They tried to do the same thing to Nate Diaz, having him fight with Khamzat Chimaev, it's like they just wanted to bury him. I am so glad he got Tony instead. It was more like a legends match.

Knowing now that Khamzat cant maintain that first round pace thru the entire fight, and that his submission technique specifically needs sharpening, if Nate could weather round 1, he would probably have subbed khamzat late.

@@rileyhayden8929guess what else Dana wouldn't say? I'm a business owner and I own the ufc. Know why? Because Dana is just an employee. The firtitta brothers bought the ufc and appointed Dana as president and gave him some shares. When they sold the ufc to endeavor, endeavor chose to keep Dana white as the president, Dana is an employee and can lose his job at any time if the endeavor shareholders decide so. So Dana makes decisions that grow the brand and he makes decisions that bring profits to the shareholders at endeavor, to keep them happy so he can keep his job. People need to learn something before they blame Dana for everything ufc related from fighter pay to who gets the next title shot ect. because he's just the fall guy that takes the blame for everything whilst silently keeping the guys at endeavor happy and rich.

I think it comes back to Dana being a fan of Vince McMahon. He’s said it many times and you can look at similarities in presentation and things in the earlier days of the sport especially. In wrestling they tend to “bury” anyone who is on their way out of a company to make a new or upcoming star rise up higher. They obviously can’t make someone lose in the UFC but they can obviously set up matches like these. They don’t always go the way the ufc wants which is just one of the many reasons this sport is so amazing.

Khamzat Chimaev vs Nate Diaz is the perfect example of this. Nate was on his way out, Khamzat was (and kind of still is) on the come-up. The UFC wanted to damage Nate's value as much as possible outside of the UFC with an utter mismatch of a fight. Fortunately Khamzat missed weight and Nate ended up fighting a washed Tony instead (I predicted Nate to win because of that and he did). Nate thankfully dodged a bullet, but only because the UFC's new golden boy was unprofessional and not because the fight was essentially an execution to the point where the SAC should have intervened.

I feel like the Penn/Yair matchup was the UFC warning BJ. Kinda like a “Oh, you won’t just retire on your own? Here, we’ll help you with that.” BJ seriously thought he could go down to 145 and beat an up and coming prospect. I think that played out exactly how Dana wanted. Granted, Penn still fought 3 times in the UFC after the Yair fight. But those losses weren’t as brutal.

First off it is "arguable", especially considering that the judges got it right 1-3-5. Secondly, who on earth that rationally follows the sport could possibly say that GSP, in his last ever fight at welterweight, in fight 27 of 28, with numerous injuries including knee reconconstruction, was "in his prime"?!?!? A fight which immediately afterward he announces that he needs to take a break from the sport to recover mentally and physically?!?!? That statement was beyond stupid.

It sucks when you mention fighters being their own worst enemies and not knowing when to walk away. There are a few currently on the roster who are overdue. I don't have recency bias, but I believe at least 2 knockouts in a row is serious consideration for a change in style or possible retirement. Fighters can come back from a submission or various other injuries, but a knockout just seems like it takes a bit of their soul as well. Arguably, no fighter is 100% after their first knockout loss, and several later, I'd argue they are 50% or worse. There are exceptions, including many from prior MMA On Point videos, but still, there are fighters who have gotten so bad after a few knockouts that it's not worth the PPV money to watch them continue to get slaughtered unless you are just purely sadistic.

Except every one of these fights had a point and you even provided the reasons for most of them. Most of the others were all about passing the glow of an ageing legend to a young upcoming star.
Bisping is unique in that he suffered the detached retina and that really slowed down his fight schedule. When he beat Anderson Silva then got the call for the short notice fight for Rockhold 2, he knew he didn't have a lot of time to make was he could from the sport. So he took what he thought were the easiest fights for his "title reign" by fighting an old Hendo and a retired GSP coming up a weight class instead of fighting any real MW contenders like Souza, Whittaker, Romero or Mousasi. Once he dropped the belt, he knew there was no way back through the contenders or a trilogy with Rockhold. So he took the short notice Gastelum fight to get a last quick decent payday before riding off into the sunset.

Because tai is a star and a win over pav would have been huge. And they are both younger, up and coming fighters who need to fight in the road to the title. Your question doesn't make much sense.

"why isnt molly fighting strikers on ever London card"
This is exactly what's wrong with the sport and it's rankings.
I don't understand why they keep the facade up, just ditch the rankings and go by Instagram followers or some shit which is pretty much what they are already doing. Giving people opportunities based in shit talking and popularity rather than skill, and Dana wonders why hardcores rarely pay for ppv's.

Yea it's really pretty bad, you don't see too many men with records like 7-4 or 12-10, and it's pretty common in the women's divisions. There's a handful of women that are legitimately really good, but 90% on the UFC roster are just place holders.

9/10 of these are old legends being fed to young contenders, who could and should have had a Robbie Lawler type retirement fight, but thats how the UFC like to operate. Ex champs with big money contracts who want to stick around too long get put down, brutal strategy but clearly on purpose.
The Molly McCann fight however makes no sense at all, they straight up killed a star for no return.
