The FX30 is a VIDEO CAMERA. Where it lacks comparatively to it's big brother the FX3, it emphasizes traditional film-making essentials. I picked one up last week, love it. If i could afford/justify an FX3 I would in a heartbeat, but the 30 is solid step in the right direction. Your video was no bs, thanks for keeping it real man. Now I'm gonna return my sigma zoom for a faster prime like that 35. Appreciate your work, thank you! "...if you're not Asian so you don't know math..." haaaaahhahahaha
this is by far the best fx30 review I've seen so far. I have been debating between a brand new Fx30 vs used a7iv. and this video provided a lot of great insight.

I absolutely agree the FX 30 wasn’t designed to compete with those cameras. It was to provide a budget entry for someone who wanted a good video based camera or wanted a B camera
Yes, right. I actually planning to upgrade from a6400 to fx30. And in this video Ive found a lot more motivation to do it. The thing about lighting a scene and the Neat video software are very usefull tips. Thank you!

Do you keep the whole wedding shot at the lowest Aperture number? In your case 1.4? I find I am missing focus or part of the subject out of focus a lot of the time.
Thanks for this video!! It really helps me to decide to go for this camera:) I shoot my first 2 weddings (only last one is on YT, the first one was GH5) on rented Sony A7SIII and I because A7SIII is soo much expensive and way over my budget, I think FX30 could be a camera for me to come into wedding (and not only wedding) videography. And Low light: which this video totally helps me to realize, it is not that bad as in many reviews some of the ppl say.
Hi, really need others opinion about this: I have a A7RIII (recieved it as a gift) and I use it to shoot wedding video. (I know it's a photo-centric cam but thats all i have now) What I notice is that in indoor and less than ideal situations, my footages tend to be grainy and I have to crank up the iso (about 2500 to 4000). Setting up lights in the area is not feasible as well. Should I go for Fx30 or save up more for the Fx3? Im wondering if the new apsc sensor would be better than older FF sensor in terms of lowlight. The price on the Sony FX30 is gonna go up because of you 😅 Dude you're dropped the 🎤 on this video Thanks for the honest info. I hope they still have those for $1700
Your glasses-free hat-free twin brother is annoying, you are very patient with him. But you both make perfect sense! Thank you for this video 👍🏻 I mainly do documentary work and am considering the FX30, I need smth light and powerful and video oriented. Also affordable. It would be my first move into the Sony system. (Other than my AX100 which is a camcorder and just for fun use). I’m currently a Canon dslr user, haven’t switched yet to Canon mirrorless as the RF glass is quite expensive. And I need a system I can invest in with confidence when it comes to 3rd party lenses. I’m very tempted with Fujifilm, a combo of XH2s and XS20, but Fujifilm being an apsc and medium format system only is holding me back tbh. That’s why the FX30 sounds like the reasonable choice. An entry to the Sony system that I highly respect due to my AX100. I’d still need to consider an affordable full frame Sony camera oriented more to photography. Maybe an A7IV…
Love the footage! I guess since the Arri Alexa is Super35 it seems that FF is not always needed!!! Did you use the Cine EI mode or just change the ISO as needed when filming? (Is the Cine EI really that much better??) I assume S-Log3 10 bit 4:2:2 throughout...

Really nice video, and great explication!🙏... But, I think people's confusion is exacly about the Sony's Fx30 Marketing. So, Sony has been marketing this camera as a Fx Cinema Line (The "best Cinema Line in Lowlight regards" on the game right now), but the Sony Fx30 really don't have the spirit of a Fx Cinema line Camera, like all those great things we all like about the Sony's Fx Cinema Camera, like: "Best Lowligith Performence on the market" (When clearly the Fujifilm Xh-2s is way better in lowlight than the Sony Fx30, even cameras as: Panasonic Gh5s, Fujifilm XT3, XT4, Sony a6500/a6600, all those cameras seams to have better lowlight performance than Sony Fx30. Hmmm!.... People maybe expect, as a Sony's Fx Cinema Line and anAps-c, we could expect to have "Half the Performance and greatness, (a seconde base ISO 6400, maybe)" and with a 1.7x crop (fullframe therm) in 4k 120p and not a 2.3x crop, from his big brother Sony Fx3 with seconde base ISO 12800 and a 1.1x crop 4k 120p even with his biggest fullframe sensor, but it isn't the case. We don't even have "a 1/4 of the performance and greatness", just a seconde base ISO 2500, just as the older tiny m43 sensor the Panasonic Gh5s (2018 release) and this camera is way better in lowlight than the Sony fx30. Another side, the Canon Eos R7, is not from a lowlight beats Line Up as Fx30, seams to work better in lowlight, even the Panasonic Gh6 (a tiny M43 sensor) as nearly the same performance as the Sony Fx30 if is not "Better". That's really a big confusion!. I just hope that Sony did it because they have some good reasons for that for the future, to save the place of the future Sony a6700/a7000 on the market, the one that will have the best lowlight performance of the Aps-C line as the flagship in this category. But with less crop on 4k 120p, or without any crop, the Sony a6700/a700. (Sorry, my english is not good enough to explain better my point)
Great video, and great information provided! I do have a question, I just starting off and using sony a7III shooting hybrid for my company. I am thinking should I keep my a7III and get the FX30 or should I just upgrade to a7IV and be the hybrid shooter?

This is proper! Fx30 seems to be a good fit. How do you feel about the camera now that’s you’ve had it for months? Do you think it will ever be Netflix approved? Thank you
He got a lot of views trying to tell everyone that both base iso were supposed to be identical. You were very polite when you pointed out that nobody ever claimed they were.
