@@jamesvach6698 I'm watching the series from the beginning because I never had the opportunity to watch it as a child, and I have to say that the censorship is very noticeable, people who fall from several meters high to miraculously fall on top of a tree or a trampoline, and It's the same with laughing gas, it doesn't kill or deform, it just makes you laugh, and at most it causes permanent dementia due to long exposure, but it doesn't kill, that's for sure. @@Juanchi3110 If you say so. I must have remembered it different when I saw it as a child since I was certain there were at least a few deaths given how a few characters exclusive to this version were never seen again after a certain point. Well dying and coming back in the body of an experimental test subject suggests Joker might actually be a mad genius of neuroscience to pull off how he did it in this universe tends to leave one a bit more intense.
The Joker was that malevolent in a lot of TAS episodes. Remember Mad Love? Or the episode with Charlie Collins? Or the one where he tried to set off a nuke? Or Wild Cards (technically a Justice League episode, but even so)?
that's because he was in his element back when he was fighting the original batman. he had more obedient minions, and he was up against a nemesis he actually enjoyed fighting, so he didn't need to be as edgy or be as short fused as he was around these young punks who were wearing his makeup and not even pulling the gag right. It's not so much that he was never malevolent, it's just this new time period brought out the worst in him
Imagine how mad Bonk must’ve been when he saw the memory board get destroyed to seriously not consider the consequences of backtalking the fucking Joker.
There was an earlier scene where he abandoned the huge globe-shaped thing they were trying to steal. Even after one of the Dee-Dee twins fell off the flying vehicle, Terry was hanging onto her by a thread, but Bonk still kept going at him. Plenty of young men, and especially teenagers (I should know, I was one) have gotten into trouble on account of an uncontrollable temper.
Considering how he didn't think it was the real Joker, it goes to show how these new thugs using the villain's name don't realize just how insane and homocidal the real Joker was (or is)
Mark Hamill sounds waaay better as Joker here than nowadays. I dunno why, but the lower and much calmer tone of voice he speaks with here makes him sound like that much *more* of a threat (to me at least).
This is The Joker after all. By "giving the town a wedgie" he meant "blasting certain parts of the town with a satelite lazer carving a smiley face that can be seen from up high while also killing a shitton of people"
This was the movie I remember first seeing Mark Hamills joker. And wow the way he lingered in the shadows with his red eyes and powerful voice before revealing that big sinister smile; this scene alone showed me this guy was something unlike anyone else. Especially the fear he put in his crew and later on the entire city as they are reminded of the man they all feared so many years ago and still to this day. Mark Hamill is THE Joker 🐐
Considering the fact that Bonk's corpse was smiling unnaturally this means Joker also laced that shot with his trademark toxin. Which is kinda overkill since the guy would be dead either way but.....hey gotta keep the tradition rolling i guess.
I honestly don't think a shot like that in that area would have killed him, I mean sure in a few hours maybe but not instantly like that. So yeah it was probably the toxin that killed him so quickly, it wasn't even that close to the heart and even if it had been a direct hit to the heart you can actually survive with no heartbeat for about, however long your body can live without oxygen so around three minutes give or take.
@@gif303It is also possible that the little flag killed him first before the Joker Toxin it was laced with did. The fact that Bonk wasn't smiling after he saw the gun go off and there was no laughter from him after he was shot should be proof.
2:32 There's something really pleasing to me about this tiny bit of acting, from the Joker. No giggling, no japes, just him very thoughtfully running down a list of options, and writing off each one in turn. Makes him feel just a little more human.
@@davisdf3064Batman Beyond with a HF Blade… I mean, Curarè had a similar gimmick, but it would be cool to see Terry McGinnis try his hand at futuristic swordplay.

Heath and Joaquin were great as Joker but Mark's various versions of the Joker are #1. He knows the Joker so well. He knows how to voice him. Just like Kevin Conroy with Batman
Only Mark Hamill can hold back when directed to do so and manage to one-up himself by portraying by far the most terrifying, threatening take on his Joker of all time.
The actor has his own style of acting. It can't be expected for someone to act exactly like somebody eles. This is the original Joker. And Jered acted his "own" Joker. It's his way/style. In SQ is Jered's Joker.
