this is one of the best explanations I've seen of clicker training. My cat is around 7 months and she REAAAAALLY wants to go outside, and I REEEAALLY wanna let her, but only if I can leash train her. So I'm trying to get her started with general clicker training to work up to going for a walk on a leash.

This sounds like a good idea but cats waste contains a nasty parasite called Toxoplasma which can cause some serious health problems to humans. This parasite is why you should avoid touching cat poop, never mind flushing it down the toilet and exposing the whole water system to the parasite. Some water systems may not be properly equipped to kill Toxoplasma. The prevalence of the parasite in the water system may have an impact on more than just humans, too. It has been found in river otters and may infect any other warm-blooded animal as well. Ultimately, anything we can do to reduce this parasite can help the overall environment. Just some food for thought.
OK, 3 things here from experience with a foil pan in the toilet. 1) Cats HATE the sound of aluminum foil. 2) they make a HUGE mess and worst of all 3) they get spooked because the pan will fall in from a heavy cat being in there. You don't think they just sit on the toilet seat do you...no, they get in the pan.
So I have to say my 3 cats have been training for about a week now. Just got rid of their litter box a day ago and after a few accidents my one most stubborn kitty went in the toilet. I am at the stage where there is still litter in roasting. Probably 2 days into this. I am soooo proud of him. Now the other 2 just have to get on board. Thank-you so much for this training video and it really does work.
Wonderful video! Thanks! . I trained my 2 about 10 years ago, Armani still does it perfectly. After a couple of years, Cinnamon made alternate decisions. No more poop in the toilet. On the floor in front is where he's decided it belongs. The toilet seat is still where he goes to urinate, but only sometimes will he squat. Other times he stands, aiming at the wall or open lid. If I catch him, he will tolerate my gently pushing him into squat position with lots of praise. But I'm not always there. I keep a folded paper towel below the open lid. Spray cleaner and Simple Solution in a spray bottle are always handy. It takes a couple of minutes a day to clean up. Your video has reminded me about the value of rewards. Maybe I will resume rewarding with food each time I catch him squatting or help him to do it. I'm not at all sure I will be able to teach him to poop there again. No matter. The minute or two it takes to clean up is still easier than a litter box. Fortunately, he uses a bathroom I seldom use. A couple of inconveniences: ~Armani, smarty pants that he is, watched me using toilet paper as humans do. However, he identified it as the substance with which to cover his deposits. After a couple of toilets full of unrolled paper, the roll lives in a canister. ~They sleep with me. I have to be careful not to wake Armani when I get up in the night to pee. If I wake him, likely, he will beat me to the toilet while I wait, shivering, with my legs crossed!
I never trained my cat. I heard someone peeing in the bathroom and I checked and it was my cat. Pebbles learned all on her own. And she was an outdoor cat.
i have been trying to toilet train my cat with the training kit u find online but i feel like its too narrow or not to deep, i was keep rhinking what i canuse as alternative and you just gave it to me, also this is the most clear training for me to train my cat, thank you! i hope this time me and my cat will go to the finish line ❤️❤️❤️

I had a feril cat I took in 7 years ago that taught himself to pee in the toilette. Absolutely amazing. He passed away two weeks ago I had him seven years. I miss him he was so special. I decided to make a video about how awesome he was as a way to cope with his sudden loss.😭.Check it out if u like cats he was a sweet boy and I wanted to pay tribute to him for the world to see
Very well explained. He is 12 weeks. I am going to wait until he is 6 months as you suggested but I Think I can start training for those tricks very slowly.
Why hadn't I ever seen this video??!! OMG....LIFE CHANGING! I have a multiple cat household. I'm definitely starting this next weekend. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Thank you for this!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'm training my 2 cats now after watching your video. My cats are 13 and 16 yrs old. There were some accidents but I didn't give up on them. My 16 yrs old one is doing so much better than a 13 yrs old one. I used a big plastic bowl instead of an aluminum foil pan cause I can't get it to fit in. I also trained them in another bathroom without a toilet seat cause a lot of times my sons forget to put the seat down. Thank you for making this video. 💜

