Man, am I waxing nostalgic. My parents had them on one Christmas when I can still remember the silver Christmas tree with the color light filter rotating. Beautiful memories.
I'm a Black Man and I was a little boy when the King Family use to have their specials. When I ask my family and friends do they remember them they all say NO and I'm out of my mind. I tell them that they were really hot at the time and one of the sisters was on the tv show "My thress Sons" She was married to "Rob" the oldest son in the show. But no one seem to recall any of this but me. Thanks for posting, because I now have some proof! A BIG THANK YOU!!!!
You're so right! The Beautiful Blonde on "MY THREE SONS" is named: TINA COLE and she was shortly engaged to Don Grady - who played the oldest son, but then they broke up. She's still beautiful and very active in many projects.
Thank goodness for UA-cam, I was searching for the King Family for years. There are times I become nastolgic and yearn for the former variety shows and UA-cam provides these type of shows due to someone posting them. I clearly remember the King Family specials and I loved them, always wondered what happen to them They all were so beautiful and handsome. I miss those family variety shows. The closest we get to a variety show these days is watching Dancing with the Stars.
Aw...Sweet little petite Vonnie-- ^_^ We've just been reintroduced to the King Sisters, Family, Cousins, etc al. (thank you PBS!!!) and I just read that she's recently passed... Our prayers go out to the entire family-- Know that you all are in our thoughts! Bless you all for bringing us such joy ^_^
What a great vid! Such a treat to hear this again after so many years. The King Sisters' arrangement and performance of "It's A Grand Night For Singing" is something special indeed!
They were very popular in those days and seemed to have a special for every holiday all year long. Back when "specials" were the norm: Crosby, Hope, Andy Williams, Como, etc. Good, wholesome stuff.
That's a really interesting observation. I remember the King Family, too, but I never paid much attention to them. I only remember that they were on around the holidays and other times during the year. I think they had their own variety show. Wow! That's a real stretch for the old memory.
Well, I know that Liza was not one on the front line but I liked her and I was her companion for a couple of weeks when she was in Spain in the sixties. I wonder if she is still alive. Happy times
Marilyn (AKA Mody) is just as beautiful as I remember Marilyn and her sisters at St.Louis--on the Mississippi-, San Antonio, and Indiana.I miss her. Liam
Was this from Ed Sullivan's show? I hear someone who sounds like him introducing Alvino Rey and then hearing Alvino say "Well, here's *our* type of music, Ed!". Great performance! Although I only saw this clip for the first time on UA-cam, I could imagine myself as a toddler watching this with my family. Indeed, TV watching was one of the most communal things that families did back in the 1960s.
I hated this show when I was a child! Why? It replaced The Outer Limits on January 23, 1965 (which was on a Saturday night). So for the next few months after the cancellation, I would turn on the TV every Saturday night hoping and praying that The Outer Limits would be back on. Strangely, ABC did slip in two or three reruns of the Outer Limits when The King Family were out doing something else.
