I fucking love this Joker. John DiMaggio has a voice that's both unique and perfectly fits the character. I also love how he acts. He's like the perfect mix of Ledger's actual calculating psychopath and the theaterical larger then life psycho clown Hamill created.
Very matter-of-fact humor when he tells a joke than the goody, murderous humor we usually see. Still crazy, but an interesting and entertaining take for this Joker.
I also love how watchmojo described his portrayal, which is very accurate: "DiMaggio portrays the Joker as a more calculating villain, replacing clinical insanity with genuine malice and cruelty, with his deeper, more mocking voice, DiMaggio nails it at portraying one of the darkest incarnations of the sadistic jester."
John DiMaggio makes the Joker sound serious and intimidating, Troy Baker makes the Joker sound young and crazy, Mark Hamill makes the Joker sound intelligent and experienced.

That is just my opinion of course.
Juliano Augusto I personally LOVED DiMaggio's Joker almost as much as Hamill. Close second for sure but God damn did it set a high bar. He's got the laugh down. I'm sure the director was going for something different, but I think if he wanted to sound like Mark Hamill he could get pretty darn close.
He added something of his own to this Joker. Hammil is certainly best, BUT, J DM brought more darkness to Joker. Was it director's choice, or his own, no matter. Cause this darker Joker is awesome! It is smth that Hammil's Joker misses a bit, though his is currently closes to what Joker should be like. :)
@@lukecurran3691 Oh definitely. Although I think DiMaggio has come the closest to Hamill when it comes to voice overs. Its close to how Mark portrays him, but with just a little bit of his own spin on it.
"Nah..I'm just going to keep beating you with this crowbar" This..is how the Joker should be portrayed at all times..Not as some anorexic Juggalo with platinum teeth..ugh..what a nightmare that was...
I figure he most likely asked a vending machine for it politely, and when it dispensed only one bag of chips, he proceeded to shatter it and scatter all the chips out through the streets of Gotham. Little did the poor citizens know that every chip was individually laced with a tinge of the active ingredients in The Joker's gas, causing an eruption of laughter and death within the immediate area before it was cordoned off. Joker walked away with a bag of chips in hand, smiling.
The absolute defiance in spitting his blood on the joker and smiling despite the beating is what made me love Jason Todd as a character. The characters that will spit in the face of imminent defeat and/or death will forever have a place in my heart. Especially the black sheep characters.
The point is that Heath Ledger's Joker was so incredibly inspiring that he basically changed the formula of Joker's personality. He is now less clownish, deeper voice, his insanity is much darker, he is more violent and he doesn't use acid flowers and lethal palm-buzzers as much.
BPAdemo What's the point of having a clown as your bad guy, when he doesn't use demented gags to kill people. That's the POINT of the Joker. He kills people in zany psychotic ways. Like using one of those bang guns that fires twice. Once to show the hang flag, and the next to embed that bang flag in some guy's chest. That's the problem with the Nolan films. They capture the Darkness of Batman but the soul is missing. Also, the comic Joker is still wonderfully zany, so no, Heath didn't change the formula for Joker.

Unironically, this is my favorite interpretation of Joker. John did SUCH an ASTOUNDING version of Joker, so much so, this is still the only one I feel like isn't just overdone and everything about his portrayal. I need more of this version of Joker and John voicing him.
I really love that he doesn't try to emulate Hamill. He really takes it and makes it his own. There's always that kind of natural flow to the character but it's very different from Hamill and distinct in it's own way while still being VERY VERY good and I really would love to see him do more of it.
Mark Hamill will always be my favorite Joker, but John DiMaggio definitely made the character seem more powerful. His deep voice paired with this awesome design makes for a very entertaining character.
Gotta admit, he is pretty good... Brings a more aged feeling to the Joker. Mark Hamill has the "Joker in his prime" feeling to his voice. John Dimaggo can easily be the successor to an elder Joker.
