I am so glad that they released this. I know I cant be the only one that was tired of waiting 10-15m for some footage to transfer to my device. Wish it was a little less, but time is money
I have been wanting this for too long… since I got it Now I can just load it all on a memory card and not gum up my phone that is already 1-2 full of photos and videos I so very much enjoy my go 3….. I really wished it had a Timelapse recording just like the iPhone and not just photos at set intervals… I like recording my flight take off and landings…. Hopefully the 32gig I have will transfer fastest with this new offloading device I so wished I had not messed up when i ordered I did want the 128 but somehow it switched to the 32 without notice. Perhaps I’ll get the go 4 when it comes out
Thx so much for this - it’s one of those accessories that you think works in a certain way but as you say, it’s actually more flexible than you first think. Thank you so much for explaining all the possibilities for using this! 😊
Yeah but why dont they just support connecting their devices with USB-c direvtly, sure everyone doesnt have an iPhone 15 pro but the goal should be not to have all these Camera specific readers but just Connect Camera via USB-c straight to iPhone or iPad.
Shawn, this is a great video highlighting what the reader can do. So what I'm about to say has nothing to do with the video but with the reader itself. This reader seems like a $45 solution to a problem that Insta360 doesn't want to solve with the Action Pod which is to make it USB 3.1 and give it the ability to plug directly into a tablet/phone with a cable. Considering the Go line of cameras has 128GB of storage, it can take as much as 2 hours to transfer via USB (2.0). It would be great if they fixed this on the Action Pod as it has become an Achilles heel.
I just got the Insta360 3S from the AdobeMAX trade show. I am loving it but the storage piece is a little annoying. They threw the quick reader in for free with my purchase but I had no idea how to use it! Thank you so much for this video.
I just got mine. Thanks for this very helpful video. It is very easy to use. I liked the transfer option connecting it to the pod so I can see the transfer progress. Just make sure your device is fully charged. Transfer time is fast. This is a must have accessory
Unfortunately, yes, it has to be connected to power. But as demonstrated if you don’t have a power bank with you, you can just plug it into the side of the camera itself to get power.
Can you charge the Go 3 from an iPad/iPhone if you plug the camera and quick reader into it, but leave it turned off? This would be a great way to top up the camera if you had a full phone battery.
Unfortunately, it will not. Right away it’ll just prompt you to launch the Insta360 app even if you ignore it no power is fed into the unit. Would be a great feature as the iPad can charge devices.
That was a very good question so I tested that theory out, and indeed it does work. You can basically record indefinitely until the memory is filled with just the camera module when connected to a power bank. And of course, you could plug the action into power as well and use it and that configuration. A great question.
Shawn, really helpful walk thru the Quick Reader. The printing on the Insta360 Instruction booklet is way too small. I agree, would be nice for Quick Reader to connect to Ipad/Iphone Files app and show as a drive.
I really like it as well. I’ve tried several, but this has been my favorite. I bought it on the Canadian Amazon, but I’m assuming it’ll be on the American one as well. Search for this term. HAYONLIY Compatible for Apple Watch Ultra/Ultra 2 49mm Bands for Men, Silicone Rubber Band for Series
I didn't realize the quick reader was so useful, is it included in the box? Or can you buy it separately, its a must have accessory. Great video, and thanks for sharing Shawn.
I have the Insta 360 Go 3, many times I have problems getting the pod to charge/connect to my camera. Unless there is a workaround that I haven’t seen, this reader seems like a workable solution to charge my camera
Questions : With the cam plugged into a powerbank, it MOVES the file from the cam to the card. And with the reader plugged into the pod, does it also MOVE or COPY the contents automatically or it waits for user’s choice? Second question, what is the folder structure after each transfer? Lastly, if you use the same SD card between a Go3 and Go3S, what sort of folder structure will be in the SD card? Will the user be able to differentiate between which are from the Go3 and Go3S?
