissors. Cut the ribbing at the collar off and the Jersey material automatically rolls like that. Belinda was the first to have an assymetrical one shoulder look to hers though.

The Go Go's looked so good on video that people discounted that each member is a great musician.
True Story Everyone: My wife and I went to an 80's flashback night in old Hollywood called "Blue Monday's". We were both teens raised in 1980's California, so, we didn't think much about going to an 80's night. Of coarse, we're the oldest people in the whole club, but we came to dance -- No matter what... !!!
My wife immediately noticed, that these kids didn't know "any dance moves" from the 80's. Then, this song began to play, so we decided to danced the "Valley Dance" and besides, she was a "Real" Valley-Girl anyway. How could we resist the temptation? We both, had to just ignored everyone else, while we did our thing, while we simply retreated into "our own world". The moves were second nature to us, as we both shifted, hopped, and swung in unison with the smiling brightness of Belinda Carlisle, herself. Neither of us, before were even slightly aware of how much attention we were attracting and suddenly -- We realized that we were completely alone in the center of the dance-floor. Normally, it would be a strange feeling; however, when surrounded by these fresh young faces, it was like dancing in front of our kids. And, for about 2 or 3 seconds, we started to noticed some finger-pointing and inquisitive looks, but, all that did was put us both, into overdrive... !!!
For a brief time, we became 17 again and popular. Apparently, these kids hadn't seen these "styles of dance" to match with each song before; yet, they must have recognized "it" from "you" their parents. After a short time, everyone else gained the bravery as they all started to follow everything we did. Throughout the night, for every song we knew the moves and everybody else said, "follow the old people". It was almost, as if, we were the "Senior Prom, King and Queen" all over again -- No, I was actually "Goth" and she was a "band-geek", just so you don't think we were actually the "King and Queen" of anything. But, it was a real Hollywood dream come true:
"Like, it's Like -- You know, For-surrre Duuude an Unbogus Event -- Totally ... !!!" Dudes, do you know how long it took me to unlearn using the word "Like", before everything you say? I still catch myself saying it.
By-the-way: They had to play this song twice, just because everyone missed-out on the first time around watching us. I highly recommend getting out there and go to any 80's flashback dance night and please remember the "claps"...!!!
Hollywood + 80's night + "real" 80's kids + original dance moves + new kids (your kid's) = Fun ... !!! Fun ... !!! Fun ... !!!
You lived the 80s movie dream!
Wow! Thank you for sharing! 🙂 One 80s kid to another!

TUBULAR!!!
Such a fun song. Awesome bass line, these ladies were impressive. And I always had the biggest crush on Belinda Carlisle when I was a kid. She was (still is) gorgeous.
I absolute LOVE the Gogos! I’m in high school right now, but 80s music is my fave. I’m def in the wrong generation 😭
This song is memorable to us. This is one of the favorite song collections from our parents in the early 80,s disco hits. Thank you so much for "The Go-Gos band", especially Belinda Carlisle - Heaven Is A Place On Earth. God Bless You All Very Beautifull ladies.
This excellent band will finally be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All I can say is, it's about time.
