Hi Ariel! Shannon (mother of Natalie ) here. As soon as Natalie told me they were going on this pilgrimage I knew I had to send that book to you.Its from an exhibit that we went to at a college in Illinois, the name escapes me now,,,, But they had some of her clothes, her actual bed, lots of photos from her life and a TON of her paintings. Oh, and a scaled model of her and Diego's house. It was really something to see. I'm so glad the trip went well and you like the book. One day out of the blue Natalie sent me your house tour video and said, Mom you're going to love this, and I did! You really bring something special to the world, thank you :)

Ariel puts hours into planning and hosting an Anne of Green Gables pilgrimage to PEI as well as painting her bookmobile, getting all the merch ready, and so much more. I need this kinda energy. Instead, just THINKING about all that she does makes me need to lie down with a cold compress in a darkened room until I feel energized again.🤣

As someone with my father having passed away 5 years ago... hearing of you and your dad doing it together just warms my heart in such an incredible way!! My father was the handiest person I knew and he taught me so much. We fixed up my entire first house together and I have such fond memories of him teaching me how to lay tile and not be afraid to rip an entire bathroom out. I long for his help on my new house and all projects I dream of! Enjoy that time with your dad!! I'm so happy for you!

Hi, Belgian here, there are two kinds of Belgian waffles! You have one from Brussels, that's the one who is more like a 'normal' waffle, airy and fluffy topped with powdered sugar or other kind of things like chocolate, whipped cream, fruits for the tourists. The other kind is from Liège (french speaking part of Belgium), and that's the one with the big sugar parts in it!

I think probably the reason Suzanne Collins stays within the Hunger Games universe if because she uses the genre/universe to comment on things happening in our world now? I think with this one she said she's commenting on propaganda and the many being ruled by the few.

My wife and I organized our own Green Gables experience on our trip to PEI a couple of years ago. This included a play in Charlottetown, the house tour in Cavendish, the cemetery visit and various hikes to and from points they traveled all those years ago. I knew *of* the book and the author but being there was surreal and almost magical. I wish I knew of your pilgrimage, you certainly would have been the icing on the cake had we been there around the same time (I believe we preceded you a couple of years). Next trip to PEI, treat yourself and your new husband to a Michael Smith Fireworks Feast experience in Souris. You won't regret that either, I promise!
BTW, I have the exact same ornament as you. I absolutely love the colours.

Hey guys! Love the podcast. I never watch it on UA-cam, but came on here to comment. I wanted to comment two weeks ago. Having lived in Belgium, there are two types of Belgian waffles! The waffles you are talking about are Gauffres de Liege (or Liege Waffles), they sprinkle brown sugar on the wafflemaker before putting the batter in, it's also a more oval shape. Liege is a small city in Belgium. The other waffle is Gauffre de Bruxelle (or Brussel Waffle), they are rectangular and ones you'd traditionally find in other European counties or I guess Canada. End of waffle rant. Thank you for the pod.

Shout out to Raeleen for always being a supportive friend to Ariel and her ideas and adventures!
Several episodes ago, Raeleen mentioned "If We Were Villians" by M. L. Rio, and it intrigued me. So I finally looked up the audiobook through my local library and loved it. It was read by Robert Petkoff and was SO good. I highly recommend it to anyone that is into theatre/drama and mystery! Thanks for introducing it to me, Raeleen!
I've also listened to "True Grit" (again on audio from my local library) and really enjoyed that as well, and "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" (which Raeleen DNF'ed!). Thank you both for rekindling my love of reading, even if it is predominately auditory.
On the topic of unlikable characters, I tried, really tried, to read "The Dark Hour" by K. J. Young. I couldn't finish it. Despite how curious I was to find out what was going on in the house and with the old siblings... I couldn't get past the dislikable main character. He really was not my cup of tea.
This is getting to be quite a long comment so I'll wrap up. I'm really looking forward to seeing the truck completed and hearing all about your maiden voyage! Bon voyage and good luck!

"Liege waffles" are the ones made with sugar crystals, they are usually thick and more tasty, and the batter is more "bread-like" when is comes to the preparation. Belgian waffles vs "American" waffles are both made with more of a pancake-like batter, the only difference is Belgian uses yeast and American uses baking powder, according to some sites

Found this info from an initial search:
Spotify compensates audiobook rights holders based on how long and which titles are listened to. According to Bloomberg, some deals with large publishers may trigger a per-book payment when a customer has listened to 10-20% of the book, while others may require the customer to listen to the entire book or for partial reads to add up to 100%. Spotify also offers non-exclusive deals, which result in smaller royalty payments but allow authors to publish their audiobooks elsewhere. In these cases, Spotify may pay authors 100% of royalties from Spotify sales and 80% of royalties from other sales.

About the expanding series and authors getting caught up in their own worlds: I think that it’s similar to the MCU. If you have too many books or too many movies in a series it becomes unapproachable for new fans!!! I think the hunger games is an important story for our time and I hope that Suzanne Colins expanding the series does not take away from the message of the original hunger games trilogy

I read all the Anne books growing up and have been a lifelong fan (a self-proclaimed "Anne head" if you will) but the only ones I regularly revisit are books 1-3. I find it makes a wonderful trilogy (minus Davy) but books 4-8 get into Anne as an adult and she is really reduced down to a stereotypical woman from that time. Books 4 and 6 were actually published MUCH later (I believe 1930s instead of 1910/20s like the other 6) as a way to fill in "gaps" in the series which I think added to why they felt so out-of-place.

Gabrielle Zevin has a bit of a nostalgic style to her writing for me. I’ve read both Tomorrow x3 and A.J. Fikry and her style is dated in a way if that makes sense? It reminds me of being a teen and grabbing random adult fiction books to read and just being enthralled. I may not have fully understood the themes due to how young I was but I would feel impacted yet and still. I wish there was a better way to explain what I think but I really enjoyed both books.

The new hunger games book is a tricky one because Suzanne said in an interview that she’ll only write more when she has something to say about the society we live in. Part of me thinks it’s going to be amazing because fans have been asking for a Haymitch book for like 10yrs and she never did it until now. But the fact it’s already got a movie lined up does seem a bit cash grab-y… I also read somewhere that this book is going to focus on the use of propaganda and censorship we’re seeing with current world events. But ultimately we’ll have to wait and see

I heard a lot of times that Suzanne Collins said in an interview years ago she would only write another Hunger Games book if she had something significant/important to say. And given the current state of the workd noone is actually surprised that she wrote another book in that series.
I looooved Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. And I think the hype mostly comes to how much you like/can relate to the characters. Especially since they are so flawed and human. I for example discovered a lot of myself in Sam. Plus, the video games aspect. It's not something you get often in books and I feel this was so beautifully written. When I read Daisy Jones and the Six I constantly had the urge to google songs from it and listen to them because they felt so real. And here I wanted to play these games so much.
But I also liked the third character the most and have the same favourite chapter. That chapter was art.

I loved Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow. The ending not so much.

I have only read the series of Anne of Green in danish and maybe that's the reason. I have never thought about the first book feeling finshed, maybe because I could relate to Anne in some aspects og nature and though process. I have read all the books multiple times and I only find the last one boring. It´s all news to me that people don't like the second book or David. I find it interesting and somewhat hard to understand 🙂