@@saysolinka109 Yea, but unlike Jack Nicholson, Heath ledger, and Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto's a douchebag who took his Joker character so seriously that he purposely harassed his co-stars by being a creep while making them refer to him as "Mr. J". Wow and it was already pretty kid-friendly to begin with. The almost Nerf-like with the orange tip? No blood at all? This movie did an excellent job of taking the shows Joker villain group and showing you that they’re no where near as dangerous as the original Joker after building them up throughout the show only to break them down in the movie.
I love how the clone joker just mocks these kids , joker is right ofc because these are just kids playing a dangerous game that they aren’t prepared for , we also most keep in mind that if not all but most of Bruce old enemies are either missing, or in Arkham . I do like that when clone joker says that is also how they did it in my day , I think that he was referring to robin shooting the original joker , this joker seems to have all the memories of the original joker 🃏 and knowing joker , I’m not surprised if he would mock the original joker’s death .
I think what would have been a good foreshadowing of the Joker controlling Tim Drake body was if he said, "...put a smile in this heart" instead of "...put a smile in my heart"
logically speaking, if DD is the grandkids to Harley, and Tim (Renamed Joker Jr.) is the illegally adopted son of Joker and Harley, then he would be DD's Uncle J... What a messed up family...
I love how much this movie highlights the difference between the Joker and the Joker gang. They really are a gang, mostly posturing. But the Joker is a monster a purely human monster, one who made gods and demons second guess messing with him. They are criminals but he is the Joker
Funny story behind that... the voice actor who played him had done a Christopher Walken impression before during a recording session for another production, and they thought it was so good they asked him to do it for Ghoul.
Trademark Joker, whacked Bonk without second thought, displaying that disturbing, menacing grin. A much more dangerous and ruthless psychopath in Batman Beyond. Bonk made the big mistake to offend Joker like that, with his bad mouthing and he casually snuffed out Bonk like a candle, as if nothing happened. The rest of the gang were too scared to refuse to pledge loyalty, fearful that Joker would also end them if they did, after seeing for themselves just how dangerous and sinister Joker is. Joker won't think twice if he wanted to kill or torture someone and with that sinister smile he displays.

"Ah brave new world...that has such putzes in it." Quite the great quote from the Joker, a combination of a reference to a classic Shakespeare line mixed with 1930s/1940s gangster slang. Real criminals? In real life? They’d probably be just as horrified if they saw a friend gunned down up close. lol
Compared to what he did to Tim in this movie, Bonk got off light.
Wow, I'm surprised they were able to allow the Joker to confirm a person died. In the original animated series, they had to make sure Joker never killed anyone.
Because Return of the Joker was a theatrical film. It had far less restrictions on it because of that.
This wasn't for the tv series, this was a movie so there hands were less tied with the story, also this was the director's cut (he gases him in the other version after the bang)
I recall people being exposed to Joker Toxin in the original series. I could be remembering wrong of course.
(Sorry for the bad english, i'm using Google Translate 😅)
I have to say, it shows that before it was very restricted, one has to get that idea when watching series or movies that already have their yesterdays, but that doesn't stop them from being classics.
@@Juanchi3110 If you say so. I must have remembered it different when I saw it as a child since I was certain there were at least a few deaths given how a few characters exclusive to this version were never seen again after a certain point. At any rate there certainly seem to be a lot of very close calls from what I can remember, people who would have died if not for being treated. Perhaps it is just my memories being mistaken. Don't worry about your English, I couldn't tell you were using a translating tool and I understand your points. I have seen much worse comments that are harder to understand although to be fair that is more a matter of sentence structure than the language itself.
“Ah brave new world that has such putzes in it.” Nice pun.
Joker may be a lunatic, but he’s a well-read lunatic.
"Oh, right. Dead."
Don't know why, but I find that frickin' hilarious.
The red eyes almost make it seem like there's something literally not human to him. That would explain a lot.
Yes i'm glad someone pointed it out
Joker is an energy across generations
Joker isn't a human, he's a caricature posing as a human.
