Great video! I searched for this on a whim after my old speakers decided to blow out during my first online "covid concert". This is a much more cost effective option for me at the moment and it's greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to say Thank you for the video. I thought about this years ago and never decided to replace the blown speakers and just bought new ones from eBay. Just replaced them with the Dayton audio drivers and it sounds like day one again. Nice clean, crisp audio. Much Appreciated mang!!

Thanks very much for the video. Very helpful. Four comments (mostly based on what others have said):
1. The sound of the Dayton's is a bit darker than the originals. I guess I will get used to it.
2. The drivers appear to have been wired with reverse polarity on purpose, presumable to get them in-phase with the woofer.
3. I found a pack of 4x38 sheet metal screws at my local Ace Hardware that worked perfectly for attaching the drivers. $1.65 for 25 screws.
4. I used a little bit of shoe glue to secure the mounting screws from vibrating out, and also to reattach the two speaker halves. You want to be very careful to control any source of vibration, and I assume that the glue was part of the process to control cabinet vibration.

#4 3/8" pan head sheet metal screws work perfect to attach the daytons, you can tighten them down all the way and they sit flush
thanks for this video btw, never thought about just replacing the speakers and stumbled across this while trying to figure out what new setup to buy cuz my satellites are blown out and I finally got tired of the rattle. Got the daytons and saved a bunch of money, cheers!

Thank you. Life saver. Had this system for nearly 15 years. It has served me well and was not ready to let it go. Especially since nothing out today is worthy buying for a desktop 2.1 system that i could find. I need studio speakers. But not in a position to buy what i really want. Plus I've mixed and mastered music on these things for over a decade. Completely usable for that. I procured some screws but wasn't excited about the idea of boring into the housing and not sure of the longevity or sturdiness if they didn't catch. Not a lot of plastic there and kinda sketch. So i Krazy Glued them on >D Figure the original lasted 15 years so fairly unlikely these will blow in the near future, in fact the originals would still be fine but i got a little to partied up one day and cranked them waay too far. They sound exactly the same at default. I run a system wide EQ to accommodate my room. Soldered them in, took no time at all. \m/\m/

I would've had no idea on what kind of speaker replacements would've worked in these without you.
I've got to replace the rubber surround on the factory driver, because the original one started dry rotting and tearing apart.

Just bought these Dayton speakers on your behalf. They better be good man! Hahah. I also used a boxcutter to succesfully remove the foam on the old speakers since refoaming only costs like 4 bucks. Just for fun. I think refoaming isnt even that hard I feel like its gonna work. Thanks for showing how to take the sattelite speakers apart and linking the speakers!

Great Video Thanks. I have watched otto's video and the Visaton FRS 7-8 speakers seem to match up perfectly to the original holes so you can reuse the original screws it would seem. In my country (Australia) the FRS are half the price when compared to the Daytons which are $42 each! Cheers for the help, much appreciated.

Very helpful indeed - thank you. I did everything I could to stop that buzz in one speaker and now it's good (better?) than new. I used a hot glue gun to secure the speaker and it's fine so far... I checked 4 different Z2300 satellite speakers and 3 of the 4 had the black lead connected to the RED (+) terminal. The 4th had + to RED. The RED line is the center tip of the RCA connector - which is how it actually should be. I'm guessing the Logitech assembly line was not exactly up to NASA specs. A quick Google search says that polarity with speakers is not as critical as having all speakers connected the same - so I stayed with RED to the NEG terminal and they sound great all around. Also...Ya got laugh at the "port" on these speakers. You know what I mean if you've ever taken a close look... :)
Wow can't believe that many had the terminals switched haha I too have noticed switching them has never caused an issue but it does make sense that it would be best to match them in a whole system so that's good to know and will definitely remember that for any surround sound systems or additional speakers I add on haha thanks for the info and your comment :-)
You will want to switch polarity, see my comment above
I just noticed at 7:30 you are showing original soldering points and the red wire is soldered to the - terminal and the black is solder to the + terminal. That is exactly how it is on my speaker too. If both speakers are the same then it is ok (I haven't open my other one yet). But if originally both speakers (L and R) are connected this way and you changed this on your new speaker then it will be out of faze with the other original. Also I noticed the original speaker is 2-3/4" in size (2.75" not 2.5") and that is the reason why it is so hard to find the replacement.
Your choice is also better as it looks like it is shielded. Double neodymium magnet makes it better control of the cone.
Either way I will buy and replace mine as you did (except the wiring) as I am sick and tired searching the net for the right part.