"You really think I'd stir up this much trouble, and make sure you didn't know it was me?" I love that line, it just sounds so "Joker" to me. I think DiMaggio made a good Joker, and this is one of the better animated Batman movies IMO.
Why are the voice actors getting so much undeserved credit? I'm guessing someone else wrote the lines, the story and so on.. this is not just their take on the joker, this is the take of many.
@@philandros3195 it's not undeserved. It's the same as when people praise actors for portraying their characters amazingly. Like Ryan Renalds as Deadpool. Yeah it's his face and voice, but when I watch the film I don't see Ryan Renalds I see Deadpool. Similarly, when I hear John DiMaggio coming out of the Joker, I don't hear Jake the Dog, or Bender, I hear The Joker.
The chips scene is why I love this version of the joker, he's so relaxed, he knows he's in control of the situation and does whatever the hell he wants without being overly flashy and loud. Damn fine interpretation John, damn fine
"Gotta give the boy points." I'm sorry, but just from that line all I can think about is a cocky Marcus Fenix or an evil Jake the Dog. kudos to you John DiMaggio, you magnificent voice actor.
I actually love this version of the Joker. He's more sinister and scary. Also John DiMaggio has some awesome line deliveries. His insane laugh is amazing.
It implies that the Joker after all these times knows who Bruce Wayne is, but just doesn't say nothing to keep the cat and mouse chase going, in return Bruce (unless in a different dimension) never kills the Joker because if he did he would be no better off than him.
Its been so long since theyve been at it that a lot of us thinks that Joker knows who batman is. But he doesnt give a shit about that. He doesnt care about Bruce Wayne.. Just the Batman..
6:00 Oh those lines. God those lines. "Whose got a camera? Ooh, ooh, get one of me and the kid first, then you and me, then the three of us, and then one with the crowbar, then...." xD
DiMaggio's Joker is epic in my opinion, the deep voice really brings out the psycho in him. It's like the more experienced, battle hardened version of Joker. Troy Baker and DiMaggio are second place to Hamill's Joker (it is legendary, after all), and 2004's "The Batman" animated series' Joker Kevin Richardson is third. All others are pretty much unknown to me.
***** Spitting out the water to temporarily blind the guy or crumpling it up and quickly cramming it down the guy's throat, there's more than one way to kill/maim a guy with a paper cup full of water.
I wonder if Joker killing Bartholomew Wolper with the coffee cup in the Dark Knight Returns movie was a reference to that scene. He certainly didn't do it that way in the comic version.
The best part is the contrast with how childish his personality is here. He acts like his parents took away one of his toy cars. (But he still shows he's the boss, and making a villain both childish and menacing seems difficult without making them insane.)
GreatAwesomeReviewers my faves will always be the one where he was making fun of batman in the interrogation scene and where also talks about getting photos of them. And i love how batman is all serious and the joker is just laughing and making jokes. LOL
Awesome. Just awesome. What a perfect modernized cartoon joker. Gritty, threatening, off-putting, and funny. Just an astounding performance by John dimaggio
5:08 "I'm going to need a SWAT team ready to mobilise, street-level maps covering all of Florida, a pot of coffee, twelve Jammie Dodgers, and a fez." Oh, wait, wrong universe.
"You really think I would start up so much trouble, and not make sure you knew it was me?" That's actually a very solid point, and a point that was proven everytime whenever Joker just breathes aggressively in any general direction, even outside this movie.
This Joker just terrifies me, and that's a good thing. With John DiMaggio, one minute he's making jokes and making you laugh, the next, sending shivers down to your very core in fear. That takes a lot to do, and he does it *well*. 4:32 *Black Mask:* "I need you to murder the Red Hood. You think you can handle that?" *Joker:* /easily murders Black Mask's five bodyguards with one cup and four bullets in five seconds flat/ This is why we can't have nice things...or cups that aren't made of plastic.
I'm sick of people saying that John DiMaggio's Joker is crap. It perfectly fits with this Joker, and I think it should be deeper. He is bulkier and more sadistic, and that low, yet psychotic voice works perfectly. I consider him the third best Joker voice behind Mark Hamill and Troy Baker.
Coming off Mark hamil's joker I was skeptical, but I won't lie when I first saw this movie I got used too and started loving this joker voice. Not sure I'd want every joker like this, but it's perfect for a cold, dark story like Under the Red Hood. Really sells how fked the entire situation was for Jason
John brought a more dryer humor to the Joker, which made him sound more intelligent, calculating. The tone makes ya have to take him seriously, but when ya actually listen to what he says, ya just can't. A very interesting twist on the role. But most importantly, he had the laugh down! Anyone with a laugh that chilling deserves the role.
2:24 I love the look Robin gave Batman. Robin be like, "What the fuck?, and Batman didn't response to his stare, Bruce be like " Nigga, still not used to him."
I love how delighted at the irony of the situation he was in when Jason kicked that door down and all the pieces came together. He didn't care if he was about to die, because for the Joker, the only thing that matters is "the bit". Even at the expense of his self-preservation.
In addition, John DiMaggio makes the Joker sound cold, calculating and very intelligent. He only breaks into a fit of madness near the end of Red Hood. Really great perspective.

@ibrahimihsan2090 go back to your safe space.
@@ibrahimihsan2090 It’s the humor that is funny to him, not the context
And then one with the crowbar!
Haha that made me crack up! 😅😅😅
Makes me laugh harder than it should every time!
It made Jason Todd crack up too lol
+Boomsha365 literally
that cracks me up
Made me crack up more then Jason's bones.
When I was a kid my mom rented this movie for me thinking it was a kid's movie 😂😂😂😂😂😂
You'd still get to watch it anyways if you had a habit of googling about these characters. I remember watching this whole at the age of 11 it 12.

I now realize when Joker said "please tell the Big Man I said Hello", that he meant God and not Batman. He knew Batman wouldn't make it in time.
mark hamil ruined it for everyone who is not him voicing the joker
@@lukecurran3691 Oh definitely. Although I think DiMaggio has come the closest to Hamill when it comes to voice overs. Its close to how Mark portrays him, but with just a little bit of his own spin on it.
"Nah..I'm just going to keep beating you with this crowbar" This..is how the Joker should be portrayed at all times..Not as some anorexic Juggalo with platinum teeth..ugh..what a nightmare that was...
who gave Joker a bag of chips and why? Or did he just go to a vending machine and bought it himself
he probably escaped and killed someone who had them, olny to eat them.
The ZombieMan Black Mask most likely treated it to him in hopes of coercing him to do the job
That would be awesome.
@@ncrvako After all, a clown's gotta eat.
The absolute defiance in spitting his blood on the joker and smiling despite the beating is what made me love Jason Todd as a character. The characters that will spit in the face of imminent defeat and/or death will forever have a place in my heart. Especially the black sheep characters.
John Dimaggio is brilliant as the Joker, his portrayal of the Joker is like Heath Ledger and Mark Hamill's Joker fused into one! What's not to love?
Definitely more of a psychotic take on the joker than mark hamill...both are incredible in their own ways
The point is that Heath Ledger's Joker was so incredibly inspiring that he basically changed the formula of Joker's personality. He is now less clownish, deeper voice, his insanity is much darker, he is more violent and he doesn't use acid flowers and lethal palm-buzzers as much.
Maya Leia which fits much better with our jaded 21st century US than the mid 20th century USA joker.
BPAdemo It certainly does. I mean, a character can't stay the same forever.

John DiMaggio is definitely the joker that sounds most like a crime boss and in my opinion makes him perfect for the grittier batman stories
how to ruin ur childhood:
close ur eyes and imagine jake the dog... you're welcome
Nah, I imagined Bender saying this stuff and it ruined my childhood.
+DragonGodMillionare This would be something Bender would do though.
Chase D Yeah he probably would lol.
Actually this film is more of a childhood thing than those. And by childhood I mean a year ago since I didn't watch much of anything for 15 years.....
Party pooper, no cake for you.
3:44 yah know he has a point. in most cases where the joker was the culprit. He made it pretty obvious.
"I need some guys. Not these guys, they're kinda dead. *Insane laughter*"
Best part of the movie.
Gotta admit, he is pretty good... Brings a more aged feeling to the Joker. Mark Hamill has the "Joker in his prime" feeling to his voice. John Dimaggo can easily be the successor to an elder Joker.
And Troy Baker is the younger Joker.
"You really think I'd stir up this much trouble, and make sure you didn't know it was me?" I love that line, it just sounds so "Joker" to me. I think DiMaggio made a good Joker, and this is one of the better animated Batman movies IMO.
It was all right, but Mask of the Phantasm was the best.
That was good one to. :)
I could imagine DiMaggio's joker as an older Arthur Fleck...
5:26 - I love Hamill's Joker, but I gotta say, this is probably the most unsettling Joker laugh I've ever heard.
1:50 that hello was chilling asf. sends chills down my spine.
3:26 nightwing was worried asf.
I want as a voice mail.
The chips scene is why I love this version of the joker, he's so relaxed, he knows he's in control of the situation and does whatever the hell he wants without being overly flashy and loud. Damn fine interpretation John, damn fine
DiMaggio's Joker is pretty unique. Very cold and rough, but what tied it together is that great laugh he delivered. Lots of talent on display here. 🙏🏼
5:00 "ha-ha-ha-_cough_ Gee, I guess I should have drunk that water first."
"...and then one with the crowbar!" XD Best line in the movie.
The laugh itself is decent, but I can't help but hear Jake the dog from Adventure Time when he speaks xD!
I keep thinking Bender lol
TheOffenda
Yeah xD!
Shaun N Ince is it that bad that I just realized that it’s the same voice actor, and now I can’t in hear it
I just hear Marcus Fenix gone crazy.
I keep hearing Drakken from Kim Possible
Most underrated Joker voice ever.
Dimaggio absolutely killed it.
I always crack up at the part when Jason breaks down the door revealing joker, and then joker puts out a short burst of laughter.
"Party pooper, no cake for you"
Loved that part, every party needs a pooper and that's why we invited you
"And one with the crowbar". LMAO😂😂.
He sounds like a mix of Hamill and Ledger. Absolutely incredible
Yea, he sounds amazing. A little bit like some gangster from prohibition times or straight up from sopranos
"And then one with the crowbar!". I spit out some of my water lmaoo
"Gotta give the boy points."
I'm sorry, but just from that line all I can think about is a cocky Marcus Fenix or an evil Jake the Dog. kudos to you John DiMaggio, you magnificent voice actor.
5:49 This part. Very well executed and well done. I really do like John DiMaggio as the joker, quite an interesting take on his voice.
I actually love this version of the Joker. He's more sinister and scary. Also John DiMaggio has some awesome line deliveries. His insane laugh is amazing.
"Bite my shiny, metal ass, Batman!"
"Bite my pasty, clown ass, Batman" would sound better, since that's bender's catch phrase, or "Beat my pasty, psychotic ass, Batman"
This is the best thing I've ever heard.
Oh my god! DiMaggio is terrifying as the joker! He's perfect for the role!
I keep imagining this is what Jake sounds like when he gets pissed off.
I always come back to this. Such an underrated performance
He called him Bruce in front of Joker.
Joker doesn't give a shit.
Joker doesn’t care.
The most underrated joker by far, John DiMaggio always brings the good stuff.
John Midaggio did a excellent performance for voicing the Joker. 😃😃😃😃
The laugh starting at 3:50 is one of my favourite joker laughs
6:00 Oh those lines. God those lines. "Whose got a camera? Ooh, ooh, get one of me and the kid first, then you and me, then the three of us, and then one with the crowbar, then...." xD
The bit where he makes jokes about taking pictures with each other and then the crowbar genuinely makes me laugh.
This is a fantastic substitute for Mark Hamill
Can't beat Mark Hamill
But Mark won't be around forever.