Hey Kelly! I feel like I hit a bit of a dead end with toilet training with Juju. After various setbacks, including protesting urinating on the toilet, he’s voluntarily doing #1 as planned. We did make a breakthrough for 2 days of him taking deuces on the toilet and I thought we made it, but the next day, I came home to him hiding a surprise behind the couch. And since then, he hasn’t voluntarily gone where guided. I finally picked up on about a 20 hour time cycle between dumps, so when I knew he was due, I took bathroom breaks with him, he’d protest, but caught on to that being his ticket out. So where I’m at there is shutting him in the bathroom, he gets the hint, takes care of business in short order, never on the floor, always in the target (and a treat after). So he’s proved capable but not convinced that’s the toilet is the way to go. But again, he got #1 on his own time today. Btw, one thing I tried was using mirroring, I used “his” toilet and that was a disaster because he acted like I “claimed” it or that he’s never even seen one and was going in the tub instead (when I shut him in bathroom). He is over that for now, but I’m concerned that when I have guests, that could alienate him from the toilet. Thanks for your video!
Cats are so smart. Growing up my sister was allergic to cats so I was never allowed to have a cat so of course when I moved out I immediately rescued a homeless cat that became my best most cuddly friend which of course in turn made me get three more cats eventually. And those three I got every other year as kittens. And it made me realize that people that don't think cats can be just as cuddly and trainable is dogs just aren't doing it right. My two oldest cats have since passed on the first from old age and the second oldest cat unfortunately had a buildup in his urinary tract that happened during a week-long camping trip and when we got back home within 10 minutes I knew he was sick and I got them in the car and he died on the way to the vet. But my point is the three of my cats I got as kittens and I made sure that I was around them twenty-four hours a day for the first 6 months of their lives and I became their cat Mommy. And while they are perfectly fine doing as they please they prefer to cuddle with me and be next to me at all times cuddling. They have never scratched nor bitten. They all come when I call them. It really is very easyto teach your cat to pretty much act like what people think dogs are supposed to act like. And because most people don't, cats get a bad rap
Great training! I previously trained my cat to use the toilet and he did it once (pooped) and then he used the floor. I will retrain him using your method. Thanks!
Great video, thanks a lot My cat uses the bathroom, but one corner, we go in together and he obliges and lots of cleaning work later. But i need to train him use the loo. As you've clearly mentioned, it does need tonns of patience..! Thanks again
After 5 months I still haven't given up. But here's an update: 1) She responds better if I reward her when she does poop on the litter and ignore her when she poops on the floor. 2) I'm still not sure when I can make the hole bigger. 3) Somehow I have been trained by my cat to not to come home after 11pm otherwise she will poop on the floor.
@@simonbennatan8257 how this ended?? 😂 I'm on week 2 of training my cat and she poops on the floor next to the toilet almost every time, she will go and pee in the right place but the poop is always on the floor 😒
Excellent video! I have five cats. One is 18 and is the only one that goes outside. One was found on craigslist and the other three were feral. Despite living in a small space, there’s never been a catfight or even snarling. I am going to start them as toilet training (I have a bad back and changing litter is a killer!) and progress to tricks. I have taught them that when I say “touchdown “they run into the bedroom and I close the door so they don’t get out when I leave. Very successful! So sad your video cut out early!
I so want to turn the tables on my furry litte bugga, she steadily nudges my water bottle off the nightstand during the night so I get up and feed her. I'm very well trained.
@@sarah.mp4 the pan is definitely more economical my bathroom and bedroom are detached, and my cat definitely preferred the litter box- if i left my bedroom open he would go on my bed because it had my smell and he was still trying to get used to the toilet. he was able to adjust with all the transitions pretty quickly but at the very end i just cut out the bottom while i left the edges just so he knew it was familiar and he knew he could go in there. i got flushable kitty litter that i used in the beginning and i would recommend that for the first few weeks for sure. i tried to get rid of the litter as fast as i could bc he made a mess with it i would say definitely invest in a big pack of disinfectant wipes and toilet cleaners. i have to clean my toilet and light candles in there frequently to make sure there’s no odor. also their instinct is to hide their urine and feces so my cat gets his paws all gross from the toilet water (if he has diarrhea it’s not fun lol) so i would say get some pet paw wipes to clean their paws off with too!
@@sarah.mp4 also my cat didn’t use the toilet until it was his only option so leaving the litter box in there didn’t really work i recommend getting a hip and joint supplement for ur kitty too bc constantly jumping on the toilet can affect their bones as they begin to age
Ok, I'm definitely getting a cat! Finally my husband HAS a GOOD reason to put the seat down! if I can just train him to use the toilet instead of the floor....and I'll need to train the cat, too!
My cats go outside. Get cats. A lot of cats I have 3... One goes in the bathroom floor drain, in Asia we have different bathroom.. 2 go outside, Cats can be, considerate Well mannered, they do know their names And will follow a kind human on walks I walk doggo, 2 of 3 cats.. And hubby sometimes Cats don't tell police about drugs
Um why would ANYONE leave their toilet lid up? Tell your husband to CLOSE THE TOILET lid. You do this in case of earthquake. I lived thru a major one: everything from the shelves behind or sink counter ended up inside! 7.6

