- Darth Vader. Yoda. Two of the greatest Force Users in all of Star Wars, and at their best, each of them can make a pretty strong case for the most powerful being in all the galaxy.
And today, well we’re gonna put that to the test! Using each of these characters in their primes, and including Expanded Universe lore, not just the new Disney Canon, we’re gonna see which one comes out on top - and really, is the fight between them even close? Well lets get to it!

Just because Anakin never reached his full potential, doesn't mean he didn't become more powerful after becoming Vader.

@@TheMasonson His potential got cut, for sure. And upon receiving those Mustafar injuries, he was 100% weaker than Anakin. But when he got back on his feet and became accustomed to his suit, say a little before the Obi Wan show, Vader would have obliterated Anakin no question.
@@animafia-family While Anakin would be the "prime" version of Vader in terms of physical abilities, he wasn't as mature as Vader was. We also never saw the prime version of Yoda. We saw a Yoda that was past his prime. You can argue that Palpatine was afraid of Yoda, and that's the reason he did all the smoke and mirror tactics before the Jedi counsel was destroyed.
For some reason people seem to think Vader was weakened to 80% of Darth Sidious's max strength in the force when he lost his limbs and got burned.
When in reality he was only weakened to 80% of his own max strength in the force which at 100% was literally DOUBLE the strength Darth Sidious had in the force.
The only reasons Vader never defeated Sidious are because of his suits vulnerability to force lightning, and the fact he focused more on dueling than the force itself even after his injuries.
If Vader has simply honed his potential in the force, he'd have annihilated Sidious.
Luke Skywalker watched both of them die in Return of the Jedi.
Luke also watched R2-D2 take a blast to the dome in Star War Episode 4 and die. Although a droid can be rebuilt with its processor still in tact.
Luke Skywalker would have been dead if wasn't for Darth Vader his father.

I don’t think that any force user has even been more powerful than Yoda. He’s the only Jedi that stopped force lightning with his hands. Young Anakin was super powerful especially after he first turned but he lost to Obi Wan. Yoda said that Obi Wan wasn’t powerful enough to beat Sidious. Yoda losing to Sidious was plot armor. Sidious tried to exit rather than fight Yoda.
Sidious is more powerful in the force than yoda but yoda is definitely the better duelist

Read the canon comics Sidous is the strongest character by far in canon, he drove dominated a kaiju and was able to withstand the blasts of star heat in the comics
@@tvvistedv3nom26 I’m not too convinced palpatine is more powerful than yoda, palpatine needed force lightening to push yoda in the beginning of their fight which yoda was capable of blocking but he didn’t react fast enough the first time to he got sent to the wall. Yoda simply pushed palpatine back into the chair and then sidious tried to run. He ran away from him again in their duel he realized he was likely going to lose eventually if he kept deuling him so he ran to the Senate chamber to throw the pods at him. Sidious prepared for that moment in the novelization he had a plan and home turf adavantage. If he fought yoda on solid neutral ground I really don’t see any way sidious wins in the end. Sorry for the essay but that’s just my thought process on those characters and what happened in their fight
@@markykrajky13 sidious is the strongest living sith during the events of star wars, he isn't the strongest sith of all though as that title goes to the 1st sith emperor valqoriant who became so OP that for the 1st and only time in history the sith and jedi orders had to team up to jump him and even that was not enough to beat him, it wasn't until the force itself turned against valqoriant that he was finally overwhelmed during the final battle and defeated/destroyed, just to give you a idea on how OP valqoriant is/was at age 6 he was able to instantly defeat a full fledged sith lord with a single thought and via force manipulation he literally willed it so that sithlord could never use/connect to the force again rendering him a regular person and as a adult he could use mind domination on entire planets to instantly enslave them then make the entire population of that world commit mass suicide and this once included a army of 8,000 other sith lord he lured to the planet along with a unspecified sized army of jedi (was atleast in the thousands) that was sent to investigate and deal with all the sith after they received reports a army of sith lords was amassing on that planet, he also had the ability to basically pull a galactus and literally devour/drain all the force energy/life force of all living things on a planet which he used to increase his own power and life span thousands if times over, now going to the sequel comics both luke and laya eventually become the 2 strongest recorded jedi in history and strongest mortal/non cosmic beings which includes anakin/vader and palpatine along with yoda, although it was recently revealed in the new ashoka series that after anakin/vader died at some point anakain/vader finally fulfilled "the fathers" request and replaced him as the new keeper of balance of the force and also the fact anakain/vader has awakened his full chosen one potential and is now most likely the strongest being we have ever seen in SWs history, there are also other cosmic beings like the 5 emotion priests and the father,son and daughter who are shown in the clone wars and in the comics theres another cosmic being known as the mother of chaos who eventually will fight luke and a army of jedi and sith after she escapes her prison, the comics also talk about unexplored and/or forbidden zones where very powerful force wielding cosmic entities dwell that have powers far surpassing non cosmic beings, we may actually get to see the mother soon who goes by the name of abeloth as the recent/new ashoka series seems to be following a storyline thats from the comics that led to her escape from her prison and rampage in the galaxy, all of these characters/beings i have mentioned make even palpatine look weak

