Alastair is a journalist, author, strategist, broadcaster and host of the popular chart topping Podcast: @restispolitics
Alastair became a household name for his political roles during Tony Blair’s leadership of the Labour Party.
In May 2023 he published his eighteenth book, But What Can I Do?, a call to arms to people to get more engaged in politics. I’m interested in the Y behind Alastair writing the book having been continually asked by people, particularly young people, that are clearly disillusioned by the recent debacle we’ve experienced in UK politics.
His book ‘But what can I do?’ went straight to No 1 in the Sunday Times bestseller list in the first week of publication, meaning that at that time Alastair had both the number 1 podcast and the best selling non-fiction hard back book in the UK at the same time 👏🏼🕺🏼
I can’t think of anyone so closely related to UK #politics that I would look forward to talking with, as much as Alastair.
This undoubtedly for me is down to his authenticity and empathy with ‘us’ the people, about his articulation of his views on the current state of our politics, coming from a real lived experience
His relatability, again drawing on real life experience is further endearing to me with how open he is about his mental health journey, in particular with depression. Alastair is doing so much as a mental health advocate and in the words of his new book, I want to ask him ‘But what can I do’? 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔
