OH MY GOD! This helped me understand SO WELL! I can’t believe I’m taking advanced algebra and I couldn’t understand the difference between these two properties until I saw this video. Thank you!
So you are saying that when an entire side of the equation matches I could use either, but also that you can only use transitive property when an entire side matches? Doesn't that mean that the transitive property is completely useless?

Thank you I have a test today and I still didn’t know the difference 😂
Thank you, I had this question arise for geometry and I couldn't figure it out. Thanks again, now I can teach it correctly.
the. entire. side. That was all I needed to hear. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I have a geometry quiz today, and I wasn't understanding, but this helped so much!
Why is this not substitution? It was not explained:
given: j+k=r+s, t=r+s
Therefore j+k=t
Why can’t I say I’m substituting t for for r+s???
Thank u so much this was very helpful really appreciate ur time and effort
This is soooo helpful, thanks a lot.
This is awesome, it really helps.
which property do you use if it’s

Since there is no substitution property of congruence.....It makes transitive property relevant? Or am I missing something
I agree
Thank you so much for this comment and thread, this was my thoughts exactly.
Yes, if I understand correctly, the Transitive Property is a subset of Substitution, and completely unnecessary.
It's the math giraffe from NASA
Thank you so much, this was so helpful😄
Hi Helen, sorry I missed your comment before! Thank you! :) I am so glad to hear it was helpful for you. I appreciate it! Have a great weekend,
Brigid