Glad my video helped and yeah I don't think mentioned it but I'm pretty sure i kept the polarity of the wiring the same as the way I found it and the image at 7:30 was the other person's video but yes since I could not adjust the source wiring I installed the new speaker with the same connections to the positive and negative terminals

They are called female spade connectors. Im not sure what size I actually used but if you have your replacement speaker you can visit any hardware store to compare the sizes and see what fits best.
If you have any trouble with them or any other questions just let me know.
I would recommend soldering the wires to the speakers, the wire tips you used will fail because of the vibration. You won't get the full sound out the replacement speakers because the new speakers have dust caps and the originals have a metal cones which bring out more treble, higher frequencies. That's important because these subwoofers are powerful, they might overpower the satellites. Even the original speakers sometimes struggle to keep up with the bass. It's really hard to find parts for the original speakers but I would recommend taking the time in repairing them. Nice choice though, that's the closest after market Full Range 8 Ohms 20W RMS 40W Peak speakers that fit in the casing.
Thanks I unfortunately am not as much of an expert on audio equipment as I wish I was and totally understand what you mean regarding soldering them I was just lazy and went with the quicker option but luckily haven't encountered ay issues so far but will keep that in mind if I hear any change in the sound.
Sadly yes its hard to find as well a built speaker as was offered in the originals and maybe had I known to repair the speaker I would have done so and if you do and happen to make a video on how to do it please feel free to link it here to help any others in my situation.

Don’t get this rubber surround, it’s the wrong size, the foam one is the right size, can’t find the rubber kind that fits.
I have had these speakers since I was 16 years old back in 2006 when they were on sale at Best Buy for 120 dollars. I still use them to this day for my computer. Everything works perfectly fine EXCEPT for the spring that sits underneath the power button on the volume and bass control module, its worn out so every now and then the audio cuts out and I have to press power button a couple times for the spring to get back in the right place. Could you possibly do a repair video on how to replace the spring on the control peripheral? Actually also the audio jack for headphones doesn't really work on it too but that's been negligible for a decade now.
I"d rather not open up the unit until I have a reason to disassemble it but the access screws are located under the non-skid pads on the bottom I would try just opening it and see what's happening in there.
The spring is easy and just needs a slight stretch to maintain its connection. I've done this with chargers for tiny ear buds and its a fairly easy fix.
As for the headphone jack that will depend on the damage your unit has hopefully it's just a loose wire connection you can tighten and set right again but its possible the jack may need to be replaced but hopefully that's not the case if it still works most of the time.

Hello Brent, thanks for posting this. I just got my new DMA70-8 2-1/2" Dual Magnet Aluminum Cone Full-Range Driver 8 Ohm to replace my old & damaged Logitech speakers. I'm a little bit confused since you are connecting the red wire to the big pin. I noticed that my old satellite it was connected the opposite way (black to positive and red to negative). is that matter? Can you please clarify further? thanks

As far as my knowledge goes the positive and negative connections don't matter as long as you wire all the same way so just make sure your second speaker is wired however you do the first. For extra assurance I would try to just match how the originals were wired but if you already did your repair and switched to the same way I did it then dont worry it should work just fine but again just make sure you did the same set up on the other speaker.

I have to replace the right speaker I was wondering if anybody on here would know of the two options of replacement speaker which is the better one?
I would check out the full specs for each on the parts warehouse links I provided in the video detail section and choose from there. Low probability someone has replaced with both unless one failed and so far I haven't come across that with anyone.
The Visaton part says it has a waterproof if that helps your decision? haha🤷♂
Any other alternative speakers ? The one you mentioned are out of stock.
I provided two types of speakers that would work so I would either search for them from another supplier or find an alternative that matches the same size and specs. Good Luck!!

Are you talking about using a totally different satellite speaker on the system or changing out the internal component of the satellite speaker?
If its the full speaker you just need compatible hooks ups or splice the wires together to make it work
If its the internal speaker the measurements for what fits in the satellite casing is what matters which is why I chose the parts that I did.

hey helpful video could you have used the black bolts from the front of the speaker to screw the speaker in? or were screw the only way to do it given the angle thx
The bolts from the front are a different size than what's used inside so I would not recommend trying it. I used screws because the holes didn't line up perfectly so I needed self tapping screws to ensure a strong connection when fastening the new part inside the speakers housing.
You could use a bolt if the holes lined up and fit properly to secure the component nicely inside without any noticeable problems. Be sure it's not loose in there because then you will hear vibrations from inside when you use them with volume. Good luck!!

