Hey Matt thank you so much for posting this. My dad had an original Polaroid 100. He passed in 79 I don't know what happened to the camera. But I was driving along the road here in Florida, saw a garage sale. Stopped and they had a Polaroid 104 and mint condition. I asked the guy how much you wanted for it he said three bucks I said I'll give you two and he said give me the two bucks and it's yours. now with your wonderful video I'll be able to buy some film and go out and shoot it, oh and the battery. Thanks John for doing the video on this.
My grandfather had one of these, he bought it in 1967. For about a year he was snap happy. Pictures of grandma, my aunt, uncle, my mom, my cousins, all of us, parties, Christmas, trips they took, you name it. He loved taking pictures with that camera. My aunt and uncle bought their Polaroid about a year later and we got a Polaroid in 1971, a Square Shooter. Great cameras that were good for family gatherings, but for really good pictures, Kodak was a better choice, or a 35 mm SLR was the ultimate.
You'll need a #532 3v battery. Make sure that your battery leads are not corroded. If you're handy with a solder iron, you can convert the battery to (2) AAA batteries. Battery holder sold at Radio Shack.
I have been thinking about this camera for 20 years. In the movie Crazy / Beautiful (2001) with Kirsten Dunst, her character is shown using this camera and then directly transferring the photo on to a thicker kind of paper. The minute markers are 1:22:56 - 1:23:26, if you want to check it out. I’m wondering if this is actually a method that can be used to transfer these photos. I have seen emulsion lifts done but they take a lot of time and patience. Thanks for your time!
Enigma758 there is a control arm that says push to retract on the top part of the camera if you are still wonderingdon't add to much pressure or you might break the arm
So I found this camera on the attic, and it seems to be pretty neat preserved, anyway; I would like to experiment a little bit, but in the cheap way, I got some photographic paper, and I was wondering if I could cut a piece and use it as the film, then develop it in the dark room. Any thoughts?
@buggiala Hi. The 104 is different than the 420. The 104 uses Index Finder focus (see video above). The 420 ia a rangefinder focusing. (See our 420 video). Both are great and shoot awesome film prints.
If your battery holder is corroded, you should clean it out, discard the old battery. Clean the battery leads using White Vinegar. Soak for 5 minutes and then clean with a soft cloth or brush. Best of luck!
@rikicarvu1 Press and hold down the shutter til it opens and closes. Look through the back of the camera (through the lens) as you do this. You should see the shutter open and close. See our other video - Polaroid Shutter Test
I know this video is older but I recently thrifted this camera and im trying to figure out if there is a different replacement i could use for film since I can't find the type used in the video
Sadly as of August 2020 there is no widely distributed replacement film for Polaroid 100 film (fp-110c)...BUT...there is always hope. savepackfilm.supersense.com
Hi, is the 430 just like the 104? I mean does the 430 also have an indexfinder? And do the fotos come out looking vintage like? Cause that is what I'm looking for?

I just bought one of these, there's a battery in it but I only get one click when testing it out. Is the battery dead, or is something wrong with the camera?
Thank you for this video! I had a job for a while in a recycling plant and this camera ended up in my hands! Never new it had a battery slot or a flash attachment at the top as mine is Missing it.
Michael Raso thanks! you wont believe it though, after writing this comment yesterday i went to extremes and said that i'll just buy flashbulbs. i bought a lot of 60 flashbulbs for 25 dollars. but i'll end up buying the electronic flash one day
Vlado Blazevic wow Croatia! I love geography but I do not know much about your country. I will learn now. Have you ever traveled to the United States before?

you may need to rewire the camera. if the original fixtures are too corroded, they won't work. make sure to rewire it to use 3 volt batteries (or 2 AA batteries). good luck.

So how to you close (retract) the camera one's it's extended? Extending it is easy, retracting it seems hard.
