"always best to wear protection" - now you tell me....4 kids later.... ;-)
Awesome!!! Finally a woodturner has mixed the leftovers with resin! I think I've commented on everyone's channel lol... Nick is the perfect guy for the job!!! Can't wait for the next video!
Watching this in 2020 and it was an awkward silence when you put the gloves on 😂😂
I thought the same thing!
He's become much more bright and confident from these videos. And better editing for more interesting videos.
They look awesome, I can't wait to see them turned.
Carl Jacobson hey thanks Carl buddy 😜👍🏽
Carl Jacobson your a master Carl Jacobson
They look like candles. Put a wick on top and troll your friends with them lol
MT: Gear/Man Stuff/Nature/Etc imagine them trying to light it 😂😂😂
How about dipping a sponge in resin? This could get you some interesting results when turned. Just an idea...
Greetings from germany,
Paul
Paul Urbaniak hey cool idea man . I'll try that 😜👍🏽
Nick Zammeti NZ WoodTurning
Nice. Good luck😉
I feel like penetrating resin might be a good idea for that.
You should turn these into planets!!
Yes!
Yes!!!!! Cut one in half and put in a large but flat piece of wood and make a Saturn with the colored resin the planet and the wood into the rings.
Capramane Games that’s an awesome idea!
I just wish I could do what u do
Next time you do this, you can save some resin and put a waste block in the middle of the mold. Would give you a solid piece of wood to connect to your lathe! They all came out amazing and the color choices was brilliant
Great idea wish I would have thought of that a few weeks ago.
Hi Nick-I'm fascinated by your wacky mind. I was wondering if you've ever used a hollow cake pan for a resin pour? Betty Crocker bake and fill cake pan might allow you to do layers of craziness. Just a thought😃
I'd love to see shavings of neon crayons. I think it would look amazing
Sweet! Can't wait to see how they turn out! 🤘
Heath Knuckles haha thanks dude ✌🏽👌🏼👍🏽😜
Snake wood
That pun is awful and I absolutely love it.
To be continued? Why must you toy with us?!? Those blanks are awesome! Can't wait to see what you do with them.
Lara-Brandon Cabazos lol hehe 😊 sorry 😜👍🏽 thanks for watching Lara
Lara-Brandon Cabazos he toys with us to keep us coming back
Lara-Brandon Cabazos he has us addicted 💯 😂 cant wait to see them either 💞
Yep. I'm with you. He's toying with us.
Did he ever do anything with them
Nick, if you're ever looking for some crazy exotic wood and burls, I know a great eBay store that has the highest quality of exotics! exotic-wood-n-burls is the name of the store, you'll see a crazy wooden sculpture that they created for their picture. You can probably just search for black and white ebony, iron wood burl, Asian Satin burl, Sinora burl, Wild Almond burl, or Mun Ebony and find them. I believe that they ship everywhere, and they do both buy it now and auctions every week! Tell them I sent ya 😀... truly amazing people, it's all family ran from getting the wood in Laos to making the sculptures and then cutting and selling the wood!
Phillip Taylor hey thanks buddy I'll look this up mate 😜👍🏽
Nick Zammeti NZ WoodTurning no problem! Just leave the Asian Satin with birdeyes for me!!! 😂👍
I have every piece they offer and pretty much everything is ready to turn besides the B&W ebony. It takes awhile to dry, so it's covered in wax. But the iron burl is crazy wicked, some of the best pieces have awesome bark inclusions that you can add some epoxy and pigment and make an incredible piece of art!
Nick Zammeti NZ WoodTurning Also, do you know if the guys you get your epoxy and pigments from ship to the states? I can't believe how hard it is to find pigment, that isn't so damn much!
I only need 3-4 colors and not that much of any since I'm doing 2 projects with it.
Hell, I'd trade you some wood for pigments lol 😂😂📦🇬🇧🛫🛬✈️🚏
I do have some killer pieces haha
Your not your goofy silly self... Be yourself don't let viewers tell you how you can be! It's your channel! Tell em to piss off!