No, Vader wasn't the most powerful in the galaxy during the revenue of the sith. Sidious said he (Anakin) would become more powerful than either he and Yoda. Which would've been true... Had he not fight obi wan on Mustafar. But at that particular time no he wasn't the most powerful in the galaxy. Vader hadn't reached his peak. He was still an infant in the dark side when revenge of the sith took place.

Originally, Vader was always more powerful than Sidious.
He didn’t have to obey his master because of any threat of violence, it was the pact he made with Sidious and the dark side.
Lucas film repeatedly confirmed Vader was the Ultimate fighter. Bar none.

Suit Vader nearly CRUSHED Sidious when he got put in the suit and found out Padmé died.
The fact that Luke is the last hope of the Galaxy should tell you that Yoda was not on Vader’s Tier.
Obi Wan in the New Hope Movie is stronger than Yoda and has a precise mastery over the usage of The Force.

No Yoda was far more powerful than Sideous. The only reason he lost was because he fell and the clones were coming to the senate chamber. So he would be outnumbered if he stuck around.
Yoda would win. He is too smart and studied. Mastered everything over centuries. Plus he is crazy fast when he needs to be. His force power is too strong. His absorb and telekinesis. No way he loses this fight. Maybe on his deathbed, but in his prime. No way.
Yoda reminded Luke that the dark side was easier, not stronger. Yoda earned his power the correct way. Fundamentals, discipline, knowledge, experience, technique...Yoda had everything but size

Dude, IF you watched episode IV's lightsaber duel between Vader and Obi Wan, you'd clearly see that Obi wan sacrificed himself during the duel. Vader didn't beat him. Obi wan became a force ghost, Vader's blade hit NOTHING!

At that point when Obi-Wan was fighting with Vader, he looked over his shoulder, realized Luke is there and watching them. He knows this is the only chance to "motivate" Luke, so he sacrificed himself in front of Luke. To create a path for him to Vader. That duel was so equal, they would have fought for years. It's so obvious when I was a child I understood it...
@@SheepEnlightener Yeah, the very fact that Ben was able to become a Force Ghost makes him one of the most powerful Jedi in galactic history. The movie doesn't show it but Obi-Wan was a powerhouse during Episode 4. I'd say that he passed Windu, simply because he could train for 19 years in order to do so, and came very close to Yoda. Ofc disregarding Disney's fan fiction. If he shut himself off from the Force for 10 years, there is no way he could stalemate, let alone beat Vader. So the Obi-Wan series is complete crap.