@@Miscellaneos101 we have a leech field septic system on acreage, so it wouldn't be going into the public sewer system. The point is moot though since she didn't like the defecating in the toilet part, so we're back to litter anyhow. Although, I still don't like the idea of bagging up a pile of poop to send to the land fill, yet here we are.
Great video! I can not find an oval pan small enough for my toilet. Its a standard toilet and Walmart had only one oval pan (13.13 in W x 3.13 in D x 16 in L - what size should I be looking for and where can I purchase it
I toilet trained my first cat. However now that I know that toxoplasma gondii is not commonly treated in your average wastewater plants. This virus can make its way into bodies of water and infect wetland creatures. Also if your cat is sick, not being able to regularly check their excretions becomes an issue. It’s cute to make your day use the toilet like a person, but there can be an environmental cost to it. And if your fur baby is sick it will be harder to retrieve uncontaminated stool samples for your vet.
My cat saw me going into the bathroom for a pee and taught himself to go in the bath. It might not sound very nice but it is easily washed away and cleaned. I would rather he did that than many alternatives !
@@MasterMichelleFL If you leave the lid down, that's the same to him as his cat box no longer being accessible. He will choose the space nearest...the floor is tub.
@@singingstars5006 yes. The lid only gets left down if company comes and forgets, but only for a short time. I don't care if he goes in the tub, easy to scrub with bleach and wash away germs.
I keep the box in the tub. They love it. It's a private bathroom. Like you said it's easy to clean. Better there than anywhere else. Now I'm considering toilet training.

Some of us know exactly who and what you are.We see you...lol. My cats have choices... they ACTUALLY choose the toilet. All I did was show them the possibilities. Thanks for trolling though, it's entertaining to me! 🤣🤣🤣 Be gone, Satan, you have no power with me.
((Not for "D" the troll.)) (I said I HATE litter boxes, I didn't say I refuse to have any. I actually keep a box accessible (always accessible on our huge screened in patio) in case the toilet lid(s) gets left down, or they need to go and the bathroom is in use. It's happened once or twice, luckily I had thought ahead and planned for issues that were possible... just in case. They will use the box if they can't use the toilet, but if they preferred the box, they wouldn't check if the bathroom is available first. In fact, they'd rather go in the bathtub if the lid gets left down by company forgetting, and they can get in the bathroom. They only go out on the big patio to play, sleep, eat or climb, but are out there via a cat door all the time. I think they must like the cleanliness of using the toilet.(?) They turn around and smell the water, don't have to cover anything, jump down and walk away satisfied. They can also go outside in a big protected yard with lots of safe places to hide, open spaces, sandy spots, etc. They lay outside and watch birds...lol. Then poop in the toilet. On there own. ) (This isn't for the troll who replied above, it's for anyone his divisive behavior might mislead. Some people will try to stop anything positive, just to be evil.💚 ) 💚💚💚
@D. 🤣🤣🤣 Yeah, because my cats NEVER jump higher than a toilet bowl. Folks who know me, wish to come back as one of my fur babies...LMAO Your crazy opinion means nothing to me. You are insane. 🤣
I got my very first cat when she was a kitten. No-one showed her how to use the toilet. One day I heard the "clink clink" of water dripping into the toilet and saw her peeing in the toilet. Then she jumped up on top of the tank, reached down, and flushed it. No-one showed her how to do this. It was just her and I living there. She was 8 weeks old when I got her and about 4 months when I first caught her doing it. She was either some kind of prodigy or an alien.
Very cool I will have to try some of this. One thing our son in law trained him to do was fist bump, if you hold your fist out Tyrael will head hoop it, he is so cute looking when he does it. One thing he just started doing is if I am sitting he will come over reach his paw up to cup my cheek then pull my head down to nose kiss me. He is a very smart cat :).
Very intelligent and helpful. Very glad I stumbled on this video and have subscribed to your channel. Thanks for one heck of a good deed. Best wishes. Cheers.

