    Nice to see you expanding out into other things. Like the sign with the resin. Might want to invest in a hose hook up for the dust collection. Great job. Thanks nick!

    Nick, I really enjoy watching your channel. I noticed that you were working with your new router and carving tools but you must remember to clamp your project to a table or bench while you're working on it. I've been carving for years and seen many bad accidents from not using a clamp. Don't forget that you need all of your fingers.

  • @rtbiscuit
    @rtbiscuit 7 років тому +2

    Lovely bit of kit, you have 3 bases, a plunge base, a fixed laminator cutting base and the angle cutting base. if you used the fixed trimmer base and set the depth you can hold it like a warm cup of coffee with 2 hands and control the movements easier. down side is you have to lift and drop it t move between letters. but need to clamp the work sown if you like your fingers. I have the dewalt version which doesn't have the excellent angle base the Makita has, its one of my favourite tools. combine it with a router table and it will open a whole world of possibilities. my recent video has me using it to make a drill press table.
    excellent work by the way, love the inlay.

    • @nickzammeti
      @nickzammeti  7 років тому

      Hey thanks Richard, yes a few have said I need a clamp. so is this for clamping the work down? I had it on the floor, it seemed very stable on the floor mind and I didn't have any movement really. Oh sorry about the audio in this video it was all over the place, I uploaded the wrong version. . Hope to see you at MC in May 2018

    • @rtbiscuit

      Hi Nick the clamp is for the work. when you start using more agressive bits in the router it will stop it flinging the work out the way which could result in you catching your foot or hand. could just use a squeeze clamp and clamp it to the edge of a workbench. Definetely looking forward to makers Central; I 'm seriously thinking of running a school trip to it and bring either a minibus or coach load of my DT students with me.

    Hey Nick, not sure if anyone else has covered it, but just in case you don't know, direction of your routing is very important. You want to avoid what's called a climb cut. Most router motors spin clockwise. It's very important that you're always routing against the spin. Therefore, you always want to move around the outer edge of your piece in a counter clockwise direction, like you did in the video. This way, the router is always pushing against the direction in which you are moving it, and it won't try to jump out of your hands. Conversely, if you're routing an inner edge (imagine routing out the hole in a donut) you want to move the router clockwise, so that you're still working against the spin of the motor.
    If you put the router in a router table, always feed your piece from right to left, otherwise, the router can, and probably will, grab the work piece and shoot it across your shop.
    There are some cases where you need to use a climb cut. When working with certain woods, like Wenge, you can experience severe chipout on the corners. In these cases, a climb cut will give you better results, but you absolutely have to make sure that your work piece is secured tightly with feather boards and anything else you can think of the stabilize it. When routing freehand, make sure you clamp the work piece securely.
    Sorry for the long comment, but I'd hate to see you get hurt with your new toy. :)
    P.S. If I didn't explain this well enough, see this article:

      Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it across the pond :( But, I'll be looking forward to your documenting the fine times you guys have !!
      I turn wood, mill wood and make loads of sawdust as a hobby now. I got into video taping my projects as an alternative to my career in wood working, when I got interested in Astrophotography. I can share some of my experiences in both, here online but, as I am disabled and living on a fixed income, I believe I will not be doing much traveling anymore.
      I do love to travel and in my 30+ yr career in wood working as a traveling, high-end, mill works installer, I've worked in 47 of the 50 states and every city you can name about 6 or more times :) lol :) I'm now living in the country where I will live out the winter of my life. I was fortunate and am now still. I thoroughly enjoy everything as always and watching others online through UA-cam. I'm just a little slower now !! :) lol :) Thanks for the reiply and safe turning,

    Great info but your pulsating music is a real pain to listen to and try and understand what you are saying. However good content 👍

    Typical MAN play first read second. We bought our daughter in law a Tassimo for her birthday & today we unpacked it. After looking at the instruction pictures...no words...we watched 2 youtube videos on HOW to use it. Then we cleaned it after that made my Granddaughter a hot chocolate & when that turned out ok we made a cappochino for my DiL. only thing we did wrong was put the expresso coffee through first then the milk. Took us about 1 hour lol