Hey Brent, i've read online that since the ports are actually sealed you're less likely to have problems with the speaker. I installed a different pair of daytons, one i actually glued in so it was completely flush, the other I screwed in so there actually was a little gap between the driver and the case. Anyway, the one that was flush actually blew out at less than a year old and only running at 75%, whereas the one with the gap is fine. So either I caught a dud, which is likely, or it's beneficial to have some air venting. Any thoughts on this? I'm considering putting some holes in the ports, which I understand can effect the bass a little. But can extend the life of the speaker perhaps. I still think I caught a dud. Any experience or thoughts on this? thanks

I'm rebuilding a logitech z2300 subwoofer. Currently couldn't find a proper voice coil 1.5" for it.
With which other speaker model can I replace it, because the Dayton Audio DMA70-8 cant find to buy it in Spain / Europa?

You should be able to order either one on parts-express and have it shipped to you
Otherwise I would recommend just finding something near you that has the same dimensions and speaker quality.

I have these speakers and replaced the right speaker with the Visaton. (Great video by the way) I still don't get sound from the speaker. Any idea what might be causing that? Thanks
Thanks glad you liked my video. If no sound is coming out my first guess would be that either one of you connections may have come loose or possibly could have them backward?

. As before.. Just not from the right one. I notice the cable that runs from speaker to back of subwooder looks like a regular RCA to speaker cable (red and black) maybe that's bad?

Mine right speaker is louder than the left one. Some say its the volume controller. But i'm not sure.
Its not the cable thats for sure.
I would check the connections making sure nothing is loose or having a less secured connection than the other. If they cables and the connectors are solid then it's most likely one speaker unit is failing causing the sound that is produced by it to be less than the fully functional speaker
@@BrentBurke13 Could be a filter cap on the bottom of the control pod PCB. Mine had a broken input wire and a filter cap with low reading compared to the other channel cap that reads 10k ohms. I replaced the cap and it fixed the low volume in one channel.

Thanks, that's such a great video! I've been using my Z-2300 with volume and bass at about 90%...Result, the left satellite is now buzzing at high volume. I am considering fixing it with the same speakers as the ones you used. However, I would like to know if there is a way I can completely replace the Logitech satellites with a pair of bookshelf speakers or studio monitors and keep the Logitech sub.
I would assume that is possible just need to use the same type of input plugs used on the original satellite speakers. You could probably repurpose the original connectors and just splice the wires together for the other speaker. My only thought of concern would be the amount of power sent through the wire not overloading the replacement speakers you connect. Never hurts to try but I would see about finding those audio inputs at an electronics store and fixing them to your alternate speakers just in case some how it blows the speakers you still have the originals to plug in as back up.

Same happened for me.. those speakers rip through their surrounds at higher volumes.. you can definitely swap them with other speakers I did it and used klipsch speakers which have better clarity and handle more power. Go for it!

@@christianmontesino171 I swapped them with some presonus speakers, and I'm very happy with them. I guess you plug yours directly into the sub's crossover. I use mine with a y splitter making the speakers and the sub play the same thing while being totally independent of each other.

I took the wire out so I can conect to better pair of 8 ohm speakers, sound much better
Also, as an updated Logitech connected these speakers in versus polarity from the factory, thus making the speaker cone "pull in" upon voltage applied. The correct fashion is the speaker cone should "push outward" when voltage is applied. Incorrect polarity will shorten the life and any speaker/woofer. I've email them the proof with pictures and no reply yet.
Its very interesting this reversed polarity has been noticed by a few people opening up their speakers. Thanks for that bit of detail and I hope they respond to your email. Curious what they will say!!
I have the replacement speaker I ordered same as yours from parts express but I am having difficulty opening the satellite speaker they must have used so kind of adhesive can any help me on that issue ? I tried to pry them apart and already marred up the finish on them
Are you sure you remove the screws behind the rubber screw covers in the corners? I have never heard of them using glue or any speaker usually for that matter. They will typically always have an accessible way to the speaker unit.
If there is in fact glue I would try using a razor blade to run the seem and remove the glue as best you can before trying to pry it open somehow but again that shouldn't be needed.
I would search as thoroughly as you can for screws as 99% of all speakers I have seen have been constructed using screws to hold them together in their casing.

original part how many watt?
The original satellite speakers were 40 watt, same as my replacement Dayton DMA70-8 speakers