As a kid I remember being surprised as how more malevolent this joker seemed to be compared to the one shown in TAS
It's not so much that he was never malevolent, it's just this new time period brought out the worst in him
I love how joker is played off in this clip... He's not a man....hes like a demon, a spirit of hell made flesh.
If you watch the whole episode that is actually a pretty accurate description metaphorically speaking
@@ljevans3156 It’s a movie, mate, not just an episode.
Bruce Timm based Joker’s haircut here on Hannibal Lecter in commentary.
He's a clown in a purple jumpsuit. Not much more to it than that. Just a loser who thinks he's got a message to send, but in reality, just a lunatic.
Probably since he was killed in the past and yet we see him still standing
I've always liked Joker's design in this movie, he's like a human version of Frieza
New Gotham, New rules
Sees Bonk killed "And nothing of value was lost."
Considering how he didn't think it was the real Joker, it goes to show how these new thugs using the villain's name don't realize just how insane and homocidal the real Joker was (or is)
you know kids a lot has change while your old uncle joker's been away. New Gotham, new rules
even a new bat man.
But now I'm tanned, I'm rested and I'm ready to give this old town a wedgie again!
I need to know that your with me, let me here you say it just once.
kleetus iscarnage little louder
kleetus iscarnage Dee Dee?
Don't know why the scarecrow guy turns into Christopher Walken when he gets on the computer but it still makes me laugh every time.
me too lmao i was like "wait..."
As Harley once said. "Ya take what he gives and hope it is not a bullet" bonk should have known
Mark Hamill sounds waaay better as Joker here than nowadays. I dunno why, but the lower and much calmer tone of voice he speaks with here makes him sound like that much *more* of a threat (to me at least).
you know that people do something called aging
Mark Hamill ain’t exactly the spring chicken he used to be. He’s even admitted that doing the Joker impression physically hurts him due to age.
It’s the script he follows when playing the part. Mark could still do a calm, intimidating Joker voice if he wanted to.
@@sonicalltheway8179 Is he still called upon sometimes, though?
@@teleportedbreadfor3days I believe his last appearance was justice league action
the red dots for eyes are a perfect touch.
he's the most...normal(?) looking person in the room, but he seems the most inhuman.
*The Joker:* shoots a man point-blank.
*Also the Joker:* "I'm going to give this town a wedgie!"
This is The Joker after all. By "giving the town a wedgie" he meant "blasting certain parts of the town with a satelite lazer carving a smiley face that can be seen from up high while also killing a shitton of people"
@@BadassHater1 Exactly. He's like a kid with incredibly destructive toys that thinks of mass murder like tea time.
Oh......my.....GGGGGGOOOOOODDDDDDDD I FUCKING LOVE THIS JOKER!
what did u expect. this Mark Hamill. This guy *IS* the Joker
He's playing a future Joker, not the regular Joker.
AfroToriFanMan He's a displaced-in-time Joker, but for the most part he is the "regular Joker" in all the ways that count.
ztslovebird In robins body.
AfroToriFanMan
But created by and based on the original Joker.
I love how this Joker's voice is subtly different than the original Joker; it hints the true nature of his character 👀
To be frank, compare Mark Hamill's voice here to his BTAS take, he's improved a lot.
@@justinesun631his voice was always perfect imo he just got older
The fact that Joker kills Bonk in the exact way Tim Drake killed the Joker is… just… so Joker-ish
The fact that the joker plays off the real jokers death like it’s nonchalant is so joker .
Considering the fact that Bonk's corpse was smiling unnaturally this means Joker also laced that shot with his trademark toxin.
Which is kinda overkill since the guy would be dead either way but.....hey gotta keep the tradition rolling i guess.
Seems very insightful for Rogal Dorn.
@@MrReich1918 I AM ADORABLE!
Joker always liked sending his victims out with a smile
It's his trademark.
Christopher Walken Scarecrow is super underrated
And I had no idea that it was Flash/Lex Luthor
There's two ways that bonk died one he was stabbed by a little flag and two he was infected with jokers laughing gas
Apollodragon 2000 Why not both?
Either way he both dies smiling
@@gif303It is also possible that the little flag killed him first before the Joker Toxin it was laced with did. The fact that Bonk wasn't smiling after he saw the gun go off and there was no laughter from him after he was shot should be proof.