♥️🐾🙏
For the pink, purple and blue shavings from the vase you could do a stacked coaster set?
Those mica powders are beautiful! Looking forward to the end result!
fantastic work you do!This is the only video channelI have ever commented on,keep up the good work, mate
hey thanks Jan., thats really cool
I really love your work with the resin stuff I got a question why use the pressure tank . and what kind is it , i am thinking about making the wife and I some of those thing with all the color stuff , I liked the one you made with alum shavings in
Your channel has turned into my happy zone. Beautiful work.
hey thanks amazing thank you
Stupid question I’m sure but I’m not familiar with these processes. Is the pressure pot used to remove the air? I’ve seen crafts done with resin that use a torch to remove the bubbles after it cures. I’m assuming the pressure pot basically removes that step.
I honestly thought they would come out looking like garden waste! but you have made some lovely blanks !
Adrian Moore haha thanks Adrian
could you have video on what resin you use and your air pot to help use get started thanks
These are amazing! These would be pretty cool to see turned into something like a cup or tea cup or even coasters so you can see through the resin and see all the shavings!
Are the purpleish shavings from a spectrafly(sp?) project? I ordered some pen blanks of the multi color laminated wood and they're bright as hell! Gonna try and make a knife handle out of them.
Phillip Taylor yeah from CWP 👍🏽
Nick Zammeti NZ WoodTurning I'm not sure who I got them from. The color combos are amazing! I really like some of the more earth tone blanks!
Nick Zammeti NZ WoodTurning if you want to make something really funky and amazing, get some veneer samples or "variety packs"!!!
I got an exotic variety pack and put one on top of the other while using gorilla glue in between. I used probably 6-8 ounces of glue lol but it turned out stronger than plywood!!! It's hard as a rock and when sanded, it's look is amazing! The grain patterns you get are awesome! You could get a pack for around $15 and if you cut it, you would definitely have enough for a bowl to turn!
This guy reminds me of Peter Brown give this comment or like if you know who Peter Brown is
Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I had the same idea when I planned 70 bf of sapele and saw all of the shavings on the floor and thought what a waste. I have no experience with making my own resin moldings.....yet.
Do you have links to videos of you turning these blanks?
So pretty! Do you use a mold releas for those bowls? If so, what kind? New to this ... Can you use mineral oil as release? So gorgeous!
I wanted to see what you made with all of them. :/
I wish you had used the natural wood color for one of them so we could see what those colors did in clear resin
Maybe next time???
defo buddy
what does the pressure pot do? does it take the air out of the resin? is it necessary to the process
Came out Nicely Nickster! They look Killer Brother! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
TheWoodWerker thanks buddy .. you too man ✌🏽
Nick,
You should let the viewers vote on which one you end up turning. Make a little contest out of it..... The blanks look great and they will all be beautiful with whatever you decide.
Margery K hey good idea but I've already done this now dam 👍🏽 next time
Dremel makes a plastic polishing bit.
Can't wait to see what these will look like turned. Between you and Heath and all your amazing resin projects, it's just a matter of time before I plunk down the bills to set myself up the start making my own.
ManCraftingTM hahaa thanks buddy . I do love using resin 😜👌🏼👍🏽
Hey Nick, nice work once again! What are you using to get the post pressure pot pieces to slide out of the containers so easily? Looking forward to see what you turn with these.
Funny, you don't sound like a Kiwi (wink)
I'm having trouble mixing the resin to the right consistency. Any chance you can help me out with this. Thank you
Keep in warm place. and make sure you use exact measurements.
Its like a more solid pycrete. You should do a block of the resin and pycrete and test the strength of both
They kind of turned out like bowling ball patterns
Love your videos Nick, only recently found your channel so I've been catching up! I'm planning on buying myself some resin for a prank Christmas gift, could you give me an idea of how much I would need to cover an area of roughly a £20 note + an inch all around?
