I have that same laminator and it’s worked super well for almost 2 years. When it gets stuck like that pull the release button and you can pull out that piece. Make sure you are putting it with the closed end first and within the lines. If it continues I would email scotch, they might send you a new one.

I would discourage you from throwing something away, maybe wait a year and see if it's useful to you after you've taught the curriculum unless the room didn't belong to a fomer kindergarten teacher it seems rash. I would also caution against using number for students in K-1 I think students would be better off using names vs for numbers

Don't throw away curriculum! You never know how much you'll need later on.