@@messiahep3249 Yeah, I was gonna quit after 1 minute because there was just too much BS. But then he retracted Episode 3 being Vader's peak, so I stuck with it. And then he went back to Episode 3 being his peak. Episode 6 was ofc the peak of both Vader and Sidious, there is just no way around that. They spent 23 years delving deeper into the dark side, that's enough to make up for Vader's setback on Mustafar. And Yoda's peak is somewhere between Episode 2 and 5, so at least he got the peaks right. I disagree with the conclusion though but that's always gonna be up for debate.

Facts Vader's power is not to be underestimated
yoda was clearly holding back against dooku, trying to turn him back o the light side. you can see in the fight how quickly dooku goes on the defensive. if he hadn't fled by using anakin and obi one as sacrifies he would have lost. ie if yoda didn't let dooku flee to save obi one and anakin.
Actually, Yoda wins without even drawing his lightsaber...he uses the Force to shut of Vader's power supply to his suit! Vader suffocates and dies!
Yoda absorbs lightning but he doesn't use it since its a dark side force. He CAN counter it but that's only after absorbing it.

Second, no he didn't. Vader did not defeat obi wan in a new hope. Obi wan gave himself up and become one with the force before Vader could strike him down. Obi wan didn't fight Vader with the intent on beating him. It was another lesson obi wan needed to teach his old Padawan. In reality, obi wan is 3-0 against Vader. 3-0 against maul, but 0-2 against Dooku. Quite a resume if you ask me.. And I didn't even mention Grevious.
The novel states otherwise. He was too weak at that point physically to withstand Vader. Also all the other times he won were due to anakin’s inner conflict and on mustafar his arrogance. Plainly just plot armor as even Lucas explained anakin was above Kenobi by ROTS. He was only behind mace and yoda out of the Jedi by that time and obviously behind sidious

Yeah, DanCo really dropped the ball. In Canon, it was blatantly established that Vader's injuries amplified his power in the force, not hindered them. Vader was even stated to be the most powerful sith in the galaxy, with one of said statements even being attributed to Vader not even a decade after Episode 3. Yoda at his prime was still a drop in the ocean that was Vader's power. In Legends, although Vader lost potential, he still remained immensely powerful, with material blatantly stating that Vader became stronger following his defeat on Mustafar. Vader wins, mid diff.
yeah all his loss on mustafar did was lower his ultimate potential but he increased his power in the dark side and even with his lowered potential he was still the most dominant force in the galaxy under the Emperor for a long time
He also forgot that vader is 80% of the emporers peak not the emporer in RotS. The emporers peak is way higher than RotS and Yoda lost to that emporer so there is no way he'd beat Vader imo.

Yoda used the force to drive his light saber. His dualing was through the will of the force not his physical prowess.
Obi-Wan actually basically surrendered by choice. He wasn't beaten in the last fight at least not in the classic sense of being beaten.

Darth Vader is 45 years old and in good health relatively speaking.
Yoda is 900 years old and in bad health literally speaking, he is sick old and dying right in front of Luke’s eyes so Vader would win with absolute ease.
Vader got overall more powerful once he was in the suit, but Yoda would have had an easier time with him. and even on Mustafar, Yoda would have bent him over almost immediately

The only reason why Yoda didn't go to Mustafar himself to stop Anakin is because he would have been sending Obi-Wan to his death to face and square off against Sidious. Even though Anakin had off the charts power when he finally fully connected with the dark side, he would have made fatal mistakes facing Yoda. Yoda had the clear advantage of centuries of knowledge in the force over Anakin. Yoda would have defeated him and finished him off. Probably would have cut off his head in a final blow. Especially after reviewing the files and seeing what Anakin had done in the Jedi Temple. Yoda knew Anakin was nobody to underestimate.

