- John Milton (9 December 1608 - 8 November 1674) was an English poet and intellectual who served as a civil servant for the Commonwealth of England under its Council of State and later under Oliver Cromwell. He wrote at a time of religious flux and political upheaval, and is best known for his epic poem Paradise Lost (1667). Written in blank verse, Paradise Lost is widely considered to be one of the greatest works of literature ever written.

Thank you! What a lovely sober, grounded story, a wonderful antidote to the madness that embraces our country (GB) at the moment (summer 2022). There is nothing like Milton's language. I love the way the film included so much of it.
100% agree 2023 is no better, in fact worse!
Thanks for this series. I find myself intrigued by the lives of writers I never would have imagined.
You're welcome :)
JOHN Miton, Paradise Lost. WOULD ONE CHOOSE Shakespeare or Milton? ARGUMENTS ON BOTH SIDES❤️
No need to put one of these masters above other . . . both Milton & Shakespeare are masters in there own right!
No one touches Shakespeare. He wasn’t from here (earth). ’But, but…’ - No!
Thanks Beautiful and imaginative presentation.Look forward to many more.
You're welcome :)
thank you for a solid introduction. It's been awesome to see that history is so readily available in video form.
Thank you❤ it's interesting👍🏻
Shakespeare and Milton are the two great names in English Lit. M.A,.in Thamizh Nadu
... and Edmund Spenser.
Thank you for this lovingly designed overview!
I am a John Milton scholar. I am a historian. I wrote an essay on "Samson Agonistes", "Paradise Lost", "The Tenure of Kings and Magistrates". I did a very good read in graduate school with Martin Dezelzainis and company. Quentin Skinner was a powerful scholar. It is too difficult for kids. They don't teach all this to kids. It takes a mastery of political science and history to read John Milton's English Republicanism. You should read Niall Ferguson and Simon Schama first. Then read Milton. You'll have to pick up what Quintin Skinner and Martin Dzelzainis are talking about in "Milton And Republicanism" Armitage, Himy and Skinner.
Thank you so much For this incredible video!!! i'm student of English Literatur,Kindly Add more Video on English writers..Love From India 🙏🙏🙏
"Communication" by all means possible in their time. They did their best to thank Milton for representing the common man through art, music, poetry, dance, fabrics, fire, rebuilding, writing, stairing at the windows, bad lighting, day after day, surviving sickness and bad government; there's a little something of celebration (of Milton's work) for everyone, yep, it's all in there somewhere. 😅
Thanks for the details on Milton's life!
Of course!

Rather matter of fact. I was hoping it would’ve spent a bit of time on Miltons actual work
Masterpiece about my favourite poet 😊
9:00 is like something from Lucky Jim.
Professor Welch’s madrigal-evening immediately came to mind.

What'd you say? Can't hear over the fabulous music😳
Nice to be nice
There were 3 paradises lost.
The 1st one was when the angels rebelled and fell;
The 2nd one was when Adam and Eve were driven out;
The 3rd one was when Jesus doubted: Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me.
Thank you. I learned something very important.
He's also an Outlaw and a Gunslinger, but was shot down by Edgar Ross and Freinds.
