Bright, poppy fun. Australian rock was going through a real purple patch at this point, what with the Go-Betweens, Triffids, The Church etc.

Part of the song is very similar to a track by the Remains ( the name of the song escapes me for the moment). The remains were an American band who supported the Beatles on their 66 tour.

Hey Lex, thanks for the comment. I thought it had that 60's feel to it. Good info.
      Cheers, Jon.

Lots of fun. It put another song from 1980 in my head - “What I Like About You.” But this leaned more into the garage rock sound.

There is a great documentary about Jeremy Oxley and his life battles with mental illness and its affect on his family and friends. If you listen to the lyrics on all the songs in their first album you can see the deterioration of a boy struggling with life.

Thanks Jon! Interesting choice from Sunnyboys. My favourite of theirs is Show Me Some Discipline and of course the bigger hits worth checking out (for those that are interested) are Alone with You and Happy Man.
I've also never thought of them as a 'surf' band. The paired back production is more like 'pub rock' to me.
PS: A Sunnyboy was an orange flavoured ice block in a tetra-pak.

Although I was initially disappointed it wasn't a Fall cover ('For your verbose kitchen'), this was an unexpected treat. To add to the list of possible influences, Dr Feelgood came to mind. Loved the solo, nothing groundbreaking but a very good tune.

Good hidden gem. Funny, when I saw the title, I thought "Is this an INXS cover?". But when I heard it, the vocals threw me off. They sounded NYC 77 punky with a Dick Dale influence. Then to hear they were Aussies, surprise! I can see Frankie and Annette twisting to this one...go choice guys.
If you plan to do more Aussie bands, I hope you hit The Go Betweens. Streets of Your Town is top shelf, but anything off 16 Lovers Lane is great.
As I'm typing this, word just hit about Sinead O'Connor. That's sad news...Requesting Stretched on Your Grave...so sad...

      Thanks Phil.
I know The Go-Betweens fairly well. 'Tallulah' was always my favourite album.
From your post I've just seen the news about Sinead. Loved her spirit - didn't take any crap from anyone. Her son last year, now her. Very sad news.
      Cheers, Jon.

Hey PP, thanks for your comments. What track would you recommend? Beyond this song I have scant knowledge of the Sunnyboys output. No promises, but we'll add any suggestion to our viewer request list to be considered. We drop a reaction to these requests every Friday.
      Cheers, Jon.

"Spindrift stinging my remaining eye." @Jon, nice Dave Allen reference at the close.
Good call by both Andy and Jon on The Kinks (early anyway) - that was my first reaction. As well as surf rock, I was hearing well-digested influences from Dire Straits, Blue Oyster Cult and Lynyrd Skynyrd, even, and probably lots more. I couldn't place the familiar-sounding blues intro, but the drum break had me reaching for "Wipe Out". Good tune, with some edginess to it.
While we're on about surf rock, balding old man sticks his foot on the monitor and doesn't break sweat (unlike the rest of the band) lRH_70_Foow

I used to see these guys in the early 80's, and I was always in the audience when the band did their performances on the Australian TV pop show, Countdown. My sister and I loved this band. Unfortunately, my sister also saw the dark side of singer, Jeremy Oxley, when he had his meltdowns on stage. He lost his career in the mid 80's due to schizophrenia. They were a quality band, and if you look beyond the surf and garage influence and heed to Jeremy Oxley's songwriter, you'll be as rewarded as much as their fans have been during the past 40 years. I think the ''surf'' rock is an appropriate call. Jeremy and Pete Oxley were surfer boys from Newcastle, NSW. Great band, but you started on an odd track. Alone With You should be checked out.

Hey Liveitup, thanks for your comments.
I already know 'Alone With You' - I choose this because I like it more! I'm sure there are some that will agree and plenty that won't - that's the beauty of music.
      Cheers, Jon.

@@theaudiophiles7889 That's cool! Is this a one and done for the Sunnies, or will you be doing other songs? It's great that you check them out. Nice part of my teen years in the early 80's.