Anikin and Luke had 6 weeks of training combined, and people keep comparing them to 800+ years. Wow.
What are you talking about? Anakin trained for 36 years. He even had a greater potential than Tenebrae, which was way beyond Yoda. It's true that he had a huge setback on Mustafar but 23 years of misery (fuel) under the tutelage of the second most ruthless Sith Lord in galactic history was more than enough to make up for that.
The fact of the matter is that Episode 3 Vader was very close to Windu, Yoda and Sidious, they were all 9's according to Nick Gillard. And Episode 6 Vader went beyond that, I don't see how he couldn't. He stalemated Obi-Wan during Episode 4, an Obi-Wan who was very close to Yoda at that point. Assuming we ignore Disney and he actually spent 19 years training and not cutting meat. And after Episode 4, Vader got even more powerful. So ofc he could win against a Clone Wars Yoda. And during Episode 5, Yoda was only 1 year away from dying, so that was probably not his peak.
@Sandlund93 Anakin was never fully trained. He was never trusted by anyone. You're counting Sidious? Oh, please. He put a lighting rod up his behind and kept him like a pet. He was a mental basket case. He kept himself in a pain amplifier so he would stop crying. His aura is created by his perception. Fans made him intimidating. High ranking officers spoke to him like the Emperor's valet two decades after the emperor took over.
End of the day over 800 years of training, meeting, fighting, in the minds of the greatest Jedi of those times. Yoda is way beyond either of them off of repetition alone. Secondary stories and comic books aside. It's not about potential. What shoulda woulda coulda happened. Neither Anakin or Luke met anything people wanted from them. Ever.
@@mistermyself1128 I'll admit my Sith bias. I still only have 3 people above Yoda though and he would obviously be the greatest challenge Vader ever faced. But matchups that never happened are always gonna be shoulda woulda coulda.
When Vader wanted to hunt down Yoda, Palpatine told him that Yoda would have killed him as Anakin AND as Vader. Also, Sidious actually said Vader "will be" more powerful than them, thus, he wasn't quit there yet.
There is ove extremely important aspect of Vader you are missing. The constant battles he had to fight. Take a fit guy in his prime, hitting a bag in a gym and a street guy fighting every day for survival. Most of the time, the street guy is going to win. Getting hit isn't natural. The more you fight and get hit, the more you can take. I'm not saying Vader would win, but it's closer than you think.

@@Wes_Bradley-Taubner Yoda’s body by the time of TESB was confirmed to have grown very sick. He was holding himself together with the force to train Luke.
There’s also statements in a couple prequel era novels that imply that Yoda even then was slowing in combat as well as not having as much of a command over the force due to age.
Remember yoda would’ve been the equivalent of someone in their late 80’s by the time of the prequels.

The Jedi held him back on a lot of ways to help him understand and how to train and use his powers he was destined to get. As he turned he was feeling a power that he knew was powerful but at the same time he really didn't understand them yet, didn't know how to really use them or even know just how many things he was going to be able to do. That's because the Jedi between not trusting in him,fear, and I think even some jealousy. By this age they should have had him at the temple with Yoda,obi wan or at least another really powerful master to guide him through the learning of these unbelievable powers he was already near having at full potential. But no they chose to ignore him,not do the things he really needed to be the chosen one as they built him up since he was a kid. How do you not take the most Powerful of any Jedi to ever live,not just the Jedi but powerful then any sith also. How do you just ignore him and yet,make him be around, and alone with a Chancellor that none of you trust , how. The only thing that kept obi wan alive was the conflict Anakin was fighting inside himself the whole time they fought. If it wasn't,he would have killed obi wan pretty fast because one thing he did understand with the lightsaber and dueling. If he had killed obi wan,that would have pushed any other feelings for the Jedi out of his mind. If he then fought Yoda, Yoda would have had to flip and jump like crazy just to try and keep p from getting hit by the saber and that would tire him out fast and then he would be killed. It's sad how this whole story is but the Jedi made him turn more then anything else. All the things they pulled and done against him and the Jedi codes were terrible. Even his Master and father figure does a forbidden strike on him that leaves him without his arms and legs. Think about that,all the shit that they had done the last and most betrayal one could do,is a move that isn't allowed and forbidden is done to him. I'm sure Anakin and anyone else would rather have been killed then left that way and to make things worse. He has to feel the torture of being burned almost to death as he's being watched. Yeah it's pretty terrible if you really think about everything that actually went down with him.

