  • Anthony Pasquale and Mick Gillespie talk about the Cubs' potential All-Stars as MLB All-Star game voting has officially opened. The pair discussed Shōta Imanaga's candidacy as well as if players like Javier Assad, Mark Leiter Jr. or Cody Bellinger have a chance to play at the midsummer classic.
    With the Cubs' catching struggles, a lot of comments have been made about why the Cubs ever parted ways with Willson Contreras. There was a report from David Kaplan that said the Cubs partially parted ways with Contreras because of clubhouse issues.
    They also talked about some reports about potential trade targets Vlad Guerrero Jr. and Pete Alonso, both slugging first basemen. They talked about what the type of package it would take to net one of those stars as well as which prospects Anthony and Mick view as untouchable in the Cubs' system.
    Also, Luis Vazquez is in Tampa Bay with the team, is he coming up?

    No one is untouchable in the right deal. Players that I would expect a massive return for, however, would be Horton, Shaw, PCA and Caissie.

    Are there any other votes amongst the listeners here to see if anyone’s willing to take on Suzuki‘s contract and get us some relief pitching even if it’s a prospect relief pitcher.
    I also don’t see where trading away Bellinger for some prospects and getting rid of his contract is going to hurt us given the outfielders we already have and the prospect of calling Cassie up this year

    I still think (HOPE) the kids are coming. Trading for short term gains could be devastating. That said Vlad at third might work short term. But not hoping for it. Gotta keep the real good kids! Maybe buy a catcher.

    • @michaelboldyga6239
      @michaelboldyga6239 Місяць тому

      And who are the real good kids ? You want to blow your whole season on unproven prospects who haven't even taken a MLB at bat . Every team over hypes their minor leaguers , it keeps the fans hopes up , the Cubs are no different . You can't play all of these kids anyway and the adjustment period isn't quik , most of these prospects won't pan out . How long do you wait to find out ? You can't fill your team with rookies and expect to contend for the post season . Use some of that farm system to bring in proven winners , that's what SMART front office people do , and spend some of that money on that talent like a real BIG MARKET team . Hoyer is not the guy to depend on to build a winner , he was just along for the ride with Theo . Since Theo left Hoyer has managed to screw up almost every personnel move he's made , he's the biggest detriment to the Cubs being a playoff team .

    Honestly, I wouldn’t make any trades right now because teams know what we need too and would be demanding a lot in return. I don’t want to see the Cubs empty out their farm system just for half a season.
    The bullpen will be adding a few arms by the end of this month and next month, too, with guys coming back from injuries.
    As far as the offense goes, I’d like to see the Cubs stick with Morel and Busch for the entire season. The rest (Happ, Bellinger, Suzuki, Swanson) would be hard to move because of their contracts and Hoerner is too much of a catalyst in the lineup to trade away.
    The only exception I would make in a trade would be for a younger catcher but from what I’ve read the Cubs may be sticking with Amaya.
    And, here’s a thought on Kyle Hendricks…If the Cubs did release him, I wonder if they would offer him a job as either a roving instructor or a pitching coach somewhere in their minor league system. I think there would be a few pitchers who could benefit from his knowledge. That, of course, all hinges on whether he’d prefer that rather than trying to land another pitching gig with another team.

    • @ricklasse
      @ricklasse Місяць тому

      Of course, I say that about Morel and then I read in baseball-reference that the Cubs are looking at other options internally for Morel, including Matt Shaw. I did read last week that the Rockies may be interested in dealing 3B Ryan McMahon. If the Cubs are looking for 3B options, I’m sure they’ve inquired about McMahon already. He’s a left-handed hitting third baseman and also he’s played first base (and second base) so it would give the Cubs a lot of infield flexibility.
      If I remember correctly, McMahon has always hit well at Wrigley Field.
      If they were to acquire McMahon, it would give Shaw another year or more to develop in the minors, instead of being rushed up.

    I'm so tired of the Pete Alonso talk. He is not very good. He's basically Patrick Wisdom with consistent ABs. He's nothing special. He hits a lot of hone runs and.... yeah, nothing. That's it. His defense is middling at best and his speed is non-existent. I'd rather do what good teams do and suffer through the Busch growing pains for the rest of the season. See what we have then. Cubs fans used to be the most patient in all of baseball. Now it's like if we don't win every game, it's time to trade for any shiny thing we can.

    Not one of the position players deserves to be an all star including Bellinger. As far as trades, I don’t think a couple of trades will help this team that much. I think there are more holes on this team than any of us really want to admit. If I’m being honest, there are more guys on the major league roster I’d rather see gone than the prospects. I’m more excited about the minor league reports than watching these veteran players right now.

      Man was supposed to be 1 million times better than David Ross. Every Cubs fan had us in the Brewer spot and had the Brewers in last place. When talking about cheap ownership this is exactly what we’re talking about.