Troy Baker is a good substitute for Hamill. DiMaggio is an amazing replacement for Ledger.
Petition for an R-Rated Joker animated film adapted off of Brian Azzerello’s joker novel with John DiMaggio as the voice of The Joker:
Yessssss
As much as I love Dimaggio, it's a bit deep for joker, but holy crap he nailed the laugh.
*****
I've finished Injustice Gods Among Us and I didn't really like the Joker in it.
Nah I think his deepness works perfectly for the Joker, especially at this age.
you just handed the joker a GLASS of water...he's gonna...yeah, yeah...what did you guys expect would happen?
Next time, use paper cups.
*****
Spitting out the water to temporarily blind the guy or crumpling it up and quickly cramming it down the guy's throat, there's more than one way to kill/maim a guy with a paper cup full of water.
I wonder if Joker killing Bartholomew Wolper with the coffee cup in the Dark Knight Returns movie was a reference to that scene. He certainly didn't do it that way in the comic version.
When he said "Please tell the big man I said "hello"" did he mean God or Batman?
batman
Tom Bontempo there's a difference?
No amount of thumb ups can do your comment justice but I'll keep trying.
He meant God
Batman is Batman, Judge Dredd is god
for fuck sake. that "I'll need some guys.
...
well not these ones, they're a little dead." line cracked me up more than it should've.
I LOVE the design of Black Mask in this.. Fucking menacing!
The best part is the contrast with how childish his personality is here. He acts like his parents took away one of his toy cars. (But he still shows he's the boss, and making a villain both childish and menacing seems difficult without making them insane.)
Joker: Bite my shiny metal crowbar!
"Party Pooper; no cake for you."
That line made me lose my shit.
Nothing like getting beaten by Joker but only hearing Jake from Adventure Time and Bender from Futurama. You can only laugh at this
Also fu dog from jake the dragon
@@isaacandino3956 didn't know that one
Luke Skywalker will always be the one true Joker to me. But Bender gave a great performance.
5:08
"I'm going to need a SWAT team ready to mobilise, street-level maps covering all of Florida, a pot of coffee, twelve Jammie Dodgers, and a fez."
Oh, wait, wrong universe.
"You really think I would start up so much trouble, and not make sure you knew it was me?"
That's actually a very solid point, and a point that was proven everytime whenever Joker just breathes aggressively in any general direction, even outside this movie.
You think you can handle that?"
*Joker:* /easily murders Black Mask's five bodyguards with one cup and four bullets in five seconds flat/
This is why we can't have nice things...or cups that aren't made of plastic.
1:17 nah, I’m just gonna keep beating you with this crowbar
I'm sick of people saying that John DiMaggio's Joker is crap. It perfectly fits with this Joker, and I think it should be deeper. He is bulkier and more sadistic, and that low, yet psychotic voice works perfectly. I consider him the third best Joker voice behind Mark Hamill and Troy Baker.
No one said this Joker was bad. The young justice one is..mr.2edgy4me
Coming off Mark hamil's joker I was skeptical, but I won't lie when I first saw this movie I got used too and started loving this joker voice. Not sure I'd want every joker like this, but it's perfect for a cold, dark story like Under the Red Hood. Really sells how fked the entire situation was for Jason
My favorite animated Joker, I loved John Dimaggio in this movie.
Definitely my favorite joker design, and a great voice too!
I would say this is more of a mature type of Joker and even more demented than comical.
Is it weird that whenever I hear John voicing the the Joker, all I can think about, is
Dr Drakken from Kim Possible?
OH MY GOD IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME
+Dakota Nelson Same voice actor.
Yeah I know it's John DiMaggio.
what have you done...
Favourite line: 6:09 "and then one with the crowbar and then! (SMACK) LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL XD
I love how delighted at the irony of the situation he was in when Jason kicked that door down and all the pieces came together. He didn't care if he was about to die, because for the Joker, the only thing that matters is "the bit". Even at the expense of his self-preservation.