I agree yoda would beat anakin but anakin didn’t lose to Kenobi because of skill. Lucas made it clear anakin was above Kenobi in every way and was only behind mace and yoda by ROTS he lost due to his own arrogance and inner conflict against Kenobi
Vader became way more powerful in both dueling and the force after ROTS he also got smarter and wiser in the force and his tactics, ROTS Vader was just the start and although injured at the end he still gained in power

This is fundamentally wrong. You claimed that Vader lost much of his potential AND his power after he was put into the suit. That's incorrect. He simply lost most of his potential. Vader post-Mustafar became far more powerful than he was before he was burned. He simply could not ever reach anywhere near his full potential had that not happened.

Is your claim that Vader was faster than the Emperor made off that one scene is lords of the Sith novel where Vader blocked Palpatine’s strike? If so there’s important context of knowing the Vader confirmed that the Emperor was only using a fraction of his power that day a wanted to appear weaker than he actually was inorder to test Vader’s loyalty. It’s more than likely Palpatine could be MUCH faster than he was showing off in that moment.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. It's definitely Darth Vader, tho I would argue the battle is closer than most. Yoda is a powerful duelest but doesn't have the endurance to continuously fight, especially with Vader being even more skilled in both lightsaber duels and the force. Anakin lost to Obi Wan due to him being all tunnel vision and addicted to the darkside that it blinded him.
1. Yoda uses force when fighting, NOT his physical endurance.
2. Lightside Grandmaster vs Lord Sith has NEVER favored the Sith, hence why they could never completely take over the galaxy and only had temporary control at best, and of only small sections if you look at history.
3. Varder is not more powerful than him in the force. The dark side force is a perversion of the force, not the force itself. It is fueled by rage, jealousy, and emotion, which blinds and corrupts the user, whereas the light side is just pure channeled force.
Anakin would've been the most powerful Jedi to ever exist had he stayed on the light path. He is still the most powerful Sith but only survived as long as he did because the order fell apart, otherwise, he would've been quickly disposed by the order just like every other Sith lord that rose to power.
@@cassianomota8574 So for 1, I know every force user enhances themselves through the force, especially Yoda to compensate for his size. But what I was addressing is that form 4 is a very offensive, quick burst of movements style fighting that will tire out the user. A perfect example is Qui Gon, who lost to Maul due to him fighting in a prolonged battle and getting exhausted. We saw this when Yoda fought Sidious and wasn't able to continue after their force blast(yes i know the clones were arriving but Yoda addressing his loss was also due to him being unable to finish the job and being exhausted).
2 Not often times true, tho I do agree most of the time Jedi Grandmaster can beat Sith Lords but there around some who can be equal if not at times greater. Sidious would beat many Grand masters from the past, Darth Malgus if im correct did.

@@djb9267 Sidious grew in power in the time of his resurection in legends and in canon, so in the original trilogy his powers did not grow that much in comparison to ROTH, so he was still at Yoda level (Yoda from ROTH), so thet means Vader was at his best still only 80% of Sidous (ROTH and original trilogy) and 80% of Yoda (ROTH) ... Yoda > Vader.

Vader never beat Obi-Wan in lightsaber combat. Obi-Wan sacrificed himself so that Luke and Leia could escape.
That being said the verdict is right. There's no way Vader is beating Yoda. One of the advantages Vader has on most of his opponents is that they don't know his Identity. Yoda knows who Vader is just like obi wan. And as we saw in the dark Knight rises when bane called out Batman's true Identity... It takes away from the Mystique.
