I just wanted to show a quick snippet of the chess pieces I made on my drill press. It was a collaborative gift for Steve Ramsey to complete his chess set. The following list is to other woodworkers that made pieces as well -
    MF Woodshop / mfwoodshop
    Steve Carmichael / carmichaelworkshop
    Nick Ferry / ferrynick
    Patrick's Workshop / patricksworkshop
    Carl Jacobson / haydenhd
    Mark Christopher / xgxdxer
    Jason McGinn / mcginnswoodshop
    Matt Brander / thebeardedwoodworker

I'm really impressed at how well they turned out, having been made on a drill press with only a chisel and sandpaper. I will definitely watch your other video on how you made the lathe setup.

Your a natural man, you turned it upside down because that is the correct way to turn something, you want the wide end of the object closer to the chuck ;)

Nick I think it was fine job. In a pinch I have chucked up brass ferrels in the drill press and taken a old file to make a pipe for tobacco of coarse, and things work out just fine then some emery cloth to finish up and all went well. And out of 1/4 inch brass rod I made a bunch of cribbage pegs. Any way my point is the ol drill press can be quit handy for some odd ball stuff and do a fine job.
And thank for all you share you have some great stuff on your channel... =O)

meh... don't worry about them being identical! We all are not identical so why does everyone want their things like this to be? :) I like character in things like this and identicalness (Is that a word?) is really not important! While I have a lathe and I am so thankful as I love to use it.... I could see myself, if I did not, have one doing this kind of thing with the drill press! :)

hell of a job there Nick, sure glad you were doing the dark side since you used Walnut, lol upside down was im sure because you always want the thicker side to the motor ( head stock) part. Great job with the pieces Nick! They look great, you proving that to make something nice most important is the maker and not the tools.
For tight corners you can try my method that I showed in one of the videos, sandpaper folded over hacksaw blade, works great.

Those bishops are not identical at all. I would like to see you make a replicating system for your drill press lathe. Then so you can make all the pawns identical, and then return one bishop to make it identical to one of the bishops you already turned. Choose which bishop you like the most.