Hi Kelly, thanks for the video! Hey, I have a kitty with your cat's same markings! Her name is Tuxedo or Tuxxy for short. ( I'm still wondering who the papa from Mar Vista is.) I rescued Mama Babes from a colony of 20 during the pandemic. And I am now a proud Nonna of four six month old kitties, and I'm keeping them all. I want to train all five of them! I have a round toilet and had a hard time finding a pan, but scrunched up one ends edge and wire tied it securely. I also had a new toilet seat with a slick seat causing a slip. I took fine sandpaper and roughed up the seat enough to prevent slipping.
Great instructional video. I have two cats and one wants to pee in any open container on the floor so I think that she will be easy to train. The other one doesn't do this and is quite heavy but I am going to try to train both of them ... wish me luck!
This is exciting to me. I have severe daily pain and lifting the litter is very hard. Plus, Ive been wanting to do this for awhile. Thankful she explained about the turkey cooking aluminum pan is strong enough, cuz that was the first thing i thought about when she out it in the toilet.
We have been using Kitty Loo with our 2 kittens for about 2 months... Overnight was 100% not working. This method PLUS Kitty Loo on top was an instant success... so happy not to be cleaning messes this morning!
Hi. New to your channel. Loving it. I ABSOLUTELY am motivated to train my cats to the toilet! HATE scooping! I have two 6 month old boy kitties. We adopted ❤ them about a month ago. They're settling in nicely. We can't stand the box odor and we are constantly scooping. 🤢 Do you think it's possible the shy one of the 2 would mimic the others potty training behavior? I know in this video you say to train them separately, but if I get rid of the litter box for training of the one, I'm wondering where the other is supposed to be using the bathroom? 🤔 Thanks 😊

This has! to! be! every cat owners DREAM COME TRUE! ......I have tried it many times over the past 14 years and have consistently been UNSUCCESSFUL:-(......Ideally? If there could be a "toilet training school" somewhere in my state of California? (where I currently live), I would enroll them immediately!
I had a cat who pretty much taught himself to use the toilet. Walked in on him using the toilet once and it was such a bizarre thing to witness. I still to this day have no idea how he taught himself. Of course he'd still use the cat box now and then but he mostly used the toilet to do his business. Cats are very smart little critters
Well in this training you throw out litter box because if u keep it then not sure how it will work. The whole point I think is getting rid of the box. I can't wait. I am on day 2 but I have 3 cats.
Excellent time and effort on your vid. Great execution and this is a program that always works. Some cats are territorial taking to only one family member but with a great treat, they can have a favorite owner and a favorite trainer. Yes is super exciting seeing your kitty on the seat--DONT run in there - Use a Blink cam or something like that so you can zone in with giving your Cat respected privacy. Treats are awesome but you can also play with your kitty once he/she is completed as a reward. This program is NOT ideal for fast results , it takes time , patience , understanding and most of all trust. Trust that you will train and trust that your kitty will do the right thing. Never hover , allow one on one time in intervals just like Kelly stated. Yes , there will be an 80% chance if not higher your cat will not get it right. Its ok , constant re-assurance , placing a treat on the seat without your kitty seeing ( I have more than one bathroom) so when he/she goes it she's back to happy happy OMG treat ! your cat might not like balancing on the seat , we picked up a potty training seat to add to our existing seat and left it on for 2 weeks. We discovered our no -slam seat divits inward opposed being even around the seat (human comfort ? ) we eventually got a new flat seat and it solved the issue with one of our Savannah cats. By monitoring , listening , encouraging , you will be amazed on what your cat can tell you . Is toilet training natural - No , its not even natural for a human - but any beating heart can learn and adapt given the tools and support needed.