Note: If you connect the Quick Reader to a Windows device, Windows will see both the SD card and the Go 3S as drives giving you full access to the files on both. Macs should be able to do this if you install an MTP driver kit because macOS does not support this out of the box. Most Android devices should be able to read them as well. Samsung tablets and phones work if you use the My Files app. So really, it's just the iPad that's the issue here.
So just a question regarding the end of the video. Do you mean the only way for me to clear the memory card is by plugging it into one of those adaptors to a computer? cant i just transfer the files by plugging in the quick reader into the computer?
Yes, when connected by USB to a regular computer all the files are fully accessible. And you could format the drive as it becomes just a regular card reader drive. However, just not when connected to an iPad.
When the Quick Reader imports the Inst360 Go3/Go3s clips and does it sort them on to your iPad's insta360 app according to when (date/time) they were recorded or is it sorted according to the date/time they are imported? I like to edit my vacation videos chronologically so i am wondering if i record Insta360 X4 footage and import them while storing several days worth onto the Go3 reader, will those Go3 clips from the reader get placed by the day they were shot and next to different X4 footage recorded at the same time..... or will all the days of Go3 clips on the reader got into the iPad as if they were all recorded on the same day? Hope this question makes sense.
Hello, can I buy just the GO 3S (standalone) and out of the box get it to work and connect to the insta360 app? Or do I need both the camera and action pod? Can I access the settings for the camera?
Do know know if it is possible to use two GO3s with the reader to dump files to same SD card ? I am assuming it should work but not sure how it internally handles file names and if there are the same, when what does it do?
Good question yes in theory it’ll work but as for similar file names, I’m not quite sure. I only have one to test with maybe email Insta360 support to see what they say
WIth the quick reader, would you say its faster than the transfer speed via USB c cable (I get around 35mb/s). I find myself sitting at the computer way too long transferring footage from the go 3. Is this a viable option in the mindset that I have where I want the transfer speed to be faster when offloading footage? Thanks!
I don’t know if I would say it’s much faster. It’s mainly for the convenience part when you’re out in the field and you need to back up the footage from the internal memory.
Have you tried the with reader with the other insta369 devices and see if it can be used as a backup 'drive' via the usb plug ie. The X4 or Ace Pro? Because that would be a game changer if you could transfer the files the same way as the GO with those devices.
@@AirPhotography had I have the quick reader for the ace pro but you have to remove the battery door to use it, I like that this one is basically a dockable usb key
One problem I've noticed is that the files lose their timestamps when transferred with the Quick Reader. The correct date still shows up in Insta360 studio, but the file timestamps on your operating system get changed to the time of transfer, which is really annoying.
@@AirPhotography thank you! I am concerned that a corruption or a potential issue on an sd card could cause file corruption etc. Having the option to keep the files could make it more redundant as a back up.
@@AirPhotography It's actually a great idea, but without being able to switch off automatic deletion, it's relatively useless. Scenario 1: The storage space on the camera is sufficient, but I would like to quickly save my material on an SD card as a backup copy for important shoots. Scenario 2: I'm on the road and the internal memory is not enough. I want to be able to save the material on two different SD cards before I delete it from the camera. Otherwise, in my opinion, it makes more sense to connect the action pod to the cell phone and back up the material from there to an SD cards or external SSDs - maybe even back up directly from the camera to the SD cards / SSDs via a USB hub. Should be feasible for cell phones with a fast USB-C interface.
Does anyone know how much you can transfer to the insta app? Is it unlimited so I can delete the footage from the camera and just have it on the app to save space?
I could actually see myself buying a non s version standalone to go with my freshly purchased go 3s. Maybe I can get it from someone who upgraded. The go 3s has nice 4k quality and higher bitrate, but the non s version has higher fov which allows it to simulate a square sensor better, meaning free frame video works better. It is also just able to take wider shots all together, so having both is interesting to me.