2:32 There's something really pleasing to me about this tiny bit of acting, from the Joker. No giggling, no japes, just him very thoughtfully running down a list of options, and writing off each one in turn. Makes him feel just a little more human.
Joker, You have never played peace walker have you? Memory boards can go to making bipedal walking weapons.
A nice metal gear reference
The memes
Well, that is until Batman becomes the most powerful human being in the world through the use of cibernetics and splits your mech wide open
@@davisdf3064Batman Beyond with a HF Blade… I mean, Curarè had a similar gimmick, but it would be cool to see Terry McGinnis try his hand at futuristic swordplay.
Dee Dee being asked to take out the garbage is an amazing little nod to me. BTAS Joker from what I remember used Harley more than henchmen. So him asking Harley's Granddaughters to do the grunt work just tickles my fancy.
DAMN. That was dark.
It's Gotham, what do you expect?
toxic tabby cartoon network baby!
Bragi the Skaldic King Was it? Well that's good... It explains some stuff
But look how happy Bonk was! XD

Mark Hamill is truly the voice of the Joker. He really knows how to express the Joker’s twisted sense of humor.
“Whoops! No I wasn’t!”
That’s when I knew it was the Joker for sure, and not only because he stepped into the light.
Imagine they saw Jared Leto's joker picture on the computer, Joker would scream horror and in disgust...
The actor has his own style of acting. It can't be expected for someone to act exactly like somebody eles. This is the original Joker. And Jered acted his "own" Joker. It's his way/style. In SQ is Jered's Joker.
@@saysolinka109 And he sucked
@@saysolinka109 Yea, but unlike Jack Nicholson, Heath ledger, and Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto's a douchebag who took his Joker character so seriously that he purposely harassed his co-stars by being a creep while making them refer to him as "Mr. J". Not to mention his joker performance was so terrible that they literally had to cut most of his scenes from the movie.
But his hairstyle is similar here, so I don't think he would have shouted
I like this version a lot more than the censored version. This one is perfect for a joker gag, both funny and horrifying at the same time.
What was the censored version?
@@zendzend5107 The gun was filled with Joker venom, which explains the smile on Bonk's face. Well, that and lazy animation.
Wow and it was already pretty kid-friendly to begin with.
The almost Nerf-like with the orange tip? No blood at all? They think children can't handle that and wonder why they grow up into whiny adults. My parents showed my LOTR when I was 8 and Terminator 2 when I was 10, kids can handle a little gore.
I love the shadow joker design with the red eyes. It really speaks about this version more than others.
at first, I thought that was the TNBA Joker. But nope, it's a mix of BTAS Joker and TNBA Joker or the Justice League Joker
1:02 those newbies should appreciate the classic jokes, with the killer twist.
Wow....I love this version of Joker

I think what would have been a good foreshadowing of the Joker controlling Tim Drake body was if he said, "...put a smile in this heart" instead of "...put a smile in my heart"
logically speaking, if DD is the grandkids to Harley, and Tim (Renamed Joker Jr.) is the illegally adopted son of Joker and Harley, then he would be DD's Uncle J... What a messed up family...
0:53
That smile, Just that cursed smile, and the kids sit down back to the floor XD
I love how much this movie highlights the difference between the Joker and the Joker gang. They really are a gang, mostly posturing. But the Joker is a monster a purely human monster, one who made gods and demons second guess messing with him. They are criminals but he is the Joker
Mark Hamill is the best Joker - live action or animation. He just captures the sinister nature so well.
Why does Ghoul sound like Christopher Walken?
Funny story behind that... the voice actor who played him had done a Christopher Walken impression before during a recording session for another production, and they thought it was so good they asked him to do it for Ghoul.
lol at joker's face at 2:01
Right dead
This series is so dark. It's bloody awesome!

Quite the great quote from the Joker, a combination of a reference to a classic Shakespeare line mixed with 1930s/1940s gangster slang. The character always rode that line between high class and psychotic low-brow mobster, fitting for his schizophrenic nature as a clown criminal.
Is The Joker even aware that these two girls are Harleys granddaughters?