Where did you find a broasting pan that fits the toilet?
A couple of inconveniences:
~Armani, smarty pants that he is, watched me using toilet paper as humans do.
Pebbles is a little tiny genius and I think I love her.

Someone else from it second homes trained the cat

I have three new kittens and I was looking to see how to train them. Definitely, will try this. This is the best I have found

Thanks!
Maybe your cat is adverse to using a toilet - she told you already. What is the point anyways?
Great video, thanks a lot
My cat uses the bathroom, but one corner, we go in together and he obliges and lots of cleaning work later.
But i need to train him use the loo.
As you've clearly mentioned, it does need tonns of patience..!
Thanks again
I'm trying this method and once the hole starts getting larger, my cat says "OK, I'll poop on the floor"
Same here😂
After 5 months I still haven't given up. But here's an update:
1) She responds better if I reward her when she does poop on the litter and ignore her when she poops on the floor.
So sad your video cut out early!

my bathroom and bedroom are detached, and my cat definitely preferred the litter box- if i left my bedroom open he would go on my bed because it had my smell and he was still trying to get used to the toilet. he was able to adjust with all the transitions pretty quickly but at the very end i just cut out the bottom while i left the edges just so he knew it was familiar and he knew he could go in there.
i got flushable kitty litter that i used in the beginning and i would recommend that for the first few weeks for sure. i tried to get rid of the litter as fast as i could bc he made a mess with it
i would say definitely invest in a big pack of disinfectant wipes and toilet cleaners. i have to clean my toilet and light candles in there frequently to make sure there’s no odor.
also their instinct is to hide their urine and feces so my cat gets his paws all gross from the toilet water (if he has diarrhea it’s not fun lol) so i would say get some pet paw wipes to clean their paws off with too!
@@sarah.mp4 also my cat didn’t use the toilet until it was his only option so leaving the litter box in there didn’t really work
i recommend getting a hip and joint supplement for ur kitty too bc constantly jumping on the toilet can affect their bones as they begin to age

Great video! I can not find an oval pan small enough for my toilet. Its a standard toilet and Walmart had only one oval pan (13.13 in W x 3.13 in D x 16 in L - what size should I be looking for and where can I purchase it
The plus side of using the roasting pan: the cat won't attack your turkey dinner. "ew! I'm not eating that! I go wee in that thing!"
Thank you for ur effort & time to do this! I’m looking forward to training my next 🐈 cat I adopt! U are so good!

(I said I HATE litter boxes, I didn't say I refuse to have any. On there own. )

Amazing video. Thank you so much. Question:Should I treat the cat forever for using the toilet?
I got my very first cat when she was a kitten. No-one showed her how to use the toilet. One day I heard the "clink clink" of water dripping into the toilet and saw her peeing in the toilet. Then she jumped up on top of the tank, reached down, and flushed it. No-one showed her how to do this. It was just her and I living there. She was 8 weeks old when I got her and about 4 months when I first caught her doing it. She was either some kind of prodigy or an alien.
Beautiful presentation - nice and clear, interesting and so professional. Thank you Kelly!
Very cool I will have to try some of this. One thing our son in law trained him to do was fist bump, if you hold your fist out Tyrael will head hoop it, he is so cute looking when he does it.
Thank you for showing us how easy it can be;) my kitty "gives paw"