=)
Jon D hey buddy thanks for coming over to the channel bud. Not s lot for that mate get it from resin4art.com great stuff 😜👍🏽
Stick them all together and make a vase
you tease.
lindsay gardner lol 😂👍🏽
What you should do is use a mesh strainer to remove all the wood dust shavings. That way with clear resin, the wood pieces would come out much clearer, rather than letting all the really small dust pieces cloud the resin making it darker than usual.
Just subscribed to your channel - you come up with some great ideas to try. Cheers!
hey Thanks so much
A little pro tip to help you mixing resin. If you go to the local thrift store, you can find mixing beaters, like you'd use for baking and if you install them on a drill, they're perfect for mixing resin. You can get about 30 uses out of them, before either cleaning with a grinder or just tossing, but it'll save you so much time, compared to hand mixing and you'll get better consistency every time.
Could make some cool coasters out of them
Hey yeah defo, I haven't made any coasters yet, ill add to the list man., thanks
Ready to tokarki. It is not necessary to wait until dry!
Аleksey Bek what's a tokarki? 😳😂
Work on a lathe, a brief tokarka.
Sweet, looking forward to seeing the green blue one turned!
Stuff I Made haha thanks for watching buddy
Where do you get your wood from?
You really love making pots and bowls dont you? Lol
lol
The spectraply is amazing. That video turns up every where now. The one with the vase. Really cool stuff.
Jimmy Salsbury thanks buddy yeah it went nuts 😜👍🏽😜
Nick what resin do you use?
lol.. www.resin4art.com
Hello, I enjoy your videos. Do you use a vacuum pot or pressure pot to remove air bubbles from the mixture?
hey bennie, I only have a pressure pot and this works really well all the best
Make them into coasters
Niiicckkk use a magnet to raise metal shavings in setting resin be a cool vid 🧲🧲🧲🧲🧲🧲🧲🧲
Can you use a syringe for the coloring and add it after all is mixed. So it would leave a stream of color throughout? Maybe even swirl the syringe as you pull it out? Just an idea.
Wonder how much $ this project costed in epoxy
yesss been waiting for this video ! black/pink looks like galaxy ! blue/green looks like peacock, and if you have any left overs still of the specialty shavings you should do a pen 😍 cant wait to see you turn these 💞
why the pressure pot?
clear epoxy + LED base = bada$$ lamp!
Nick, do you use a release agent in your pots to aid in getting the set blank out f the mold
Regards
Stephen
Those are beautiful blanks!! Wish my skills were good enough to do stuff like that. Quick question: Did you use a release agent when casting those?
Love the blanks, especially the green one, being as it's my favorite color! Thanks for the entertainment Nick!
how bout a candle in resin , or candle shavings
Hey where do you get the green and blue fillers from and what are they called? Hope you get back with people's comments. Thanks
Stick some colored pencils and such down through the shavings at angles for a special surprize when turning.
My boys and I just love your videos. I'm going to call you psychedelic Nick.
quedo muy bien , no siempre la viruta es basura , se la puede aprovechar.....I am very well, not always the chip is trash, you can take advantage .....
Hey, do you pour some liquid or what, so you can easily take out the resin from the pot... Tq...
What are you using for coloring
hey Ken, they are allumilite diys
Are those High Back Seats for a Lambretta Scooter in the background?
I wonder what ill make....hmmmmm. maybe a pot! every, fuckin, video. Great content tho. Very skilled.
OK, so next time you do this..... How about making a thin layer of each wood color in resin. Maybe do the dark shavings in white resin, and the lighter ones in black. So you end up with a stack of flat sheets of resin 'cards'? Then you 'glue' them together with more resin (clear, or a solid color, something that looks good with the color of 'cards' being used). So now you have a block of striped dark resin/wood, resin, light resin/wood, etc...Something like the colored layered wood you've used before. That would likely look awesome. Even if you just used all dark shavings in white resin, glued together with white... the dark stripes of the shavings would probably look great. Just a thought!
I have attempted to replicate your technique. I used wood turnings from the lathe. The glued cylinder blanks I ended up with had many, many bubble holes through the piece. Turning it does not help. Curious as to what I might have done wrong? Too little glue, wrong wood shavings? I did not put in a pressure pot-left standing overnight. Thanks in advance for your insights.
This is amazing!
I know it's been a while, but if you have transformed these into anything, could you include their links? Thanks!
Check out Peter Brown's channel, specifically the video called Son of Lava bowl. He mixes a certain resin with a type dye color that makes a reaction when you mix them that's really cool! You may like it and hopefully try it. I'm sure he wouldn't mind lol
Anyone like to hazard a guess as to why my laptop screen is being scrolled and my cursor shoved around (esp. towards the right edge/top right corner, "window close X"). Interesting coincidence that I randomly came to this video when 2 days ago I had cooking oil spattered into my eye. Must get some protective eyewear..
That Spectra-ply came out really dark for all the light colored chips and clear resin.
That small purple one would be excellent as a small change bowl.
You should turn some gear knobs that be so cool to have! I'd happily buy a few 😅
Very cool..Just can't tell how much resin you used for all those tests.. Can you tell me approx amount of resin by volume needed is needed for 1 liter of fine saw dust??? i also will be using it to fill hollow objects i make for strength only...so it does not have to be so runny.... i am hoping 7 parts saw dust to 1 part resin will or less will work... i can use a stick to fill and don't need to pour...any feed back is appreciated... thanks
If you haven't made anything with these yet, may i recommend candle holders? The cylindrical or slightly shaped ones for pillar candles...
I don't know why but for some reason 1 out of my 3 cats will watch your videos with me. I am usually lying in bed watching on my tablet and my cat lays next to me watching as I watch. Sometimes she tries to get so close to my tablet that I can't see. It looks like you have another fan. We will both continue watching your brilliant projects. Thanks for sharing.
Where did you get those molds? They slide out so easily. Thanks.
the green/blue one kinda reminds me of the inside of the egg of the creature from the movie water horse
Based on the cost of resin, I am surprised that you don’t include a sacrificial cylinder of wood suspended from the top down. Perhaps hot glued to a mixing stick that would rest across the mold and rubber banded down before placing in the pressure pot. Something to chuck into lathe and remove later.
You could cut the blanks into rounds perhaps and splice them into things. Or use them as medallions in the center of bowls? Just a thought. They are all quite lovely.
This was the golden era of NZ videos. Like the Nick Zammeti show. Not too focused on the production, just spending some time with Nick.
Dear nick you said you were looking for blanks have you tried lizard blanks, I may have all ready sent this before. But what the hay.
Ingenious use of what waste wood. Look forward to seeing how the green blank turns out. Subscribed .
There's an interesting material that was developed in WWII called pykrete, that is made up of wood shavings and ice that is comparable of not better the concrete, that'd be interesting as a project.
the shavings are from SPectraPly
CWP-USA they are Eric thanks . The vase did really well in social media 😜👍🏽
Not probably the effect you are looking for but you can use allot less resin and make a very solid wood-like block by casting the shavings under pressure.
Loving this one Nick. I recently made a pen blank with left over sycamore shavings. I think its great way to maximize your return from the wood. Looking forward to seeing what you turn with that blank.
I vote greeny blue one!
Like the purple, you save your waste, that's good, I just might purchase one from you.
I'd like to see resin with shavings just 'floating' in it; either just 1 kind or with several kinds floating around. Would look cool as a platter or even a night light.
I wish you would have done one with all the shaving mixed together. Maybe all mixed up or maybe layer I think that would have been cool
I wonder if you could make a vase out of the resin blocks cut up and put back together like the wood block vase you made... Idea? 😀
You should make some pen blanks with the multicolor wood. Also I saw that vase featured on Facebook.
